This is the most famous form within the 7-Star Praying Mantis style. Starting with the signature mantis hook technique, it is not well known for it's uses. Many believe it is a 'sting' to an opponent's eye, which is not correct. Instead, it is a technique to immobilize an attacker by quickly grabbing onto their arm at the wrist (the hook) and then using the other hand to press back on their shoulder. With a sudden force, you can separate or dislocate a person's shoulder, rendering them lame in that arm and therefore, allowing a safe escape.
Background: This style of kung-fu is from Northern Shaolin, called 7-Star Praying Mantis Kung-Fu. It is a traditional Chinese mixed martial art comprised of 18 ancient kung-fu styles from China, created over 300 years ago by a legendary Shaolin Monk by the name of Wang Lang. Today, the style of 7-Star Praying Mantis has spread globally-- predominantly to the rest of Asia, Europe, and to North America.
