'69 Newport was our family's first car, 4-dr, green over green. I found it in the local junkyard when I was in high school and nearly shed a tear.

I remember my mother had a '62 or '63 Impala for a while (this was early '70's). One weekend we went out for a Sunday drive and stopped at a local junkyard that was kind of in a field. There were all these cars that they compacted into cubes maybe 5-foot square, and my father told my mother that one of them was her car. It was red the same color as her car. I don't think it was, he was just saying that.

Yeah, my mom sold my grandpa's Monte Carlo at one point, something from the late-70s/early-80s. I had hoped to have it as my first car (completely unrealistic since it would've needed to sit for such a long time, it was older than me) and years later we saw it on the road, had to be the same car, with some damage from a wreck on the driver's side. It was sad.

As always, love the vintage iron. I bought a mint '69 Newport 4 door sedan with 1,700 original miles on it around 20 years ago. 383 2 barrel, amazing condition. Quite the cream puff. I like that they didn't destroy this coupe.

Sweet! My parents used to have a Spitfire years ago! The one they actually had was a 1975 model, was colored yellow,, was a convertible, and had a manual transmission. That was the ONLY car that my mother drove that had a stickshift trannie. Other than that, ALL vehicles she drove were automatics.

1969 was the peak in pwr output for the Chrysler big block mills. This car seems to have had either a 383 or an optional 440..but the 383 was far more common. If a 4bbl carb, hp was around 330. Car weighed about 3,800 lbs. The Spitfire was 1,700 lbs and had 57 hp. So.. yeah. This chase would of been over in a few seconds. Even given if the Spitfire somehow made it to those dirt roads..still no dice on the go cart..I mean, Spitfire. Those Mopars were very well designed cars and handled off road/dirt/gravel really well. I should know, I drove them as dailies in the 80's-2000 in Wisc. Rain, sleet, or snow never stopped them.. esp as I always bought decent tires, like Good Year Eagles..usually a 235.60.15.

I don’t know how you keep finding these classic films and chases but keep going it’s giving me a lot of ideas. Also wonder if someone will find an old iron horse like the Chrysler and turn it into a drag race monster or maybe as an EV project in a few years with the mod kits coming out.

I had a '73 Newport in exactly the same trim as that one, with the 400 cubic inch big block. While it had a great, smooth ride, there's NO WAY that big boat could've caught up with a Spitfire cornering through country roads or busy streets. It just ain't happenin.'

I know the Newport would have some great acceleration the handling would be good for a car of this size class because the suspension was good we do have to remember that it's a large car and wouldn't handle as well as As the spitfire I'm not familiar with the 73 but I know the 69 did not have a lot of outright acceleration but once it was moving it could handle great there wasn't a lot of displacement and the electronic overdrive didn't it was a pretty fun car I'm sure it exists because it is mechanic owned in rust free Oregon
