Pleeeease everyone I'm writing this with love, because I've been there too recently and they were big mistakes, 1) stop operating under the assumption you'll get money that isn't in your bank account yet. 2) stop seeing your jobs as safe, no matter who you report to, how long you've been there, how important and irreplaceable you are to other people in your company. When the investors say costs need to be cut tomorrow, you WILL be let go!! Believe me! You could be working for the CEO and be doing 200% and everyone in the company knows your name and you did wonderful things, and still be laid off. Same with relationships I'm sorry to say: love your partner but put your financial wellbeing first, because things can go from perfection to disaster reeeeally fast and you want to be protected. ❤ I'm fighting to stick to these principles myself and not repeat past mistakes.

Thank you for this, especially the job part. It’s so very important that people put themselves first before these jobs because these jobs have screwed people over and ruined lives. People need to put themselves first more often and remember there’s no true security unless you work for yourself. Even then, you still need to work hard and build something that’ll last.

Agreed girl! Never put your life or your kids life in the hands of any job, person, group, organization, society, etc. Nothing is guaranteed so always make sure you are using your money INTENTIONALLY. Doesn’t mean you can’t have fun or do things but use it with intention, plan ahead, don’t spend what you don’t have, and save as much as you reasonably can. Also, help yourself before you try helping others.

@@rachelesmith3342 heavy on the intentional part. Being young and dumb has consequences and being a 21 year old living alone, I’ve definitely had to learn the hard way that emotional spending will kick you in the butt! I’m getting myself in order now and have learned my lesson and I’ll keep learning as long as I don’t have to struggle unnecessarily like I did these past few months!

daycare isn’t just about someone to watch the kids when you can’t. daycares aren’t just babysitters these days. they are treated like school, and kids get valuable developmental/educational benefit. the kids develop friendships and socialize. pulling kids out of daycare once they’ve been established there, can cause setbacks developmentally and socially. pulling them out would also mean losing their spot at the daycare, and then they’d need to go back on waiting lists for spots once she gets her job back.

This stresses my soul out. I’m 29 and at my max, I was about $15,000 in debt. I paid it all off (interest free) and became debt-free on Thanksgiving 2023. In 8 months, I’ve saved tens of thousands of dollars because I pay myself instead of paying debt. No kids, no pets, no erroneous spending, just saving, budgeting, and living within my means. I’m well on my way to having $65,000 saved. I couldn’t imagine being $65,000 in debt.

Young lady! You have a good head on your shoulders. Some of these folks living a social media life are planting mine fields and hoping not to step on one. Credit cards are being hyped, the interest rates are high, and everywhere you go, they will pitch how you get money back and percentages off. All the while knowing they've just enhanced their bottom line. As an old head, add to your strategy understand what it means for your retirement years. Get into a (free) retirement course NOW. There are strategies that the government doesn't want you to know about taxes in retirement. Roths and 401K's can be beneficial, only if you plan early. Start or gather a sista group for support (finance, emotional support). Wishing you continued luck in the future.

She gave me my annual review, could not stop singing my praise ( this is normal for reviews as my boss was a very sweet encouraging person) my coworker and I meet up after work and compared notes on our reviews. She had a similar experience. We get to work Monday. Absolutely normal day... and as we are closing up for the day my boss comes in and says " we decided to close the store. Your last day is Thursday " we were absolutely shook. It definitely taught me .... your boss is not your friend. They will cut you at a moments notice.

my parents condemn me & my sister for not being in better financial situations by now, but even with ignoring how they've repeatedly sabotaged us, the world is completely different now & their circumstances were also not the standards they expect from us. my mom was groomed as a minor by someone 20 years older than her, had 5 kids, lived in debt horribly until meeting my stepdad. my stepdad ditched highschool with no diploma or GED, worked at radioshack for a bit & then happened to meet some guywho needed a techy guy for his job. now he makes 3 figures a year, has a house & is a landlord for two more, he erased my mom's debt when they got married, too. they have never extended their wealth to us, even in emergencies like dental care, or help with vehicles so we can get to work & not keep pouring thousands into junkers cuz we can never afford lumpsums to buy a decent enough car that only needs minimal maintenance repairs. they have delusional expectations that they didn't even live by, out of touch of reality but condemn us none the less. no idea what to do to make them see it. anyone can be a judgemental hateful person.

That’s kind of what my sister is doing because she thinks she’s better than everything but she’s a single mom like pretty much a single mom with no job.the father is a deadbeat so he doesn’t help with anything. Like you can’t be picky about being a physics tutor no girl you need to like work at McDonald’s so you can get money for your baby to have food in their stomach.

So my parents (I said my dad bc my mom is a SAHM so he’s the one earning) gave him over 5k to save the house. That Christmas about 4 months later they took their girls on vacation to another state and went to the American girl doll store and spent over $500 on each of them there then bought both of them MacBooks. My mom was livid and they’ve barely spoken since. I assume they did that nonsense on credit cards but my mom was furious he needed money from her to not lose the house then continued to be irresponsible.

If you’re making 400k a year, you should easily be able to float yourself for 6 months. It’s recommended by most financial advisors to have money set aside for this purpose. These are my questions: 1) why are your kids in daycare, if you’re unemployed (or making $9 per hour which doesn’t cover the cost of childcare) 2) did she file for unemployment? 3) why not rent your car or do instacart etc to make money to pay your car payment, bring your kids along 4) you got a puppy? For what purpose? That’s irresponsible. We recently adopted a puppy and have spent upwards of 5k for health issues we didn’t anticipate. 5) Disney and vacations need to be CANCELED! @@TheBlackAztec3hiring a babysitter is more expensive than daycare. You are paying the sitter per hour. Daycare is monthly or weekly flat rate. Also sometimes it depends on the area where you live where you have limited options( either you have a high cost daycare that’s worth it or one that is just overpriced) so if you find one that’s affordable and good, it’s hard to let go knowing there is a possibility of loosing that spot. I’m in 1k debt, but I was in grad school and working a part time job without any benefits. I got a concussion and that’s how the 1k debt happened. I’m 24 & I’m pretty careful with my money. I feel guilty about using the credit card at all. I’ll be paying it off this month as I got a full time position and I’m feeling better from the concussion. I feel health issues and debt is more forgivable.

How I treat bonuses is… I do not see it. It’s just regular money. I treat it like normal, like putting it towards bills and debt

That family was living in the edge for while before all this. No one takes all their savings for major expenses hoping to replace it from a bonus. Like there was zero rush to all of a sudden start spending money before the bonus and she was laid off.

You're 100% correct, the private sector is extremely volatile, there is no such thing as a "stable job". I've been in my career nearly 20 years, I just got a raise/promotion this year and still live with the fear of randomly losing my job. I live a wee bit beyond my means because I don't have kids or a husband to support, and sometimes I feel bad about my lil debt... until I see stuff like this ... 🤷‍♀

You should still feel bad about having your little bit of debt. Little debts can easily turn into big debts. Stop living above your means.

In the Netherlands credit cards are barely a thing either. Also we do have stable jobs (a.k.a. once you get fired you have a little bit of time to find something else, and otherwise we have a social safety net)

Same with my country as well. Debit cards only. If we can't afford it we save money and then buy or else we don't. For lower income families vacations are not a thing. Most people cook at home. Eating out is a special event. Credit card users do exist but they are very rare. And I have heard them go super broke later on. It's sad.

Dear Symone, thank you so much for the video! Literally the same happened to me this year: Got a liposuction and bought a new car (not super fancy) because I had a well paid job and could afford to pay off the debt easily. Well, guess what, I was laid off two months later. Luckily in Germany you at least have two months of regular payment even after you got laid off. I then found a new job, but definitely not as well paid as the other one. I’m looking for a better one but until then I can pay for my debt but I can’t do anything else besides that and food basically. I am now moving and my Amazon cart is stacked because I’m expecting to get a well paid job this month. I’ve never been good with money, as you a clearly see. So this was my reminder to put all of those things on the waiting list and only buy the necessities. Thanks ❤

I just can’t fathom being $65k in credit card debt. I get emotionally distraught if I spend more than half of my $2k credit card. I used to think I was cursed I could never get approved for debt when I was younger but it taught me not to rely on them or get more than I can pay off in a month, so I’m forever thankful. God did me a solid because this is about half my friend group now

I know people personally who live wayyy above their means but on social media look like they're living a life of luxury. Vacations to tropical destinations all over the world, a new BMW, beautiful clothing, expensive dog, big events but are in massive debt and have to pinch pennies in other areas in order to (somewhat) afford their lifestyle. Fortunately for them, some are sent stuff for free but it doesn't help when they often have expensive taste.
