Join me as I review and taste some different types of lemons and limes. I'll go over some information about these cool citrus varieties, so you can consider some different lemons to grow. In this selection of Citrus we have some giant lemons, called Ponderosa Lemons which were originally from Maryland, USA and are a cross between Pomelo and Citron. We've also got Meyer Lemon, Yen Ben Lemon (which is a sport of the Lisbon lemon variety), and my favourite sweet lemon called Lemonade.
We have some lime varieties too, including Key Lime, Limequat and Makrut Lime, also known as Thai lime.
These varieties of lemons and limes have varying degrees of cold hardiness of which we'll briefly cover in the video. Some of these fruits also have some interesting uses, like Makrut lime being used as shampoo or in cleaning products as well as in Southeast Asian cuisine.

The Ponderosa lemons can be entertaining when you think they are a grapefruit. My dad came down to Florida a few years ago for Thanksgiving. We found Ponderosa lemons at a fruit stand in the West Palm Beach area. I bought some and sent them back up to Pennsylvania with him. He gave them to friends and family up there and did not particularly describe what they were. My sister got one from him and thought they were grapefruit, so she packed it in her husband's lunch. He got a big surprise!

thank you for the knowledge. I learnt something new today esp. the makrut lime,I never knew it was called makrut.😊😊 in here we call it limau purut. usu. we just use its leaves for tom yam or rendang, while the fruit sometimes is used for bath like flower petals infused water for bathing and as ingredient in some spiritual healing process. the fruit tasted a little bitter if I'm not mistaken, and very fragrant(its zest).

As always your videos are great, you should consider adding citrus glauca and its hybrids to your collection, I own an eremorange and an eremolemon that have yet to fruit but they look so unique and different from other citrus, also the crushed eremorange leaves have a super strong mandarin smell. The fruits should also be very unique

I am also getting a sweet lime to go with the lemonade in a double planting. my dad planted a lemon tree many years ago when i was a kid. in fruited great but no 1 picked them or used them, until 1 late day in the summer time whilst drinking some homebrew with dad i said i wanna try a bit of lemon in this home brew beer to try add a new flavor.. so i peeled it like a mandarin .. pulled off a slice and ate it .. man it was good first initial taste was a bit sour but very sweet at the same time.. i loved it .. went back for more .. ate the whole tree . over the season .. then disaster struck. some sought of blight . told dad to spray it but he still hasn't .. overall what a delicious lemon.. told all my mate honestly try this lemon.. they rekon nah bro .. when im drinking my lager ill go to dads harvest a few that look good for eating peel em put a slice in my beer... lemonade lemon .. i should take some cuttings . cheers from rotorvegas .. your channel is full of great content subbed and like every video i watch cheers

Love it. And it's great you eat those lemons, it's something I use to do and I don't care sourness at all. The coconut-sized ones are just beautiful! I've arrived in Tuscany today, for ten days. In front of my window it's Florence central market, I'm going tomorrow (and to another veggies-focused as well)... let's see what I can find... still want a chinotto! For a start, today I've bought three different brands of grapefruit juice, trying out... And what have you done with the rest of the limes/lemons you haven't eaten? marmelade? lemonade? just raw? Thanks for the video and have a great day!

@@TheKiwiGrower Three markets today, and I'm kind of disappointed, just the regular lemon, orange and lime... that's not much. Chinotto only in the soft drink I told you, the 'chinò', bought two half an hour ago, one down, one to go, later. Good stuff here it seems to be artichokes, violet hue, and aubergines, very big, round, white... and very funny oriental greens in the central market (!?!), not very Italian, but who am I to question... Enjoy those sour cubes, with some envy I tell you, from this oven of a city. Good day!

A common lime we have in Malaysia is the calamansi lime. We eat prawns with a dipping sauce of calamansi lime juice, soy sauce, and fresh chilli. I implore you to try Musami or sweet lime. It's awesome. I'm eating it right now!

@@TheKiwiGrower Yes its a tropical fruit that comes around in Late-Mid October here in Pakistan and India. I hope that someday maybe you can try it as well. And thanks for replying to my comment, made my day. Your accent makes everything better and it calms me down to just watch you plant some crops and grow them and harvest them and stuff.

Hey! I bought a small lemon tree . Just harvested the first lemons. Do you know how I could know which variety they are? Based on how they look I think that they are Meyer or Dwarf lemons.

I was wonder what the best citrus for zest is, I was going to make a citrus infused liqour like a limoncello but I want a super flavourful zest.
Is it Cake or Fake ? 🍰
