I've been a double bass player in rock 'n' roll and country bands for several years now, but I always loved the the sound of an accordion more. (I'm Belgian, so I grew up with the music of Jacques Brel in which accordeon is very important.) About 7 years ago I bought an accordeon and decided to learn it myself, just like I did with bass and guitar. Long story short: 3 years later I still didn't understand the bass side of the instrument, so I sold it again, thinking this instrument was way too hard for me. I kept regretting this every single day since. But last weekend, I decided to give it another try and bought myself a new accordion. Finding your channel is one of the best things that happened to me in my 'musical carreer'! NEVER before did anyone explain the basses on an accordion so clear as you did. I finally feel I could end up being a real accordion player someday. Although I'll never be as good as Marcel Azzola, with your great videos and lots of hard work I will get somewhere eventually! Thanks you a million times!

This may sound stupid to a professional but I found bass buttons in a row that spell various words. Look at a button chart of 120 bass and look for the word โ€œBEADโ€......and so on. There are other words also. My point is, method learning is a personal thing especially if youโ€™re self teaching. Pay close attention to correct fingering on the bass as you make these pleasant discoveries and you will be pleasantly surprised.๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ‘โœ๏ธ๐Ÿ’Ÿ

Thank you so much! Iโ€™m 61 and Iโ€™m finally going to learn the accordion, (I play piano a bit) I just bought one yesterday (itโ€™s cheap๐Ÿ˜…) to get going and finding you is inspiring and empowering, so your mission is accomplished! The first French one that you play always brings me to tears, I love it. Our mother is from Germany and dads family from Northern Italy and Iโ€™ve always loved the accordion and the waltz is hands down my favorite tempo. Iโ€™ve also lived in Tijuana and speak French, so accordion has been everywhere for me! Love your video demonstrations here, so clear, and Iโ€™m so encouraged. Thank you thank you thank you.

Interesting that the Rhumba is the same left hand and rhythm that we use to play the "terkisher" (turkish rhythm) in jewish music. I've always wanted to learn ever since my dad showed me my late grandmother's accordion (I'm not sure if hers was a Capri as well, but I always wanted to learn on my own first before even attempting to try hers). Her favorite song to play was Redwing and it makes me feel close to her when I hear it. Maybe when I have a lot of practice, my dad would let me near her accordion some day!

Lady, you can play my 12 bass anytime. You are gorgeous. I'm teaching myself all over again. I used to own an 80 bass. Keys are not the problem, it's getting used to moving the bellows again, and smoothly to start with, then learn to play in G and D so I can play Celtic music. I've been playing guitar for so long, have forgotten too much. Mind you, with your help, I might get back into it quicker. But....while I can sort of read music, I can't quickly sight read while playing, that goes for all the other instruments I play. I am a big fan of Moriconi.

Newbie here. I have a 120 button piano GENERALFISA accordion. It is 19 inches wide across the keyboard. Do the accordions with less bass buttons have more space for your fingers? Say a 40 button? I am 6'=5" and do not have small hands... so my fingers are having issues fitting on the bass buttons. No matter if I use the 4-3 or 3-2 left hand technique, the button spacing seems very tight for my left hand. Thanks for your wonderful video. Hope you can offer some direction.
@Accordionlife
@Accordionlife 3 ะถั‹ะป ะฑาฑั€ั‹ะฝ
Hi! Great question! Accordion models vary a little bit with the distance between bass buttons regardless of number of basses. If you go down to a 48 bass, you may have trouble with the size. Since you are tall, it's best to have an accordion that fits the length of your torso. There are different techniques for playing the bass buttons which may help you. If you want live, personal feedback, we can set up a half-hour session with one of our instructors who can answer your questions better than I can in a comment. I see the benefit of the 4/3 method, but find ut hard to angle my hand and fit all the finger in the small place when playing minor chords. Is it Oki to use 4/3 for major and 3/2 for minor?
@Accordionlife
@Accordionlife ะ–ั‹ะป ะฑาฑั€ั‹ะฝ
Thanks for the comment! For minor chords, tou would use finger 4 on the bass note and finger two on the minor chord. It may feel strange at first, but it's more accurate and will be more comfortable in the long run. :)

How about for honer diatonic Corona ll is it the same, or is there another book. Can't find any books only in Spanish I can read it but I speak more English, to understand more ...need a book with tablature for diatonic ....books are always in key board style. Diatonic for tejano . Let me know Thank you
@Accordionlife
@Accordionlife ะ–ั‹ะป ะฑาฑั€ั‹ะฝ
Hi! I know that Hohner has a book on the diatonic accordion. While the layout of the bass side of the Corona is different from stradella bass, most, if not all of these patterns should still work. Hohner has a chart of the keys and bass here: www.hohner.de/fileadmin/documents/instruments/accordions/diatonic/corona/corona-ii/hohner-accordions-corona-ii-fingering-chart.pdf Note that instead of being set up diagonally, the bass layout is set up vertically on the chart. The bass note is below the major chord. You could still use the bass patterns in this video, but it would be with a major chord and you may need to modify it with no alternating bass. But I'm not an expert on the Corona. I hope this helps!

Where can I find replacement parts? The one I had 4 treble cliffs, this one had several! It looks more advanced than the one I had (120 bass). Can you explain this to me?

Hi Marianne, Thanks for the comment! It sounds like your accordion needs quite a lot of help. Depending on the accordion, parts may not be available. I learned 3 2, for major and minor. 4 2 for 7th and diminished
@Accordionlife
@Accordionlife 2 ะถั‹ะป ะฑาฑั€ั‹ะฝ
Yes, that's pretty common, but we do recommend 4,2 for major and minor for the reasons mentioned in the video. It can be hard to switch, however, if you've played that way for years and years. If you do want to switch, we recommend doing that on new pieces you are learning instead of pieces you already have down. :)

Hi! Thanks for the comment! You can find the free digital ebook here: accordionlifeacademy.com/jump-start-guide We don't currently have it available in print version. We also have the Mastery of the Bass Buttons course and ebooks available here: accordionlifeacademy.com/ A good accordion for an 8-year old would be the Hohner Bravo 48. Those currently run about $1,299.00. Would you be shipping it to India? Unfortunately, at the moment, I think shipping to India would cost more than the accordion. I'm not sure if Hohner has any dealers over there, but it might be worth looking into. I hope this was helpful!

@Accordionlife 2 ะถั‹ะป ะฑาฑั€ั‹ะฝ
Hi Guillermo, sorry we didn't see your comment before! The Hohnica is ok, but not our favorite. The Hohner Bravo 48 is much better in terms of sound and quality.

I'm confused. You show a small accordion with 8 bass buttons but when your people demonstrate a rhythm they use an accordion with many bass buttons.
@Accordionlife
@Accordionlife 7 ะฐะน ะฑาฑั€ั‹ะฝ
The tiny accordion in the main photo is rare and most accordions have many more buttons than that. Many of the patterns can still be played on a smaller instrument-but for demonstration sake we used a more common size instrument. :)

Saying the rhumba only has a little African influence is questionable. The majority of Latin American music uses rhythms stemming from Africa as building blocks not the other way around lmao.

Thanks for the feedback! This particular video isn't geared toward the absolute beginner, but you can slow it down by adjusting the playback speed in the settings. :) Our core curriculum course on AccordionLifeAcademy.com starts at the very beginning for students who have never played or who want to play again after a long hiatus. Best wishes on your accordion journey!

Hi There this is Mr C. T. Boxill-Harris, I was wondering if they need to do the exact same version of Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime, why donโ€™t they just Replace the Synthesiser String Sound with a Musette Accordion ๐Ÿช— and make this Musette sound for the Accordion ๐Ÿช— 4 and a half times More Deeper then the Synthesiser String Sound and also Replace the Xylophone Sound to an 11 Times More Deeper Chime Bell or Even a
