Happy Memorial Day in the USA! We honor and remember our military personnel who have died in the service of their country. Forever grateful for their service.
In this video, Jet Ski Jim shows you how to replace the wires in a 650SX CDI ignitor for the Kawasaki 650 jet skis. He highlights the key differences with early X2's and 650's, which have staggered pins instead of grouped ones. Jim advises using 36-inch wires instead of 30-inch and ensuring the wire ends are cut square and secure them with JB Weld or Dev con. He also emphasizes the importance of using an OEM check valve for the best results. For the crimp on ends and boots, Jim recommends Taylor cable #44409 and #44796, respectively, which can be found on Amazon or Summit Racing. Additionally, Jim meets Austin, Cole, and Kenneth, a group from Los Angeles, who are enjoying their holiday at Havasu with their 550, 650, and 750 jet skis.

Just one thing to watch out for when using JB Weld on electronics is that some formulas have metal particles in suspension in the resin portion so could lead to arcing especially if you grind the passages for the wires too close to each other or too close to the board in the CDI. Found this out the hard way on battery holders on cameras when resetting the contacts as it caused a parasitic draw between the positive and negative that would cause the batteries to run down in a short time even when they were turned off. Best!

Always fun to watch these things getting done. 👍 But for someone like me, that barely got a summer, maybe getting a watertemp of 20˚c (68˚f).... Jetskis barely exits around here... 😂 Have a good one Jimmy! Best wishes from Sweden.

Hey Jim just recently found you and loving the info and knowledge you have!! I’m going to change my spark plugs on my wife’s 1992 x2 to b7es. Had a couple questions. She has some cavitation issues and I was curious if a pump stuffer or a scooped intake grate would help more. Also I have a 750 big pin in a gen 2 x2 and was curious what spark plugs you would recommend on that. Ski has a pipe, timing advance, milled head 15 thousands.
@jetskijim007
@jetskijim007 28 күн бұрын
Absolutely. I like to radius the entry into the intake tract opening as well. I helps a lot. As for the 750 engine, you have to run 8's in them. They will melt with 7's, and if you are running 650 ignition, you want the b8es. If you are running 750 ignition, you have to run the resistor, br8es.

Does the check valve let air into the fuel tank, or do you use it to let excess pressure out? I have mine letting air in and noticed when it got hot sitting on trailer some fuel leaked into the engine compartment.
@jetskijim007
@jetskijim007 Күн бұрын
Correct, on the oem check valves they will pop off and release pressure to keep it from building pressure and damaging the tank. The chinese ebay ones do not, and you need to crack loose the fuel cap when not riding, so as to not overpressure the tank...

how do you know which wire is for number one cylinder
@jetskijim007
@jetskijim007 28 күн бұрын
This system is a wasted spark system. Meaning both wires fire every time. So there is no difference in the two wires. They both originate from the same coil winding.
