A CURIOUS MIND

We live in a world filled with constant competition, and it's easy to get caught up in the need to constantly be comparing ourselves to others and striving to be the best.
While many people are able to recognize their own abilities and not allow the achievements of others to define them, some struggle with constant competition within themselves.
What happens if you feel a perpetual need to assert your excellence? Or, if a battle rages on between your true identity and how you appear in comparison to others?
If you feel the need to devalue others in order to feel more assured in yourself, this could be one of the signs of a superiority complex.

I Know A Couple Of People With This Complex.... This One Guy, Is So Dam Disagreeable It's Unreal. He Has To Be The Brightest In The Room, He Has No Respect For Ideas And Perspectives Other Than His Own, He Gets Highly Upset When People Stand Firm In Their Views.... He Knows Everything.... Has A Exaggerated Sense Of Self Worth.... He Hates When Others Receive Compliments In His Presence. This Guy Is A True Character And I Know Where His Insecurities Stem From.

I have a friend who might have a superiority complex, inferiority complex or a mix. Cant really differentiate… From a very young age he had parents who constantly talked down things he liked doing. His parents didnt approve of him watching cartoons or playing video games, which up to this day are big hobbies of his. Ive been observing this behaviour in him ever since I know him. Ususally, he is a very comfortable person to be around and you can have really nice discussions, conversations and good laughs with him. But once in a while he will express strong disbelief towards things I say. Very mundaine things mind you. For example, a wasp queen flew into my house and I killed it. Later I said „boy that wasp queen was annoying“ to which he responded „that wasnt a wasp queen“. Then we had a tiny argument over this. I knew for sure it was a wasp queen, but he just didnt want to believe me. Even with things he doesnt know anything about: He has never owned a Nintendo console, yet he tried lecturing me about this. (Im a huge Nintendo fan) Another thing he does is undermining things that he doesnt care about or feel interested in. I tell him about this comic I really enjoyed reading, give him a brief summary of the plot and his response is „Ah yea, basically every sci-fi story ever“. He even does this with things he knows I love. He will sometimes not hold back talking down on them. These two behaviours feel so detached from the rest of his otherwise calm and friendly personality. Sometimes I dont know how to respond so I either say nothing or just tell him „yea ok, you are right“.

I looked this up on KZfaq to get a better understanding of myself and unfortunately I see a lot of myself in your friend you described. I’m an easy going person but when I disagree with people it’s rare that I submit to a fruitful conversation- I can be very stubborn and oftentimes view myself as better than some people but all in all I suffer with extreme sadness and feel horrible about myself- it’s a very weird pair. I believe I have both or maybe im so insecure that I’ve groomed myself into trying to have a good mindset but all the while it’s nothing more than a facade. I also grew up with very overly critical parents.

@@73aven Glad I could help you to self reflect a little. That's a first and important step. I highly recommend seeing a therapist for stuff like this though. I'm going to start therapy soon and I'm honestly excited about it. Finally, I'll have someone to share my cumulative thought processes with and help me analyze them/learn from them. And hopefully they can help me to figure out my own patterns that keep me trapped in life situations I'm unhappy with.

I have a friend or at least used to. This friend got rich quick doing scams online at a young age and eventually got kicked out if his home when his parents found out about it and took all his money away. I let him stay in my place for a few months which probably was a mistake now that I think about it. I think he lives alone now at least he says he does. Recently whenever I text him he eventually goes off on how I don’t have any money and that I still live with my parents and just toxic shit like that. Most recently he told me how I even have the nerve to try to talk to him when I haven’t accomplished anything I’m my life. Which isn’t far from the truth but mind you we’re both 18 and im pretty confident in where my life is going and im definitely in no rush. When he said that to me I felt hurt though yk cuz why wouldn’t you. like I’ve smoked n chilled with this dude since we were in middle school and now he’s belittling me so that he could feel better about himself like bruh. Anyways I told him he was weird and left him on delivered lmao. I just worry about all the bad karma he’s accumulated in his life from doing what he does and how it might effect him later on in life. But what can you do right.

When the mask breaks, it is like being extremely angry, sad, scared and confused at the same time. While it might be fun for you, it is by far the worst thing that can happen to yourself. It is not like we want to hurt others in any way, we think everyone wants to hurt us. That's why we act, how we act.

Feeling the need to devalue others to prop oneself up is a sign of inferiority complex, not superiority. People who have superiority complex actually put the self down and hide their talents and potential because they fear it will affect others negatively and therefore be cast out from their social group whether that's family or peer group.

it is superiority complex but it's a paradox, true, they feel deep sense of inferiority, but they act superior which can have negative impact on the victim.
@mamasworldview
@mamasworldview 2 жыл бұрын
@@jugg9140 I disagree. Superiority complex stems from fear of rejection for being better, talented, smarter than others so they actually devalue themselves and hide their goodness. These people were sometimes abused or bullied for their goodness. People with this complex tend to be underachievers. Inferiority complex is when a person feels they are inadequate and fears rejection from this so they devalue others to artificially prop themselves up. They also tend to be overachievers and have a need to prove how smart/good/talented they are to stave off these feeling of inferiority. Both come from fear of rejection.
@jugg9140

@@mamasworldview but you are right you just point out what i said about paradox, people who feel superior dont actually feel fear, like upfront, lets say their are two minds, one is the upfront feeling that you feel right away which is external, not deep, they dont feel fear in the that place, actually they feel really really good about themselves, dopamine rushing like cum, but the paradox is in their subconscious mind the deeper one, where they actually reason they are smart enough to know that they actually are inferior, but certainly they dont feel inferior upfront.

That is very true, we live in a world where everyone highly overestimates their own ability's to do things and solve problems in their own life which prevents people from correcting their mistakes and actually learning how to solve problems. A man who admits he is wrong thousands of times over is just about as valuable of a man as you can find.

This is not superiority complex, this is inferiority. Inferiority complex is when you feel inadequate and act out in as arrogant to make up for it. Superiority complex is when you feel superior internally but act out in inferior ways.
