@AplinsintheAlps
@AplinsintheAlps Жыл бұрын
That’s a big compliment, thank you so much!! 😊 Unfortunately that’s not a yes/no answer. These trails are open in the summer season, although their opening time totally depends on the snow. So there’s a chance they’re open in late May if there wasn’t a late snow/snowy winter. But we’ve seen them covered in some snow as late as Mid-June.

Hello! I’ve enjoyed watching all your videos while planning my upcoming trip to Switzerland. I have a hiking question…..have you two hiked Schynige Platte to First (or vice versa)? It’s a long hike and I am curious if most of the dramatic scenery was in the Schynige Platte portion, or if you recommend doing the whole trek, as it takes all day.
@AplinsintheAlps
@AplinsintheAlps 10 ай бұрын
Hello! Thanks for watching our videos to help you plan for your trip! Yes, we have hiked from Schynige Platte to First. Honestly there is such variation along the whole trail, and great views if you opt to go up to the Faulhorn (which we did!) and then descending to Bachalpsee. It’s about 6 hours with 2 mountain restaurants along the way. But you could also just hike around Schynige Platte one day, and then hike to Bachalpsee another day if 6 hours is too long for your preference.

@mountainlover830
@mountainlover830 Жыл бұрын
Hi, William. I’ve been on many of these hikes-and you can get a pretty good idea of which ones are kid/stroller friendly by looking at their video clips, but for sure the following are: #3 “The One for Everyone”. This Mannlichen ridge hike is known locally as “The granny hike” as it is fully paved and if you’re going from the Wengen end to Kleine Scheidigg it’s very gradually downhill. (Two things to note: at the top if coming from Wengen you turn left for the Royal Walk that goes to the crown looking platform. While it’s paved except for the last 45 meters it is steep; the last 45 meters is rocky path with some steps. Turn right for the Mannlichen Ridge hike but know that if you go all the way to Kleine Scheidigg and you haven’t bought the mountain excursion tickets there’s an extra fare above the Swiss Travel Pass ticket. You can always walk halfway and turn around.) #5 “The One with the self service huts” isn’t stroller friendly but there’s an alternate one from the end of Murren to Gimmelwald that is. It’s fully paved, downhill, and there are self serve shops in Gimmelwald and lovely views along the way. #7 “The one through the glacial valley” is perfectly flat, paved, and lovely, also with a few self serve stops along the way. The bus also runs the length with a few stops in case you get tired of pushing the stroller.

how to do the mannlichen royal walk (The one for everyone) from grindelwald? Is the travel covered under swiss pass? Or do additional tickets need to be purchased ?
@lauraezell7723
@lauraezell7723 Жыл бұрын
The Swiss Travel Pass will give you a 50% discount on the Gondola from Wengen or Grindelwald to the Mannlichen. At the top of the gondola you go left for the Royal Walk or right for the walk along the Mannlichen ridge to Kleine Scheidigg. It's a gorgeous walk to Kleine Scheidigg with the Eiger staring you in the face BUT once you reach Kleine Scheidigg all trains are extra fare. Your STP will cover some of the train fare back to Wengen or Grindelwald but you will need to supplement the ticket (the STP gives a 25% fare reduction). To avoid extra fare you can hike down the mountain to either town or back to the gondola stop. The STP gives you a 25% reduction on the new cable car from Grindelwald to Kleine Scheidigg/Eiger Gletscher.

@AplinsintheAlps
@AplinsintheAlps Жыл бұрын
Great question! I personally love a trail tennis shoe instead of a hiking boot. They’re essentially hiking boots minus the ankle height and are typically lighter. I’ve worn Brooks trail shoes before, love them. Now I’m trying Solomon trail shoes, and I also love them! They’re breathable in summer yet warm in cool temps, water resistant, and stretchy laces. Here’s a link you the ones I have (although I usually try them on first at REI) www.amazon.com/dp/B081KGMJ5Q?tag=thegroshe06-20,aps,168&sr=8-1&linkCode=sl1&tag=thegroshe06-20&linkId=78020e4466c46b1c58502a0729b1a4d7&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl

@AplinsintheAlps

It depends on the hike. Most are one way, but we mention when they're "out and back." For example, the hikes to Bachalpsee (starts and ends at Grindelwald First), to Oberberghorn (starts and ends at Schynige Platte), and to the Mönchsjochhütte (starts and ends at Jungfraujoch) are roundtrip.

I have a question for you. My sister is an ex-ex pat in Switzerland. She says this is her favorite hike in Switzerland (can't recall right off how long she's been there). Have you done this one? I'm referring to the All trails and it's called the Murren-Grutshalp trail. It's considered moderate on Alltrails but thats because it depends on which direction you go, because there is a more downhill and a more uphill route, It says 2,8 miles (4.5 km), I'm an experienced, though older hiker. She says it gives you a little of everything. (I'm going on a European alps tour and it is a sort of plan your own activities thing, and I'm staying in Wengen.)
@AplinsintheAlps
@AplinsintheAlps 11 ай бұрын
Hi there! This is absolutely doable and is considered an easier hiking trail in the area. The best way is definitely to go uphill (from Grütschalp to Mürren) because you'll be facing the mountains the whole time. But you only gain about 500 feet in elevation over those 4.5 km.
@515aleon
@515aleon 11 ай бұрын
@@AplinsintheAlps That's good because if I don't take my sister's recommendation, I might be in trouble. Another thing someone mentioned elsewhere is sort of downhill walk into Grindlewald. Have you done this? They said it was easy and beautiful. I'm leaving in two weeks, btw.

You’re so observant! 🤓I always prefer cropped pants, but yes it is cold up there. I had on wool socks that I pulled up when I got cold.
