problem with carollas is finding a good stick...my '97 automatic is gutless and gets poor gas mileage, but it did make it to 190k before the first 4 digit repair job and has done well since... civics have always been good to me and they never lack for power, I can't think of a better car value for safety+reliability+responsiveness+economy...however buying them used can be tricky because a lot of people abuse them (I've seen the same issue is pretty common here with acura legends) the 1990 accord ran great and was still running great near 300k, minus a few starter issues, but had those annoying automatic drink dumpers that go back and forth every time you turn the key or open or close your door...which forced the move to a 1999 accord which is still moving right along with 365k after some 4 digit transmission and starter work 10 years ago... my favorite car was my '83 accord, which got 35 to 38 mpg and ran so smooth I had to really watch because a couple times on straight portions of isolated freeway crossing the country I thought I was doing 75 and I may have been well into the three digits...it stopped running so well to the day california came out with their unique gas formulation and the mileage instantly dropped into the mid 20s (but I drove it in other states and it miraculously drove better and got 35+)

@@Doing_Time I think i am "stuck" with my camry for a while. my parents bought new and kept them for a long time. the camry will do the same. nicest car i ever owned. bought it used 07 camry in 2018 with 106k miles and put 32k on it. it had some repairs. new water pump. alt. batt.valve cover gasket. powersteering line replaced. needs sunroof motor. needs driver side regulator. but on the whole, it has been pretty good. if anything happens, will buy a toyota or honda. noting else.

Yep, mine lasted a good 250k. No major issues and handled the snow awesome. Not like my subaru but it made its way through.

paul 07 se with `144k. I have had to replace things surprisingly. after 120k, water pump, fuel pump, front bearings. lower control arms are going. I drive in ny/nj. that may be a reason.

I have the same car with the 2.4L with 280K on the clock. Other than the common engine oil consumption issue, the car still runs perfect and everything works like it should. I'm retired and mechanically inclined, so if the oil consumption gets out of hand, I'll just drop a new piston and ring kit in it and keep it until someone wrecks it or I die. Best car ever.

And on my previous vehicle, changing the spark plugs was very easy. I would have learned how to change my own oil, but I don't have a jack that can get my car high enough for me to get under it.

there are 2 type of vehicle owners, One that buys a car based on reviews and reliability but never actually maintain it at all if ever. And the second are vehicle owners that buy a vehicle regardless the make but properly maintain the vehicle when needed be. The second car owner can have a garbage car but its still in better shape than the 1st owner that has a new toyota but never maintained it for 3+ years and counting. Thereby the second car owner has longer use of his or her buy, and the 1st owner is looking for another new car to trash.

@@notmebutyou8350 But not many of ANYTHING else. Hyundai and Kia have long warranties on them that from what I have heard are never honored if there is an issue. They always find some way to wiggle out of fixing the problem under warranty and blame it on the owner of the vehicle for not doing proper maintenance. Chevy, ford and dodge are all junk and wont go past 150k miles without major issues and repairs, 100% going to have to replace that AC unit before 150k if you live here in Texas and it's going to cost you at least $2k if it's not under warranty. Anything Stellantis makes (Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Ram) avoid like the plague. And don't buy any Honda/Acura 1.5l turbo engines unless you want headaches down the line due to oil dilution issues, better to buy the 2.0l non turbo NA engine for longevity.

I love my 08 civic EX. 115k miles and never had any issues outside of regular maintenance (Spark plugs, Ignition coils, Oil + filter, tires, brakes, battery and ground cable) The automatic transmission has always felt wonky though and it rarely shifts very smoothly... engine is bulletproof though! Mine was totaled 6 years ago, I just bent the axle back into alignment and keep driving it haha.

2012-2015 honda civic are good as well 2016 to present have to much tech.

I think the only problem with Civics have been those owners who think they are Fast and Furious.

after honda started putting everything cvt is when I just left it out of my shopping list. Their non cvt transmissions are amazing none the less

I had a 2009 civic hybrid. Perfect car, except for the IMA battery, that failed a couple of times. Traded it in with a full spec 2005 accord exe (euro / CL7), 5 years ago. Absolutely love that old car still. Wouldn't trade it for any Merc, Audi or BMW from that era.

From all accounts, that's a rarity. The presenter based his analysis on the percentage of cars sold with high mileage. Hyundai and Kia are notorious for having bad engines, even to the point of having mass recalls of ALL models within specific years.

You should call Hyundai and let them know. Bet they will be surprised. If your information is accurate- you have a RARE example. Hyundais' and Kias go through engines like nobody's business. Glad to hear you got great service from yours- I'll never own either of those again.

I currently have a 2008 Hyundai accent hatchback manual transmission going super strong at 140k miles. I got it as a gift back in 2020. It’s the second most reliable car that I’ve own. I’ve only had to replace a purge valve up to this point with regular oil/filter changes.

I have a 2001 Toyota 4 runner with over 200,000 miles and still going strong I would recommend Toyota vehicles any day they are built to last as long as you keep up the maintenance on it. Changing a timing belt is not a preventive maintenance. It is mandatory... And you should normally change it at 100 000 kms (60 000 miles). Changing it at 145 000 miles and not blowing the engine up (if it is true) has little to do with the car itself, and everything to do with luck. Because 99 % of OEM timing belts used in any kind of car nowadays are made at the same place in Mexico.

@@jbjumpkin6611 the starter is original, the alternator was replaced last fall. Serpentine belt changed with the alternator. On my second clutch, almost all highway driving.

The 1.8L is the better engine. I have a 2006 Matrix XR that I bought new. It only has 72K miles on it, but it has survived 17 Chicago winters with zero rust. Had major suspension repairs done last year - urban roads are brutal, but my mechanic said that because it is a Matrix, a $3K repair bill beats replacing it. I'm 75 and plan to drive it until I am in an urn.

I got 276,800 out of my 1992 Dodge Shadow America with the 2.2 liter 4 cylinder engine . I used non-synthetic Pennzoil 10w30 oil changed every 3000 miles . After the first head gasket blew at 126,000 miles, I had to change the head gasket and stretch bolts every 60,00 miles . I scrapped it when the unibody was rusting out above the rear subframe .
