It’s hard to get poignant,
Putting your composure to the test,
When you are faced with a dilemma,
Between what is true and what is best.

In the military and the government,
They face this impasse quite a lot,
Is it a lie to tell the truth,
Can it be both is, and is not?

So the quandary isn’t the answer,
No, it’s the questions that are asked,
And our adversaries know this too,
For “nothing” has had meaning in the past.

So it’s not a lie and it’s not the truth,
It’s something in the back,
It’s something you’re not allowed to think about,
And the classifiers call it black.

It’s called a black program,
More than a top Secret deal,
Where no information gets in or out,
Not even denying that it’s real.

Not even the folks who know about it,
May discuss it among themselves,
Fact is you’re not even allowed to say,
I want to talk of something else.

So once read into a black program,
Even if it’s a lie,
You are not permitted to react at all,
Nor give a reason why.
