Now I'm even more excited to get the rifle up and running so I can take it out to distance. Keep up the great work! :D

Hey Gavin, I shoot benchrest and I've noticed that since I started annealing every firing that I actually get better consistency with higher neck tension(2-3 thou) than I did with 1 thou which I used to use when I wasn't annealing. I believe the softer annealed necks held onto the bullet less tightly resulting in more inconsistent ignition. Having the additional neck tension cured the problem for me. All your groups had two touching and one out which could be a sign of something being not quite happy. Just food for thought! Nice shooting and nice rifle.

You know what’s cool about 6gt? Can get brass today. I hear those people talking about boutique cartridges but guess what all the greats started out the same way. Abs if we aren’t pushing and developing and trying new thing then what are we doing. Just my thoughts. Thanks UR and GA and Hornady and those responsible for this round and many of the modern greats. It really helps. Making things easier is generally a good thing. Now If we could get a handle on primer monopoly that would be nice. Anyways. Thanks again.

Fantastic build, great gun and round for the job vid, When I resize a couple of hundred or more 308 cases I use raw wool grease and a pad, I dab a bit of the grease on some cases and roll the the cases on the pad, works well and slips through the progressive press really easily, but you do have to wash the cases in hot water with a bit of dish washing liquid and stick them in the oven for 30 or 40 minutes at about 60 degrees c to dry them, but it is still a very fast way to size a big batch of brass

Love you videos- great to see the younger generations take interest. My dad, Uncle and Grandfather were Expert Marksmen in the military. I used to watch them tie a washer to a string from a limb and put 1.00 in the pot until the string was broke. The also made a hole and plugged it in their shotguns for Turkey shoots. They never lost. Kept shot together better.

Back in Oct we had our PRS season finale. (monthly club) I shoot gas gun in 6 ARC with a vortex viper pst gen ii scope. We finished our last stage of the match and I asked a few of the guys on my squad if I could look through their glass at our last target. (I wanted to compare because I knew I needed to upgrade this winter.) While I'm comparing scopes my friend says "I have some rounds left. Go ahead and give it a test drive." At first I was like nah, I don't want to get spoiled. He finally talked me into shooting his rifle. I don't have all the specs on his rifle but I do know it's a 6 GT through a 26" bartlein heavy barrel with a burris xtr 3 scope. (Barrel spun up by 5x5 precision) Yep, I never should have shot that rifle. After I adjusted for wind (Initial wind call was .3 left, ended up holding straight up.) I went 4 for 4 at 875 yards. I seemed sooooooooo easy. Hardly any recoil at all and with his glass I could pick up trace pretty easy. 6GT, for my 7 round experience, is fantastic! I'm just torn, do I go with dasher or GT when I switch to open bolt division? Decisions decisions.

For your info, I seat my 6mm .075 off lands, use 109 hybrid Bergers, bedded my MDT chassis (even though I was told no need to do it and Mr Cortina told me it was a waste of time being an AL chassis), use a Bartlein barrel (28in) and use a SilencerCo hybrid suppressor. My groups average .23 at 100 even in our FL heat. 650 yards holds similar MOA.

@gavintoobe After watching a few of your latest videos I've come to notice that you are always starting with new brass.. Which fired / used brass cleaning method do you currently prefer? Specifically, have you decided on one due to the amount of carbon it leaves in the neck for lubricity, or are you doing something like ultrasonic trying to remove as much as you can to get the brass as close as possible to the unfired factory state? I've seen some comments about scratching projectiles and "jumpy" seating pressures on the AMP gauge when folks remove the carbon completely from the neck but clearly as you are loading with new brass this can't be much an issue or is it? Thanks again for the great content!

You should update your AMP annealer to the latest firmware. This adds the "auto run" function where the machine senses a case being inserted and immediately anneals without having to hit the start button. Surprising how this little tweak really speeds up the process.

It sure does... only downside is that 1 in 50 case that falls out of the holder and back into the machine and gets double annealed. :-(

Watch the 6.5 Guys videos on the 6x47. They could not get the consistency with it that they got with the 6.5x47. The creators of the 6 GT have a video where they comment on this. They said that H4350 was too slow for the 6x47 and that Varget was too fast. They went with a cartridge length that was optimized for Varget and for good feeding out of AICS magazines.
@ironair67
@ironair67 7 ай бұрын
There are about 20 powders between 4350 and Varget in burn rate, so you should be able to find something that works in the 6x47L. I've read the issues with consistency, does that mean flyers, were possibly related to reamers with incorrect clearance in the neck. Too tight.

Since I do use an expander mandrel on the necks after running through the die, would you suggest I go with a .265 for now since the wait is who knows how long for the .266?

If you care about precision you would throw the expander ball in the trash and use a mandrel is set neck tension. Thats alot of work to have bad neck tension control.

What contour was the barrel? Looks like a M24. Why dont you wait to do your load development until your barrel gets 150 -200 rounds for reassurance your load still works after the barrel speeds up? I load some light loads to do the break in and then work up after it speeds up.

Question...I am in the process of switching from 6.5CM to 6GT. I run a 26" barrel on my MPA 6.5CM and was thinking about 26" for the new MPA 6GT but I see some people are running a 28" barrel. What were your thoughts on going with the 28" barrel? Thanks!!!
