Do you value honesty? You might think that honest people can be found at every turn on the street, but studies have shown that 40% of adults lie at least once a day. And although most of these account for small, white lies, it still counts as dishonest behavior. This makes honest people that much rarer, and valuable. So let's look at the revealing traits honest people have.

This world has a low number of honest people. If you see a problem you can help with, do so. But some people only think of their own advantages. It is hard to understand why everyone wants to fight over things that are not true. Our society has not been facing our problems like climate change, more people in poverty, and fraud.

Not everyone who appreciates it is going to frequently say so. They won't necessarily jump to thank you for your opinion, no matter how well regarded it has become for being so honestly based in reality... Part of the inherent reward for being honest simply IS being respected for it and having your opinions as well as observations rise to high esteem and respect among peers... Kindness mixed with honesty is a fine way to get your opinions and perspectives out to peers and actually have them heard in the first place, where the blunt and abrasive honesty that so many fancy on TV only tends to get you shunned and avoided... At some level, whether it seems outwardly appreciated or not, you should take occasion to look around and realize the respect, even the honor of being sought out and asked for opinion or perspective. Much of the population only ever wants the opinions that they want to hear. You need to FEEL their appreciation if only in the words when they ask you "Please... don't spare my feelings. I want your HONEST opinion..." That's a uniquely powerful position you gain, complete with the leverage to actually help them. ;o)

Remember this, people: There is a difference between honesty and being an asshole. For example, if there's someone who's been doing something that you don't like, such as your mother acting as if your grown adult self is still a child, you tell with a evenly leveled mind how you feel. "Listen, Mom, I know you mean well, but lately I feel as if you've been treating me like a child when I'm not anymore. Please understand that I'm 27 years old, and at that age of independence." That's honesty. You don't tell your mom "Jesus Christ, Mom, stop treating me like a fucking child! I'm sick of you! Leave me alone and get your own life!" That wasn't honesty. You were being an asshole towards your mom who most likely had no idea how you were feeling, and how she was treating you. In other words, don't be like Sheldon Cooper. That guy was an ass towards everyone :)

I think you’re right and it goes back to the levelled tone and calm demeanour. Honest people tend to have higher self esteem so they are often not interpreting situations as an attack on their character. They’re proud of their character. The first statement you mentioned shows someone who has rationally evaluated the situation and concluded that this treatment is not representative of who they believe they are, so they need to correct the situation. The second statement highlights someone who may actually be feeling like a child and feeling incompetent and is upset that someone else is seeing their inadequacies and thus is becoming defensive. Well said

No, honestly, in my experience, rude people are just plain rude and honest people are just plain honest. A truly honest person is a breath of fresh air and can say the truth non-judgmentally, as is. A rude person is often one who justifies being a disrespectful, sarcastic pain in the butt as "honesty".

as a honest person i have something against your argument: it depends on people if it's easy to make someone sad because you're telling the truth you might be considered rude even tho you never wanted to hurt them you actually wanted to help ofc your experience is very diffrent from mine i guess you just met the wrong people who hide their rudness behind honesty, real honest people would never do that

Very good video in general. However, one point is a little misleading. Although I agree that raising voice should be managed, it is not necessarily an indicator of dishonesty. I know honest people who raise their voices (especially if having to defend against dishonesty)… and I know dishonest people who don’t raise their voices. In my view, it is not an accurate indicator

Completely agree with you. I've witnessed so many scenarios like that where an honest person raises his voice because he is facing injustice and then labelled as rude. Besides, so many dishonest people throw a blame into the middle and they are calm all of the sudden, which hides their Ill intentions. And this happens because honest people CARE. They care about what others are saying. Not because they have a kind of anger inside them for some people nor prejudice against them

Very true! I used to get very upset when my Narcissistic ex would lie and gaslight me. I would yell indignantly (in vain) to convince him of my truth and reality, while oblivious to the fact he's just trying to get a rise out of me. He'd enjoy feeding off of the negative energy and remain calm, while I flew off the handle every time. He would then label me as rude and crazy. Once I understood the narc's dynamic, I was able to turn the tables on him. By wearing my headphones and listening to positive stuff on youtube, and completely blocking out his negative talk, whilst applying the grey rock method when I had to communicate with him....it drove him completely bonkers that I stopped giving him importance, and he became the angry one, flying off the handle and shouting at me, while I remained calm and at peace. 😌✌🏻

The vulgarity I speak of comes, when people lash others with their oppinion with a complete disregard to whether that is even appropriate (either at the moment or generally, e.g. someone saying you shouldn't grieve someone "cause they were an arse" or they "were just an animal" comes readily to mind) and when their oppinion is pointed out as being rude or downright offensive, thay refuse to apologise because "they spoke the truth". Granted - those are extreme examples. Honesty is good, but it does need to be tempered, e.g. an inquiry whether something happened to a person who has gained significant weight is different than just going "you fat, do push-ups!" yet "honest" people very often choose the latter, because it is simpler.

I'm a very honest person.. I have 4 close friends I've known for over 10 years one over 20 years we all click really well. Any relationships I've had I can still talk them as friends even one I was married to for 12 years. I do speak the truth which can be harsh sometimes but I always say at the end of a conversation "I'm not trying to hurt you in anywhere it's just I'd rather be an honest person and tell the truth than than be a person who talks behind your back" and people do respect that. Like in the video though the only downside is it's really hard to find new friends in this world of fakery as I've found a lot of people choose to be fake rather than honest just to fit in with society.

Honesty is rare these days... everyone including me. Am I honest? I'm afraid not. There are instances I can recall that diverting from the truth and being honest seems to do a better job for that particular event. But I must say that I do try my best to be honest at every point. The peril of being an honest person lies in our dialogue with our inner selves. If I tell myself that I am an alcoholic and my inner self readily agrees, then I have to deal with the complexity that my inner self is also an enabling self. Believe me, I know whereof I speak.

19 out of 10. I've found that it's better to be brutally honest. It's usually when people listen to what I say, when they ask for my honesty. And even though I'm brutally honest, I can still tell the white lie, but I can count it with one hand when the year is over. For example, if I call the job and tell them that I'm sick, I'm exaggerating a bit if my symptoms are severe, but when I come back, I'm honest enough to say,that the reason I had the vomiting disease was because I was so mentally down with suicidal thoughts, that I could not get up to work.

I raise my tone throughout a conversation if I'm talking to someone who dominates a conversation and I want myself to be heard (not my most proud personality trait to be honest). This isn't because I'm being dishonest. Maybe other people lie when doing this but I wouldn't call it a dead giveaway. This, not having close friends, and not moving relaxed are not dishonesty issues but esteem issues.
@KDMor3
@KDMor3 2 жыл бұрын
Tbh I feel like raised voices are a natural response to domineering conversation/debate partners, rather than a personality trait. I do it too when against people who get loud. The key is whether or not your tone grows aggressive when things get heated. Shouting with a pointed tone, of whom's pitch varies wildly outside of natural inflection, that can lead to trouble. Leads to unintended implication or leaves space for the heated "opposition" to read too deep and accuse where there is nothing. But if the tone and inflection stay honest and withing the bounds of a "calm and factual" nature, then hell, both of you could tell till your throats give out, but at least tonally, you bring the iron defence. Unwavering and true. That, my friend, is what's the most important. You're not trying to overpower, you're trying to match. I match. It's all in how you do it. Keep true and dont believe in what you don't believe in. Truth exists, and it will rise and manifest where all lies fail. Never lose sight of that

Haven’t finished the video but heres one thing that makes me believe I am an honest person. *I absolutely suck at lying, most of the time when it’s an lie that would make others feel bad.* Whenever I am told to lie, I need time to prepare for the guilt, if I am suddenly asked a question where I have to lie, I would 1. sweat 2, “Uh, uhm.” 3. Internally fight over whether to lie or not. Even if the lie is something small, I still feel slightly guilty, but if the lie really gets someone else in trouble, for example blaming someone else, or not taking my part of the responsibility. I just can’t, I quietly mutter honesty even if the situation tells otherwise, even if someone else tells me it’s better to lie, I can’t go on through the day on my conscience that I wronged someone else and got away with it.
