Visually GSPs are the perfect dog. You give good advice. These dogs become depressed if they don't get exercise and quality time with their people. They are super smart, high-energy, and goofy.

Have two GSPs. Adore them. Beautiful, intelligent, incredibly engaging and biddable if you know what you’re doing. Older one a scent dog who ran marathons, young boy amazing at agility. So many people stop me and ask “what kind of dog is that? It’s so beautiful” And I start telling them why they shouldn’t get one. Not the dog for everyone. But def the dog for me 😊

Owned and bred them since 1973. I have said these 7 points and more to talk people out of buying. However in Australia today the breed has been slowly 'detuned' to the point ehere the hunting sharp ness has all but gone. Having said that...imho....❤As with cattle and sheep working dogs nobody from a standard suburban home should be allowed to keep them.

if you work, you just have to make sure to give them a proper play before leaving for work. they will be good then

My GSP becomes possessed when small animals are seen. Leashes are required.

I thoroughly agree with everything you have said. I have had three GSP’s. They are wonderful dogs: intelligent, easy to train and very affectionate. They are also very handsome dogs. However…….. they run on rocket fuel. If you haven’t the time or the inclination to give them vigorous exercise EVERY DAY, they will wreck your house and your life.

Point 1* should be : "IF YOU DONT NEED THEM TO WORK" YOU SHOULD NOT GET ONE !!!!! There is a good reason why in Germany you only can get such a dog if you are a hunter and got the license ! I love these dogs ! but its not all a simple companion dog , som please let these great dogs work/hunt ! Greets from Germany

I use to have one as a kid. My dad would work her to death 😂 we would be on mountain bikes riding through the desert if Arizona. She would come home and flop on the floor and sleep

I read something that made the penny drop they don’t like being without their pack they feel uncomfortable and jittery. It’s like how Horses don’t like being alone they are content with the herd.
