We take on a multi day DIY kayaking tour of the Johnstone Strait, Blackfish Sound and Broughton Archipelago. We go self guided on the 7 day adventure in northern Vancouver Island Canada. We see so much wildlife, including orcas, humpback whales, seals and a huge pod of dolphins!

Talking about your differing views on rules about keeping distance from whales, one of the silliest things I've seen is a marine ecological reserve in Robson Bight, where a zodiac zoomed in to warn a kayaker they were entering the sanctuary and could get in trouble for disturbing the whales (that were not present). Is that the the silly part? No. There were multiple commercial salmon fisheries at the time. Purse seine, gillnet and troll. Some of the boats were actually legally fishing in the bight, and about 185 in total parading up and down the boundary line, or setting nets off the point marking the southernmost boundary. But this kayak was the problem, lol.

When I lived in Tacoma I used to fish the Peugeot Sound. Loved it, the ripe tides, the Eddies would be 8 plus feet deep at tide change Orcas so close you could reach out and touch them. You just did what I have longed to do my whole life. Only I want it to be about half the length of the tour divide. Or their abouts. Doing it with your spouse is what I long for, it’s how God intended life to be !

Oh wow! That’s awesome you saw orcas so close! Love the Puget sound. We used to live in Seattle! If it’s something you long for you should do it if you are able! Life is short 🙂

So great to catch up with you guys! Hope you are well! Really great to see this Kayaking adventure and cool to see all the things you had to pack. Love the animation of the kayaking in the water and the currents! Learning so much about this which is fun! We went kayaking a couple times, but the waters were pretty calm. The craziest part was when it started raining and it got a little choppy. This all happened in Turks and Caicos. The music was so dramatic, Can't get SMASHED! Be careful! Feels like we were kind of watching naked and afraid! Loving the drama! Hope you guys are staying safe! So many strong Currents!

Based on when this video was posted, we may have been there at the same time last year! 😂 I went with a kayaking tour but I do remember stopping for a break on little Hanson island after crossing the strait and we all noticed that someone had a camp set up there lol

That’s awesome that you got to explore this area! Did you have a good trip?! We went in early July, I believe but didn’t get the video out for a bit. We stopped for a break on little Hanson but didn’t camp as it was full.
