1999 ford f-250 -20 cold start with 6 inch stack hard start, couple bad glow plugs and the gpr was acting up. not plugged in

If you fully cycle the glow plugs, it would probably fire right up. If it's that cold, itll take almost 2 minutes to cycle them. The light is just a reminder that they are cycling. It doesnt mean they are done when the light goes out. If you look closely, you'll actually see your voltage meter jump when they stop

He cycled them perfectly in that weather, and it took him about 2 minutes all on his own without you??. Your advice/post is absolutely moot/worthless here. WTF?!?

You know I have one of those seven three trucks like that it's an F250 and that truck is at 250,000 miles I bought it 10 years ago I'll never ever have to buy another truck in my life again cuz it's so dependable engine truck and and the nice thing is I even stuck a dime into it since I bought it other than Tires and Brakes

Seems to be a fairly normal start for -20 and not plugged in. I'm surprised it started that easily. Hard winter starting is exactly the reason they have a block warmer.
@nathanheaverlo96265 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing this is a non US 7.3 truck. I drove a 1999 F-550 with a 7.3 powerstroke, but the fuel gauge read E and F, not the circles on this fuel gauge. Really wish Ford would bring a modern 7.3 to market, those engines are so bulletproof and capable!

I have a 96 7.3L with 329,530 miles on it and the other night it got to -15 here and i forgot to plug it in. cycled the glow plugs once and it fired right up. smoked for a few but that always happens lol

I’ve got a 1997 7.3 and it’s been starting up without being plugged in with only one glow plug working. We just checked and found out it was the glow plugs and replaced them Jan 5th. It didn’t like starting but it did start with only one glow plug on days with it being 22 in the morning.

I put two 500 watt halogen lamps under the engine at night and it works pretty good. Those heat blankets look good too but I never tried one

Hello there, could I use a part of your video for my cold-starting compilation? of course I put a link to your original video in the description, increasing the original’s popularity too. Thank you for answer in advance :)

Why is it that every engine related to International never seems to miss much after it actually "starts"? DT466, once cylinder fires, they all fire and run smooth as if it was warm. Same goes for most 7.3.
@dandable2 жыл бұрын
For the love, stop “cycling” the glow plugs!!! Even though the wait to start light goes out, the glow plugs stay on for up to 190 seconds!!!

Try letting the fuel system cycle even after the wait to start light goes off, you can hear the pump right up in the dash, when it stops pumping turn her over and she'll fire right up
@psd282 жыл бұрын
my 7.3 has a mechanical fuel pump
@rc96602 жыл бұрын
Unless you hear a slight high pitched whine, that sound is not even close to the fuel pump located under your left elbow straight down on the rusty frame rail. You my friend, I think that you are hearing your vacuum pump needlessly pumping away for your faulty 4x4 system, or your HVAC dash controls, no?

@keviningram46775 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with the batteries, the problem was he did not plug his truck in overnight to keep the glow plugs on and the engine block warm. If he had plugged his truck in overnight the truck would have turned over the first try.

Man mine wouldnt start the other day, and im in texas, it was kinda cold but it usually starts on the second try. I tried plugging it in but i guess the block heater went out on it. Ran the batteries down a lil bit trying. I might try some engine starter fluid.

with these huei systems you hit the glow plugs onces unless you have bad ones and stand on the starter for 10-15sec if it doesn't offer to light rinse and repeat it needs to crank to get the high pressure oil pressure up enough to fire the injectors and a lot of 7.3's leak down if not driven every day so you get an air bubble and they buck and snort

Not to be a naysayer, but how does that help? I thought the main issue is cold air+cold combustion chamber=low combustion temps which prevents diesel fuel ignition in cold weather situations. I may be wrong, which is why I'm asking.
@tyhart75917 жыл бұрын
Andrew B you aren't wrong you are correct diesel fuel is ignited by combustion chamber heat and compression

@@jeanniebaker9929 You need a real 7.3 mechanic...IPR and/or IPC valve sensor(s) just to start with, not to mention an EBP sensor & tube redo, fuel, air filter, on and on, and for good measure replace the CPS... Copy this and give it to a real shop. Your truck will run like it's new like mine at 430,000 miles currently.

mines a late as well, but doesnt have this cluster. if i remember right, the 99s were mixed up. some that count as early had late model engines, some early models had late badges, some late had early badging. some late had early engines, i think the same goes for interior. part of that i think had to do with some of the retooling, and just using old stock. of course also my late 99 was the start for the L99 so im not surprised to have some early parts.
