Here are 7 Pumpkin Carving Mistakes and how to correct them.First - not washing the outside of the pumpkin with a solution of vinegar and water. This will kill any mold that is beginning to grow on the outside which will help your pumpkin last longer. Second - this one is all over the internet but in case you missed it, instead of using spoons and your hands to get the guts out, try using a handheld mixer, it cuts the time in half! Third - not cutting a hole big enough in the top of your pumpkin for the mixer to fit inside. Grab a bowl, that you know your mixer fits in and use it to trace your cut. Which brings me to number 4, not using a dry erase marker to draft your design. Dry erase is much more forgiving with mistakes than sharpies and pens. With a little cloth and water, you can erase any lines you don’t want. Number 5 - not making a V shaped notch in the lid of your pumpkin so you know exactly how the top fits without having to spin it a bunch of times. Six - not using olive oil around your cuts to prevent drying out. And finally number seven - instead of using a candle, which makes your pumpkin go bad quicker, try using an LED light. I don't agree with the time-saving ones, because it's more about the experience. I'm in high school, and have so many Halloween traditions with my family left. I want to savor every second. :)

Great advice for when you wanna keep your nice design looking good, but I love going for spooky faces, that age well as in the rot makes them look cooler, I just put some clingfilm underneath for easy removal 😆

8 cut the hole at the bottom instead of the top it makes it look better. If you have trouble doing this put the pumpkin in a bowl to keep it steady

Try drafting a design on paper instead of using markers on the pumpkin, and to transfer it tape the paper to the pumpkin and poke holes along the design, the holes will make it easier to cut into the pumpkin.

Also, DO use spoons if you cook the seeds, a hand helf blender could break the seens. And 100% keep to spoons if you have kids, a blender would completely ruin the fun.

I don’t think it costs that much to get reusable lights and make them look nicer, these are just suggestions for a decoration, some kids don’t like getting messy and would prefer an easier set up

I think there’s no mistakes to something like carving a pumpkin or anything, some people don’t have an electric mixer or they prefer to do it by hand and using a dry erase marker is hard to work around while holding it comfortably

nice but i prob wouldn’t cut my pumpkin lid that big even if it’s for a mixer to fit, my sister cut the top of her pumpkin two times smaller than that and the mixer fit

One thing is that her tips are good, they will make the fun experience more bland. One of the best parts is getting ur hands dirty, but the rest are good, especially the notch on the lid

Cleaning out the inside of a pumpkin is no fun for me. Vaseline on the cut edges is good, also putting plastic wrap over the cut design and loosely cover the hole with plastic wrap and put the top on it. Then place the JOL in the refrigerator until you’re going to use it again extends the life, especially where October can still be hot (like in Florida).

Sharpies work really well! I just used one this year and I made a LOT of mistakes, but I just used an alcohol wipe and it came right off (If my memory serves me right, water and a paper towel/rag also work)

Should add 1 more to it. Don’t cut the top of the pumpkin, cut from the bottom because it helps prevent the sides from caving in later.

Or alternatively you can just be fast enough and efficient enough to remove all the pumpkin guts cause it's way easier than using up half your pumpkin to create the hole
