Grow your woodworking business with "smalls"! Ready for the latest trends??? Let's break down some more builds and I'll also be showing you step by step of how to make the farmhouse calendar.
Often, smaller items are looked over by new builders looking to make a name for themselves because they are looking for "that one build" that they can sell for a ton of money. They aren't considering the cost of the build and the time spent making it. Ultimately any business comes down to profit margins. I'll give you a few examples of how selling items that anyone can afford can generate crazy sales with minimal cost of goods sold!
Sometimes we overthink things when the most profitable items we are looking past. Let's change that.

I think I would make the calendar wall mounted with the base being a shelf people could put little things in like seasonal items. People generally have more wall space than table or counter space so making it so that it can either sit on a shelf or hang on the wall makes it more versatile for the customers and potentially increasing sales for just a few pennies more.

You have most definitely encouraged me to start a hobby/side job as a retiree. I've been able to get my basic tools over the last few months and, where I live (Ark), free wood is readily available. My first project is going to be a gift but I will post it when I get done. Thanks for all your great advise which is much easier to follow than many other woodworkers on here. Have you ever watch DIY Woodworking Projects??? Dude is amazing!!

I made the jewelry holder prior to seeing this. I also had purchased the lazy susan. I will try and post a pic later - as I made one to hang my items for sale at different craft shows I attend. I also made it collapsible, so I can store it in-between shows. I have my first show of year coming up in a month and am trying to find some spring, outdoor, items to make as people are ready to get out of the house and see some nice weather (as snow is currently falling AGAIN here in Minnesota.) This is usually the biggest show of the year -besides Thanksgiving/Christmas time. Trying to find neat fast bird houses - bluebird houses. I think I might try and incorporate your hexagon tray and add the outdoor items to it. (Thank you for that!!) I learn so much from you and I am grateful I searched the right thing to have your channel pop up.

As someone who recently retired from commercial tree service business, i have made coasters from tree limbs. No staining, no finishing just 4 to 5in rounds cut about half inch thick. Sold a set of 100 for a wedding party for $200 but the customer gave me $100 tip because of short notice for the order.

I gotta say, you've really inspired me. I've been watching your videos for some time. I want to put my creativity to use and open my own garage/store. I have everything I need (tools, setup, etc.). My only roadblock is FEAR. Fear of someone mocking my work. I'm confident in what I do. I just don't want to waste my time. Sounds dumb, but I've always had this problem with putting my work on display, whether it's graphic design or whatever. I'm going to make a real push to start something special thanks to you.

I've been brainstorming for years to invent or at least come up with something that sells. been into woodworking for a looong time, I'm currently a finish carpenter nearing retirement age. I'm in the tedious process of building a new shop and it's finally getting close to where I can begin moving in tools. Just found your channel and subscribed immediately!!! Maybe I can finally find that one thing that sells enough to keep me going. Not looking to get rich, I just am gonna need a supplement to social security, if it's even still around in five or so years. Keep making the videos, we're out here watching! Peace and have a great day.

I literally got a 10'x10' tent I've been working in and need some small project ideas that don't involve ripping up 8' sheets of plywood in a 10' space like I'm doing for my current project 😅 thanks again!

Jason, I am using an 11ft x 11ft popup gazabo with tarps wrapped around the sides as walls, so I know where you are coming from. When I need to cut larger boards or plywood I setup sawhorse's outside (weather permitting) and then take the smaller parts into the SHOP. It is sometimes a pain but you can get things done if you have to. 😃

Matt, I don't do any woodworking, but I have followed you and you are very passionate about what you do and I hope those who watch learn from your work. Yes, everyone is going to think that you do things incorrectly. Well unless they do this for a living or have even tried to do this, I know it's also their right to leave negative remarks. So, I feel if you have to leave this person a negative remark then my question is if you can do it better then get off your ASS and go a video yourself. This man is trying to show those who may not have any working skills that it is possible to learn. I feel Matt Your A Great Person and Mentor.

Looking at the "old" wood cross got me to thinking about all the piles of discarded fence boards you can find for free on offer up. A couple gallons of gas in your pickup, and an hour or so of time will get you the material to build 20-30 of those crosses, and a ton of birdhouse boards...or whatever. I keep a pile of that stuff around, and search offer up a couple times a year for more. Even if the boards you find are totally rotted, you get a weekends worth of fodder for your fire pit 😉

I made one of the calendars from a picture I saw, but in mine I built it all out of scrap wood I had. It made a great Christmas gift

Matthew, thanks for the great content once again! I check every day to see if you’ve loaded any new projects. I’m currently making your clinic tables. I made the first one with my grandsons and they loved it, and are actually using it in their chicken pen. Would love to show you a pic of chickens eating off of it. Now I’m starting to make them for a local craft store on consignment. We will see how they sell. Keep sharing your projects and plans. Thank you and God bless!!
