64-year-old veteran skateboarder Judi Oyama pushes the limits, defies expectations

Judi Oyama, 64, has been skateboarding since she was 13 years old. In her 50-year professional career, she has traveled the world competing, and she isn't slowing down anytime soon. The veteran skateboarder, who is encouraging more women to pick up a board, is headed to the World Skate Games in Rome this fall.

I think any real skater who cares about the history of skateboarding knows who she is, and her importance to the sport. That being said I agree, she needs a bigger spotlight on her while she is still here and skating...as she totally deserves it.

Awesome! I won’t wish her luck because she doesn’t need it. It’s all about skill and continuing to improve your craft! I hope she crushes it in Rome! (I used to skateboard from the late 80s through the early 2000s. Falls took a toll on my body so I don’t skate as often as I used to but I still surf quite a bit. I’m also from Santa Cruz.)

Judi Oyama is a legend. I tried skateboarding once, for 1 second. Fell off backwards and cracked the back of my head on the sidewalk and lost all memory of what happened before.

Totally great to see this interview ! @judiOyama. Look at the list of girl skaters in the Olympics. Skaters like Sly Brown, Rayssa Leal ,Arisa Trew and many more. Most are even under the age of 15.
