I always have to keep reminding people online. It's not a Chrysler Imperial. It's just Imperial. Chrysler separated Imperial as its own separate division in 1955 to better compete with Cadillac and Lincoln. All Imperials made from 1955 to 1975 on the body will say Imperial by Chrysler. Not Chrysler Imperial. Also the letters on the vehicle VIN number is different on an imperial than it is on a Chrysler. Also Imperials were built at the Jefferson Assembly Plant which was torn down in 1981 to make way for a new assembly plant that would later build the Chrysler Minivans. When the Jefferson assembly plant was in operation Imperials were built made to order and not on a production schedule like Chrysler Dodge and Plymouth was. To call that car a Chrysler Imperial is like calling a Cadillac a Chevy Cadillac and a Lincoln a Ford Lincoln. Would you call an Eldorado a Chevy Cadillac Eldorado? Would you call a continental a Ford Lincoln Continental? From 1955 to 1975 it was just Imperial

I have a 1971 4-door Imperial LeBaron, and I agree with most of you, I don't consider it a separate make. I just think of it like a Maybach for Mercedes, the luxury division of a brand, not more not less.

At the beginning of this video, there is a common error: IMPERIALS, at least from 1955 through 1973, were D-bodies----NOT C-bodies . . . mainly because of a longer wheelbase.

The Imperial was a D body, it was about 5 inches longer than a C body from the firewall forward. Imperials were built in there own exclusive factory, not sure what year that ended. It was a separate brand from Chrysler, not model.
