LPL is very wrong here. The security of this lock comes from the fact that the T5 screwdriver is always missing when you need it.

As someone who has never picked a lock I feel highly confident in my ability to get this one open.

when he said it could be opened with a screwdriver, I thought he was gonna wedge a screwdriver in there to pop it open. Not once did I think someone would be stupid enough to produce a lock that you can unscrew and dismantle.

This is the best theft deterrent. Once a thief sees this lock, he'll know there's nothing of value and move on.

Bought one of these for my husbands grandfather. He was too unsteady to use a key or a combination but wanted to keep his shed locked. All it did was keep the honest honest but he was happy so why not.

A cheaper way: Write a note on whatever you want to protect, saying: Please don't open.

I think it can be very useful for a diary or something that the person willing to open it without permission don't want you to know that it had been open. It can be secure to use it as you don't have to worry of opening it in front of the person like with a code. Of course only if the person isn't a locksmith of following this channel.

They would have to be NUTS sending you this lock for "review" lol. they are literally screwing themselves.

You gotta appreciate the company sending it in. How else will companies improve their security without someone showing you how to break it? That's why other companies hire pen testers so they can see the flaws in their servers.

A little red locktight applied to the screws an it would require enough heat to separate the bond that would destroy the electronics . That would make it a fair tamper seal , just a thought

I think of locks like these a discouragment lock, it's not to stop people but its tells people you should be there or open this better than a sign would. There is a great quote I saw (don't know where) it goes "the fact that it is a sign and that is has text on it means that no one will read, not follow it's directions"

Hello LPL, Some thing I found out to my disappointment 'finger print readers' are a big problem for oldies. As a gift to my wife's very old (over ninety) parents I bought a small finger print SAFE. In the store it worked fine for me so I took it home, drilled holes in the wall to bolt the little safe solidly to the wall. But when I tried to get it to work with the old couple it would not work. It seems their little old hands did not open the lock. On inspection of their finger tips the skin was so wrinkled & grooved by age it would not give a reliable print to the reader. I had to return the safe to the store for a refund and repair the holes in the wall. Fortunately this happened in Beijing and customer service there blows western service out of the water so no problem with a full refund even though I'd used up the supplied wall bolts, packaging was a mess and the seller even came to our home pick up the safe.

I can just imagine the engineer's at the company saying 'we tested it...we really did'!

I find the best defense against thieves isn't a good lock, but just being dead broke.

Use pop rivets or weld it shut, solder the screw heads maybe??? I can see improvements been made and an ideal lock for luggage/travel bags etc

I think one thing to keep in mind is that some locks are designed to be used as evidence "the defendant didnt blindly walk into an unlocked room, the lock didnt fall apart from age, it was deliberately and consciously opened" kind of thing

Looks good for a work locker where you want quick access and not really worried about someone cutting your lock off.

Only use I can think of is for child-proofing cabinets honestly.

I bought this then CNC'ed a new casing made out of tungsten carbide, and put contacts for charging rather than a port, and I also filled the gaps by tig welding it.

Essentially it’s just for a gym locker that is in the open. Keeps people from easily accessing your stuff for a short period of time and they could not be opening screws with a screwdriver because it’s a highly visible area

I only started watching these a couple of months ago, but find myself absolutely outraged (as if I had any skill to assess these) by poorly designed locks now. Thanks LPL for completely shattering my worldview.

I wonder if the guts can be harvested and used for other non security related tasks since it appears to have some sort of actuator, I'd love to build something cool just to have a fingerprint activated feature of some type
