It was just over two centuries ago that the global population was 1 billion - in 1804. But better medicine and improved agriculture resulted in higher life expectancy for children, dramatically increasing the world population, especially in the West.
As higher standards of living and better health care are reaching more parts of the world, the rates of fertility - and population growth - have started to slow down, though the population will continue to grow for the foreseeable future.
U.N. forecasts suggest the world population could hit a peak of 10.1 billion by 2100 before beginning to decline. But exact numbers are hard to come by - just small variations in fertility rates could mean a population of 15 billion by the end of the century.

A glass is actually a very good metaphor for population capacity. The capacity of the glass(population capacity) keeps changing as industries develop and basic goods are more readily available, increasing the pop cap. When the water(population) exceeds the capacity of the glass, water spills out(lots of deaths). Our challenge is to increase the volume of the glass in a sustainable way.
@yosefmacgruber1920
@yosefmacgruber1920 2 жыл бұрын
But an overflowing glass doesn't mean deaths. It merely means that your glass is too small. Maybe next time, use a big wash tub. Or a swimming pool. Plan to grow better.

@@therabbidt Well I like the analogy also, however, I very much dislike how misleading that perhaps it was meant to be. Most any analogy has its limitations, for example, as a pro-lifer, I would rather that the "population bathtub" be naturally overflowing over its side and the water flowing all over the floor and down the steps. Because why-ever should human populations be limited to some tiny little area of the planet? So you can see then how that analogy is already failing and isn't entirely even relevant. Bigger drinking glasses is the obvious fix, but then the demonstration would seem less dramatic? Well maybe it ought to be less dramatic. Well at least they didn't overflow the glasses, but still committed that statistical sin, by implying that they could be about to overflow. Population alarmist liars, love "overflowing" graphs, because they oppose their fellow human beings, following their father the devil, the father of disrespect and lies. Yet any decent statistician knows that an overflowing graph merely means that it wasn't scaled properly.

That time, humanity has spread beyond Earth and spread across the stars, seeking a new planet to settle upon and populate it in order for our civilization to survive for the next millenias. This is what the purpose of our reproductive system in the age of space colonization, to pro create and give chance for human civilization to survive vs extinction

Europe is self-sustaining and has stable population for decades now. Africa and Asia are not. They're breeding like rabbits and are causing poverty, resource scarcity and possibly conflicts in the future. You should wonder what happened the last time population masses moved in unison to other inhabited areas for sustainable environments. There will be war for water, energy and food in the distant future.This is the mathematical inevitability of having uncontrolled population booms. Rabbits start dying out after they overbreed, since some of them cannot find food. They're also hunted by predators. On the other hand, we're intelligent beings motivated by self-interest, and we have no predators controlling our population. Figure what will happen once the bubble bursts.

mpogias13 europe and the west in general consume resources and live less sustainable much more than any other population in the world. for instance: a single child born in the US will 13 times damage to the environment than 12 kids born in the rest of the world. africa has the lowest consumption of natural resources or impact on the environment compared to the west. efforts should focus on the biggest polluters, consumers and destroyers of the environment

***** What is so great about it? Birth control is unnatural, awkward, and aims to prevent human life. Many people won't use "artificial" methods due to the awful side-effects, or due to religious reasons. Until a half-century ago, birth control was hardly even heard of, and people pretty much let babies happen as they happen. Imagine no religion? Does that include getting rid of the false religion of evolution/atheism? What then does that leave? Emptiness? Nothingness? Do people not believe in anything anymore? How sad. What then, do they live for? Do I see the twin towers in your profile images? Sorry, but it seems we can't blame that upon the violent and intolerant Muslims, who seem to be a handy scapegoat these days, if 9-11 was actually an inside job. The government/media story makes no sense. The conspiracy theories explain what happened, better. Check out the book, by Dr. Judy Wood, Where Did The Towers Go? It has some interesting stuff, and a lot of photos.

Yosef MacGruber OK, you have shown yourself to be a complete anti-science idiot. I believe in many things that have been scientifically shown to be true. The science has nothing to say, towards any supposed "need" to limit births. Evolution theory has never been proven. Climate change used to be global warming, used to be coming-ice-age. The theory keeps ever changing, so it has never been proven. Overpopulation theory has never been proven. I know enough science, to know when wicked anti-freedom NWO elitists are inserting stupid political opinions, under the guise of science, and thus mocking science by their crafty deceptions. I love science, so I will call them out on that, when I catch them doing it.

The world become a truly inhospitable place if there was 15 billion people on this planet. We are fucked if the population grows to 15 billion because even at "only" 7.25 billion, the planet's biosphere is completely collapsing. With twice as many people, the planet's life support systems will completely collapse. And we might end up living on a barren desolate planet. Unless mankind realizes that infinite growth in consumption and population is impossible on a finite planet, there can never be true happiness. We have been pursing infinite growth in population and consumption for far too long. End the infinite growth paradigm if we are to survive as a species.

Amanda...we will not get that far...seven billion plus right now, and next is fumigation time...how much population the world will lose between 2017 and 2064???...lets see...one billion death, will make practically no difference and will fix planet earth for a very short time, two billions will do a better job but not a fix for longer than a century or so, but twice that?, four billions??, will do a big fix for centuries and centuries to come...remember that when 25,000 people die a day in planet earth, there is way a bigger amount the ones that born in that specific day and how many die today at natural causes, famine , killings and wars???...there is always a bigger amount to be born, but when fumigation starts fully, in 2017 and ends by 2064, the world will be at a mere 3 billions and then, no later than 2064, we will be able to analyze our resources in 2064, and see, if we can let the same amount of babies to be born a day, compared to the deaths on the same day...but for right now, this is way out of control and that is the only and more important reason , we will be engage in WW3...the way the West do this planing have no equal and we, Americans and Europeans have our populations under control very well, but the rest of the planet, proved how disrespectful they are toward worlds population and world resources...if you are a young person, you will live long enough to see in the next 50 years or so, how mighty right Joe Molinaro was...remember...I TOLD YOU SO...
@MsMikuHatsume
@MsMikuHatsume 9 жыл бұрын
Joe Molinaro you are right. The world will never even have 15 billion people because we will not be able to produce enough food to feed 15 billion people. We are already having a hard time producing enough food for 7 billion people, so what makes you think we will have enough food for 15 billion people? We will never be able to produce enough food to feed 15 billion people because the world has already ran out of arable land. We are at peak arable land. And we can't improve food production per acre of land either. That has also been maxed out. The world population might be able to grow to 10 billion, but that's about it.

@davepx1

AmandaNerdBot Worthy thoughts, but population and consumption are different cases. Most people consume very little, a minority consume lots. And the people whose numbers are increasing tend to consume least, as will their children. Population won't hit 15 billion: births are about to start coming down while we've ever more elderly reaching the end of their time. World population's taking care of itself though it'll take time, but consumption by the better-off among us will spell disaster if we don't rein it in or shift rapidly from material to other pursuits.

What often happens I think, is that they just had their 4th child, and still haven't gotten around to choosing a "satisfactory" method of birth control. They may not even realize that their family is starting to get really large. And by the time they have a large family, it is too late, and they find that they have gotten used to large family life, and seem to like it.

laura theodora Only 17%? 4%? That is obviously false. Modern technologies such as air-conditioning and ocean water desalination, make it very possible, if people so choose, to live and thrive even in the deserts. Israel is proof that barren wastelands can be transformed. It is Malthusian people-hating, and backwards paganism, that needs to change. The evolution theory has seriously corrupted society, and encouraged people to do bad things. And don't we both know, the religions will never change, well except that truth will eventually overtake the lies. It is the loving and kind people, who are more easily persuaded to have more children, so it is one of those things that works out on its own. Somebody has fed you a bunch of pagan propaganda that has confused your mind.
