On my second walk on the Gower Peninsula, I started from the car park at Parkmill and took the hill immediately upwards to the top and across the golf course, to Pennard Castle, now a ruin due to shifting sands, but was built in the 12th Century to protect against the Norman invasion of Wales, that happened from the 1060s onwards. This walk takes in the climb, the Pennard Castle ruin, the climb across the sand dunes and then down to Three Cliffs Bay and the retreating tide in the morning, over the stream to the stone spiral, and stepping stones.
Even though this particular walk was not long, it felt like double distance because of the sand that gave way with every step, especially when going uphill!
