Here's the rear Caliper, drilled/slotted rotor + brake pad kit I used in this video: amzn.to/3b8juOD
Do you hear a squeaking/grinding sound from your brakes, yet they appear to have plenty of pad remaining?
The rear calipers tend to seize up as they age and when that happens, the inside pad on the back of the rotor - the one you don’t see - ends up doing the majority of the work, until it wears down to nothing. By this point the rotor is usually shot as well, so today I’ll show how to replace the caliper, rotor and brake pads on the rear of my 2006 Acura TSX. This installation is the same for 2004-2008 TSX and similar for newer models as well as Honda Accords.
Here is last week's video, when I painted the new brakes to keep them from rusting: • How to: Paint Calipers...

Be advised at 5:06 anyone doing this repair you will have a wobble tire that will brake off your wheel studs and or tire falling off if you do not clean all the rust off wheel bearing before install the rotor. If you are using the same old rotor you must clean the rust off inside the rotor. This is a common problem on the Honda and Acura with this rear brake disk wheel design. Use a wire cup brush or wire brush to clean this.

Just finished mine. Thanks again. To add a note for those doing the 3g TL rears, everything is identical except you can skip the step with the emergency brake cable as it uses a drum set up inside the rotor and is not attached to the caliper.

Same for Acura RDX, plus the inner pad has 3 tabs to fit inside the caliper's piston bore. Add a little brake grease to the tabs so it slides in easier.

Thanks for this walkthrough. My parking brake cables both seized and took the calipers out with them so I had to get this done. I was able to do it alone, got one of those bleeder kits. I used to drive 90s Hondas and Acura’s and I’m glad it’s exactly the same job. Only thing I do differently is put the caliper on before the banjo bolt swap, it saves a mess, but you seemed quick about it. Thanks for the video and giving me the confidence I needed to do it! I’m also in NE Ohio and my tsx is just as rusty 🥲

I coated my TSX with fluid film before every winter and it helped to slow the rust, but the previous owner never did anything, so it was already rusting when I bought it. By the time I sold it in 2020, the rear subframe was pretty crusty. I'll buy another rust-free 6mt from down south one day...

I don’t have any experience with the newer Acura’s, but this rear brake video applies to most modern cars. There might be a slight difference in the e-brake and torque specs. But this would still be a good guide.
@JJWCH12
@JJWCH12 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this guide, it was really helpful! Just one suggestion - use a brake bleeder kit if possible to see air bubbles. And a question - is it a good idea to bleed all 4 brakes to ensure there's no air in the entire system?
@6thGearGarage
@6thGearGarage 3 жыл бұрын
A kit would be a nice addition! There's no need to bleed all 4 brakes if only the rears were open while working on the brakes. If you wanted to flush all the fluid though, it would be a good time to cross that off the list and do the fronts as well.
@potaijee
@potaijee 2 жыл бұрын
If you have to do more than one wheel, can you leave the bleeding until the very last so you only do it once? Or do you need to do it after each brake is done?
@6thGearGarage

You’re correct, leave the bleeding until all wheels are done. Bleed the brake line farthest from the master cylinder first.

its interesting to see the differences between a U.S spec TSX and a UK spec Accord, even the braking systems are different. UK cars, mostly got Lucas brake calipers, but they too suffer from the same problem of the slider pins getting stuck. My last replacement caliper was due to the handbrake mechanism getting completely seized that no amount of lubricating and working back and two would fix.
@6thGearGarage
@6thGearGarage 4 жыл бұрын
I had no idea the UK Accords were different other than the badging and grill. Any other major differences? I think UK has a specific fog light too, correct?
@pugman205
@pugman205 4 жыл бұрын
@@6thGearGarage the interior is completely different as well by the looks. Your radio is different to mine, but the centre armrest and console appear the same. I think we also got specific bumpers too. Fog lights did change also, normally they are oval, but diesel cars got smaller round spot lights. The the right side has a vent next to the fog light as there is an inter cooler behind there. Did any tsx come with headlight washers as well?
@6thGearGarage
@6thGearGarage 4 жыл бұрын
@@pugman205 The radio is one of the only options for the TSX. I have the base radio, the optional one is larger with a navigation screen. The only other option on the TSX aside from paint and interior color, is the transmission. No TSX's had headlight washers. They all had the K24a2 as an engine as well and 17" alloys standard.
@pugman205

@6thGearGarage

To me that sounds like the wheel needs balanced or may be slightly bent. But the heat part is strange. If pads are thinner on that side then caliper could be sticking.

@6thGearGarage
@6thGearGarage Жыл бұрын
The short term damage is excessive pad wear and maybe worn/warped rotor. The long term damage from the excessive heat that you may not notice right away is shortened life of caliper, wheel bearing and over heated brake fluid. At a minimum, I would bleed the brake fluid from that caliper and add some fresh fluid. Then keep an eye on the other things to see if they have issues over time.
