​ @the wonderingelectrician , @Side Trail Adventures and Dirt Dobber join me on a quest to paddle the entire Deep River. 120 miles, 10 dams, long lakes, and rugged terrain stand in the way. This is a special river to me as my 7th great grandfather settled on these banks before the founding of this country. Come along and join us as we embark on the adventure that is the Deep River Expedition. This would be a seven day Kayak Camping journey that flows straight through the heart of North Carolina. This is a trip that did not disappoint.

For me, I never count getting in and out of a boat as a swim. A swim to me is if you flip over and you have to swim out of the boat.

I vote no swim for Austin. That was a slip. In boxing it wouldn't be ruled as a knockdown, but as a slip. This video kept me on edge of seat on the technical stuff and those damns looked like some work. Great vid.

There's a real nice set of rapids underneath old Liberty road bridge in Central falls. But cannot be seen because of the impoundment of Cox lake dam. I've seen the rapids one time in the early 90s when I draw the water down.Central falls gets it's name because it's in between the rapids of Randleman and Cedar falls.

All kidding aside, I spent the evening reviewing the archives for a precedent. And there is at least one-Jerry Yang was awarded a swimmer bell when he slipped exiting his boat at the river bank. My ruling, therefore is “DING”!

I know this instance you're referring to and that was MUCH deeper water....he fell backwards and was submerged. Very different than what happened that day on the Deep.

Really have enjoyed your videos for a wile now, i bought me a kayak a few mounts ago but due to health problems I could not get out but now my doctors have give me great bill of health so aim gearing up to enjoy the great rivers. Thank you again for the inspiration. OH How do i get a sticker??

Beautiful footage of the river, love Austin is sporting Gatewood's Remote design merchandise. Pete and fellow paddlers on this adventure are making memories and keeping my dream alive of someday paddling my Yukon up in NC. @@SideTrailAdventures when exiting a boat, one must complete the venture in control. Falling into the water regardless of depth results in...the bell. Many before you have suffered this fate...you had on leg in the boat wen calamity struck

@@joshinfwtx4506 Pedro is probably correct, But I put the Necky through everything it could handle, and Optimus is still hanging on my wall- the Dagger has a Skeg, But- the Necky has a Rudder... 14.5 is the Length you want for a week long unsupported paddle....

lots or dams. Were they all built for mills? I've seen a few stories about dam removal on rivers up in the Northeast. What's the attitude toward removal of these small dams in North Carolina?

They have been removing them slowly though the for doing so has seemed to wain somewhat in the last few years. I'd love to see them gone.

Some of these small dams still generate electricity -- albeit a small amount and are privately owned. They have not made a profit but the owners are eternally optimistic and as such they remain.

Haha, no that wasn't a swim. The body has to be moving with the current or not purposefully attempting to get in or out of the kayak to make this a technical swim. I'm giving a pass on this one - if only to give myself a pass for when this happens to me, lol...

@@RiverKingsKayak okay, I'll give you that. And by the way, great video. I really love your kayak camping trip videos. A buddy and I are kayaking the entire length of the Wisconsin. We started at the source and have made about 160 miles so far.

@@RiverKingsKayak well come on up! There are plenty of awesome sections. Small creek size sections, large big river sections with sandbar camping, and plenty in between. Unfortunately, most of the whitewater has been drowned under reservoirs. But still lots of great paddling.
