I like to think Old Man Marley paid for the toothbrush Kevin took because he knew Kevin was frightened off by him.

Another thing people claim is we never see Kevin's actual bedroom. However, we do. When he's asking Jeff about packing a suitcase, they're in a room with bunkbeds. With a house of five kids, it's obvious some share rooms. We also see this room slightly when Kevin looks at his "Battle Plans".

The premise of a family forgetting one of their kids at home while they went on vacation is a very specific one, and a lot of care had to go into the writing, so that the family (especially the mother) didn't come off as unsympathetic to the audience. The family had to be very large, and the situation had to be very chaotic, so there had to be a lot of characters introduced very quickly and efficiently, including the protagonist Kevin. The writers pulled off a minor miracle by making the film as well as they did.

The wedding ring could be for a lot of reasons. He could be married, but it could also be a keepsake from his first robbery that just happened to fit him. And maybe like you said to make him seem more likable. He could also be a widower. 😊

The fact that you realised all these things in the home alone series makes you really observant. And just imagine how weird it would be if Kevin went to the airport without a passport, the whole family(Except Uncle Franks) family would probably just cancel the vacation I suppose

I'm pretty sure that ring wasn't part of the costume. It might belong to Joe Pecci the actor, not Harry the character

The wedding ring part is because Joe pesci didn't want to take it off during filming so the producers let him wear it and didn't expect people to look so deep into it

Fun fact: In the original script, Uncle Frank was the one who hired Marv and Harry to rob the McCallister house. To be honest, I think that would've been an interesting plot twist

Only things I didn't notice before were the Marley connection or the van's slogan. Seen the movies dozens of times, but now I'm gonna be looking even closer. Nice video and info. And nice attention to the show to pick up on all that stuff.

I'm sure we all picked up on this: Kevin going through Buzz's private stuff. Among the firecrackers, one can spot the chips or so that Kevin later on has next to him when watching 'Angels With Filthy Souls".

Wow! I've watched HA dozens and dozens of times! The first time was in the movie theatre, and I only knew about Buzz in his room and the snow globes. The Marley connection is fascinating!

Little noticed detail the wound on Marley's hand represents his broken family. Bloody and wrapped in the drugstore when Kevin steals the toothbrush, clean and bandaged in the church when he shakes Kevin's hand after talking to him, and healed at the end when he hugs his granddaughter and waves to Kevin.

The snow globes were for each house they robbed, Joe forgot the wedding ring during shooting

One detail that I picked up for the first time after watching the movie numerous times was during the kitchen scene at the beginning of the movie. When Uncle Frank says he has traveler's checks, you hear Peter say to him "you probably got the kind of traveler's checks that don't work in France."

And here I figured we didn't see the McAlisters' dog because he/she was a casualty of the pizza guy's reckless driving.

I think he stoles the ring.

I put a doggy-door in the wall of my previous house. I left it there when we moved (since it's now basically a permanent fixture of the wall without doing some serious reno). The new owners didn't have a dog, so now they have a house with a doggy-door but no dog. And yes, I put another doggy door in the wall of my current house.

In one of the crappy sequels Kevin's parents divorced and he went to live with his dad, while the rest of his siblings stayed with their mom. Dad was apparently rich and had a high-tech house that Marv (who's had a falling-out with Harry) and his wife decided to rob. Or was that Harry and his wife?

In observation & if you're interested, Kevin's value is not very high in the family, he doesn't really get any respect at all. More care is taken to mention how the dog is taken to the kennel, Kevin gets picked on & put down by everyone, especially Buzz & Uncle Frank, Kevin's airplane ticket gets thrown in the trash by his dad when his dad is cleaning up the spilt soda & wet pizza when Buzz pretends to throw up his pizza & Kevin gets angry & pushes Buzz. The entire family ignores, neglects & completely forgets Kevin the next morning, everyone basically cares more about themselves, the trip to Paris or anything else, BUT KEVIN, the only person who remembers Kevin is his mom, old man Marley (both out of concern), & Harry & Marv (out of getting rid of him). Coming from a similar childhood where I was ignored the same way in my family, I noticed how his family treats him everytime I saw this movie. The only way my family began to remember me is when I moved out & started living on my own & I told my family the wonderful things I was doing around the world.

I have an iconic movie suggestion you should make for behind the scenes after Christmas season is over. Have you seen Ghost (1990) that had Patrick Swayze? It’s an iconic beloved movie that teenagers and adults love to watch and it’s PG-13 if you’re wondering since I knew you dislike watching rated R movies. If you haven’t watch it, I highly recommend.
