The NBA has held the All Star game in New Orleans 3 times in less than 10 years. The NBA could care less what the arena looks like aesthetically. The Superdome is 50 years old. New Orleans is a major tourist attraction. They don’t need new stadiums to attract major sports events.

The Cox Convention Center Arena (better known as the Myriad Arena) across the street from the Paycom Center was a 16,000 seat arena for 15+ years before a movie studio took over the building. It successfully hosted several Big 12 basketball tournament games for the women simultaneous to the men's tournament at the Paycom Center. Delta Center probably will be longer than five or six years. Salt Lake City is gunning for the 2034 Olympics, so it could be like what Atlanta had in `96, where Fulton County Stadium existed until `96 and was around at the same time as Turner Field for the Olympics, before getting knocked down after the Games.

Be careful before you demolish an Arena. Believe it or not Oracle Arena in Oakland, where the Warriors used to play is more profitable now than it was when the Warriors were there. Why? Because the city filled those dates with concerts, comedy show, Disney on ice, rodeo shows, etc. and they get to keep all the money. I’ve attended a number of concerts there since the Warriors left.

You couldn’t be more wrong about the Delta Center. It’s the best arena in the NBA for an actual basketball watching experience and has been the biggest home court advantage in the NBA for 30 years. No one in SLC wants it demolished. Truthfully no one even wants a hockey team.
@retrowarehouse2554
@retrowarehouse2554 Ай бұрын
That doesn't matter when it comes to building arenas, business takes precedence over an experience. Most arenas are not going to be around forever. Utah can still get the same experience in a new building. There's nothing wrong with the building itself, but the hockey team will bring in a lot of money to the city and more money to the Jazz. You a lie about the interest in the new hockey team. People in Utah are stoked about it. Plus Salt Lake is trying to get the Winter Olympics back in 2032, so they need a new building for that anyways.
@OfficerPolynice
@OfficerPolynice Ай бұрын
@@retrowarehouse2554 The Delta Center was built by the Jazz’s previous owner with his own money. It was entirely 100% built for basketball. It wasn’t built for concerts. It wasn’t built for hockey. It’s more like a college basketball arena that seats 19,000. The experience will absolutely not be the same in some giant arena built for hockey, too. And if the voters in SLC had a voting referendum on a new arena for a hockey team - which they did not - it would 100% fail. I would be surprised if it even got 35% votes in favor. The huge tax increase only affects the people in SLC. So who cares if people outside the city are excited for it. They are not on the hook for almost a billion dollars.
@retrowarehouse2554
@retrowarehouse2554 Ай бұрын
@@OfficerPolynice That's why they're building a new arena because they need to be able to fit a hockey rink into it plus this was likely going to happen anyways without a new NHL team since the city is trying to get the Winter Olympics back in town for the 2032 or 2036 games. SLC was going to be on the hook for a new or the Olympics, so there was no escaping that tax bill. The good thing about sports that money is always put back into the city. Cities are always better off with major pro sports teams than without. Utah has enough money to support an MLB team and that's coming too, so get ready for that as SLC is not going to be just a Jazz town anymore.
