While I am surprised that Dodge is on his list, my Challenger had no issues during the short time I had it before I traded it for a Durango. I honestly believe the health of the car is dependent on how well the owner takes care of it. If he or she babies it and does the routine maintenance, the car will last for a long time. However, lengthy negligence can ruin a car very quickly. As a car guy, I treat my vehicles with the upmost care as they are investments.

02 6th gen Honda Accord with 302,000 miles and both engine and transmission still work good. Those 2.3 liter vtech engines are very well built, and will last as long as you maintain it and not abuse it.

There is no way a Challenger would make it that long. Many of them have idiotic owners who will total them within 10,000 miles. If the car survives that long, the mechanical problems will kill it.

I have a sxt v6 2015 Dodge Challenger. I purchased it in 2015 for 33k (brand new with 7 miles on it . The car is now paid off. I have a whopping 150k miles on the car currently. I have never had an engine or transmission issue. Only thing I did was get my oil change on time and keep my engine filter’s cleaned and purchased a new battery and did a tuneup once I reach a 100k mikes in 2020. Other then that I have not had an issue with the Dodge Challenger v6 ... I promise to god . It a great reliable car ... holds up like a Honda Civic, if you ask me.

Fam had a 2006 Gen V Golf TDI so 1.9l diesel. Did over 800,000kms with no issues only gotten rid of as it hit it's 4th Kangaroo. Family also had a mid 80s Nissan Patrol 6cyl diesel. The odometer broke so we dont know the exact number but it is presumed it has done OVER 1 MILLION kms. The Body had started to rust sooner than the car had any real issues. Sold it to our next door neighbour who fixed up the body and it is still going strong, makes dad sad seeing it.

Not to put Honda down, but several model years with K24 4-cylinder engines have an issue with the VVT actuator that regulates the intake cam advance for the VTEC system. The issue causes a notorious rattling sound during cold starts and progresses toward rattling louder and even during hot starts. The rattling happens when the actuator loses all of its engine oil (which it uses as hydraulic fluid) and fails to remain locked during startup/idle and the vanes regulating the intake cam advance are jounced back and forth from one positional extreme to the other inside the actuator casing many times per second. Many owners have rationalized incorrectly that the problem is only transient and annoying at worst and that they can safely ignore it. The rattling causes rapidly repeating shockwaves to travel back from the VVT actuator into the timing chain, thus causing premature wear and elongation of the timing chain. Many dealerships and independent mechanics only replace the VVT actuator but more often than not the timing chain is elongated out of spec and needs to be replaced along with the actuator (for which there is an updated part to address the issue), as well as an updated VVT solenoid to help retain engine oil in the updated actuator. Not repairing the issue places the engine at significant risk of skipping timing and possible piston slap.(I fixed mine but an acquaintance lost theirs to piston slap because they thought the issue didn't matter.)
