They should suspend the tolls on the PA turnpike, NJ turnpike and bridges to provide some financial relief to some of these commuters. Plus it would reduce congestion crossing the bridges removing the bottle neck the tolls create.

They stop tolls on all toll roads here in Florida when a hurricane threatens a part of our state to help anyone who needs to evacuate. They need to do the same here...the tolls do help maintain the toll roads so it would NOT affect any other infrastructure or the US Debt...do research b4 commenting...except to get those rigs rolling to supply what they carry

@docauwatson This is an emergency reconstruction due to a horrible accident. Not a run-of-the-mill construction project years in the planning. Some relief from the tolls for those made to detour seems the most logical thing to do IMO. Not like they could have made contingency plans like they would have with an expected period of construction. This more closely resembles the urgency of a hurricane (with which we get early warnings from weather forecasters and government officials and all their technology days before the event hits) than any scheduled construction project. Tolls should be waived. It's the right thing to do in the circumstances. I hadn't considered the tolls when I was thinking of the detours, just the poor folks whose neighborhood streets will be inundated with bumper to bumper traffic. Sometimes bending rules judiciously can ease the burden of an emergency situation.

May he rest in peace, a man just doing his job and then this, on Sunday morning, leaving his family in pieces. I immediately, when I saw the fire, and the reason for it, wondered, "How about the driver?" Forever this historic event in Tacony section (where one of my ancestors husband ran a bakery a century ago), will be recalled by them not for the traffic disruptions or the detours or the supply chain issues, but for the death of a partner, a father, a cousin, a friend.

As a 29 year and counting professional truck driver I'd love to know more about that driver. How long had he been a truck driver, how long had he been pulling tanks. How could they possibly know the drivers cause of death? The man was incinerated.
@paradoxical_taco
@paradoxical_taco Жыл бұрын
That’s what a medical examiner does, what they’re trained to do. Why do you think you know the exact condition of Mr. Moody’s body? When they removed the tanker, the cab of the truck was covered with a blue tarp, clearly to cover what must have been human remains that would have been identifiable as such - even by people driving by in other vehicles. The description of the medical examiner’s finding suggest the opposite of incineration - as the smoke and fire were listed as secondary causes of his death. I had been hoping there was something that would have at least rendered him unconscious so he would not be awake to burn alive. If the primary cause of death was the head wound, it almost certainly rendered him unconscious.

The biggest problem is the lead time to get new beams fabricated. This said, why not build a temp roadway with fill on northbound side (it appears you could fit 3 lanes of traffic each way), and cut out some median barrier for the crossovers. This, while the southbound bridge is rebuilt. Switch traffic to new bridge, remove temp roadway, and build new northbound bridge.

@Mr coz Of course we care about the driver and his family. However, government officials get good salaries to also address the needs of the local residents and businesses so they have their needs met. The government needs to be able to address the needs of the driver's family, address the needs of the community, and take action to reduce the risk of this kind of accident from happening again. "Just deal with it" is not an acceptable course of action for the richest nation on earth. We taxpayers pour trillions into governments at all levels, and we need to get results that take care of all dimensions of a problem.

I think you don’t understand how much interstate traffic is being funneled through that dilapidated neighborhood. Their frustration isn’t with the circumstance, it’s with how they are being left out of a conversation that impacts them directly. That area isn’t equipped for this level of traffic (hence an interstate) so now access is being deprived for the local community for the benefit of the traveling/commuter community. Why dont they just erect a temporary overpass on one side while doing construction on the other? Also, elevated portions of freeway are in sections. Just replace the sections. Whats the big deal? Work 24/7, get it done. They dont even have to work around traffic!! We've seen videos of overpasses replaced in a day or 2 in other countries. What are they doing differently, and why arent we doing that? My guess is it has to do with money. Either greed, causing them to work slower to make more or not enough money provided for projects, which is not the case here...

The Big Question: what will they do about that dangerous Cottman Avenue off ramp once they rebuild the bridge? I always hated that exit, as you have to turn left and go underneath in a sharp curve and worse, two exit lanes merge into one at the Auto Auction site, which is a danger all on it's own.

Okay, here's a crazy idea. The military have an equipment that are uses to temporary created a bridge when where is a large gap on a road or part of the bridge/overpass were destroyed so logistics could continue. Is it possible to allocate a military respond to temporary make one side of the overpass accessible until repairs are completed on the other side?
