Just FYI you can cancel the service the day you buy it and it will stay active up until day of cancellation

You can cancel the subscription anytime and it will not auto bill, but remains active for the full year. Also it is on sale for $799. Also use an HDMI cable and you can double screen to your 60” tv. Also there is a way to hack the tablet to use other apps :)

We tackled assembling the bike as a family project. kzfaq.infoUgkxzg0clhbtRf2gGxPkVETFKJJKGqdsorQu The package is heavy, but I have 2 teen boys that were able to move it. The written instructions were great- we didn't need to watch the videos, but it was good knowing that the option was there if we needed it. After we were able to get it set up, the boys each rode 3 miles and I rode 8 and the bike stayed quiet. The display is easy to reset, and you can put it on whichever setting you are using (time, distance, calories, etc). I will say that my butt is a little sore from the seat, but that could be because I haven't rode in a while. While it is comfortable for me, it was not comfortable with the seat position for my friend (could not move the seat back far enough and he slightly looked like a kid riding a tricycle that he had outgrown). He also said that the seat hurt his manly parts. We are going to look for a different seat that will be compatible with this bike for him.I did purchase the Wahoo Cadence sensor and strapped it to the crank of one of the pedals. This will sync with my Apple Watch, iPhone and will import data in to my Health app. Wahoo does have other sensors available other than cadence. I can also keep either my phone or my iPad on the display and they both feel pretty secure.

Just purchased a EX-4s+ at Costco for $499USD. It looks like the + (plus) version has upgraded to the better handlebars and a somewhat bigger screen (15.9"). The price is really what sold me. $300 off until around January 20, 2023. Normal price is $799. Thanks for the video!

Always use prepaid credit cards with a few cents left on them to use in situations like this. You won't have to remember to cancel.

Some companies have learned about this practice and they charge a hold to the card to ensure funds will be available. I used to do this with my nearly empty cards and have seen an increase in companies refusing to accept them.

I purchased the costco version and returned it after a few rides. (mainly due to the resistance being directly tied the tablet. If the tablet dies your bike no longer works). I tried to cancel the membership since I returned the bike and it still gave me the remaining 12 months free. It allowed me to cancel the auto bill but keep the free 12 month trial.

Wait, is the tension controlled by the app? It says it's not but I just got mine and it's not working... I have yet to sign up for the trial because I don't want to waste the trial if the bike isn't even working?

You're essentially paying $600 for the EX-4S when you consider you get $400 membership included. $600 for a high quality bike ($40 off with executive membership and use Costco Citi Card). It will probably fall short of expectations of Peloton users, but it the real cost is 5 times less. For recreational users like me, it's perfect. The community is good and the class leaders and live options are really good too. Again, if I were a hardcore spinner, I'd probably get the Peloton, but I'm doing two 30-minute rides a day and really like it.

@@Thara0173 it was discounted at all of our Costco’s here in the Salt Lake area. It might have just been one of those two-week specials they often run. As long as these are in stock I’m sure the discount will be back. I recommend keep you eye on it! Good luck!

You must be an important dude because I just received a 4s for Christmas and the screen is much larger, no lag, and the handle bars are thicker than on your demo bike. Good job!! Lol

I agree, they should have named it the 4s +tailhappy fixes - fore-aft handlebar movement too, bigger but not huge monitor and it does only do the over the top flip (but this one does have an HDMI port, so there are some potential easier hacks, but that isn't my thing). I have to agree they seem to have addressed most of the things you didn't like (although I can hear the motor moving the resistance on mine which seems odd for it otherwise being so quiet, curious if it is just mine). Thanks for all your reviews, they are truly amazing.

Keiser M3i FTW :) Returned my EX4s to Costco due to several of these issues. Handle bars had to go because they are just too skinny to feel right, plus the weird texture is not very comfortable and attracts dirt/sweat? Handlebar comfort isn’t a little thing either, as it is your main connection to the bike really. I feel like the handlebars have to be right. Then there was a huge delay in resistance changes (really bad), needed bike shorts to be able to tolerate the seat, and I MUCH prefer an open platform. You’re dead-on about the drivetrain tho. Very quiet & smooth. It is so nice I almost regretted returning it. Until I got my Keiser set up that is! Wider, firm seat, instant resistance change (that lever!), open platform with native Zwift compatibility and tablet holder, incredible handlebars, and easily adjustable in every way. My wife immediately offered that the Keiser is far easier to make adjustments to as well, and I agree. It’s many times over the better bike.

@@kyleshearer1270 For sure. Only there is no $40 monthly fee tho. But you’re right in that it’s twice the price. I probably should have acknowledged that in my comment. But I can’t remember the last time I felt so good about a purchase, so I felt a strong urge to share my thoughts. I wish there was a way I could post pics here to show what it was like just to unbox the Keiser. And since they’re made here in the USA it shipped fast. I received mine within a week of ordering! As a comparison, our friends ordered their Peloton over six weeks ago and are still waiting (heck - I’ve lost nearly 20 lbs in that time!). If “Made in USA” means this much quality difference and support, it’s all very much worth the $$ for me. Plus it’s a real joy to ride. But where I’m coming from is, I don’t mind spending a lot for our home gym. I’m 57 years old now and have seen a lot of people buy this kind of stuff on-the-cheap over the years, only to end up hardly using it and then giving it away at some garage sale or even tossing it in the garbage. My intention is to do this well, and continue making lifestyle changes that will add a healthier quality to the future me. 2020 was an eye opener for many of us, and my wife & I aren’t looking back. I feel like the choices we make here are decidedly influential in that. The Peloton looks like a great option too. Really great stuff. But I just absolutely thrive on the freedom to choose my workout app options!

I purchased the EX-4s recently (in part based on your review) and I have not experienced the lag that you mention when it comes to cadence. I did have to install an update right away when I set up the bike, so maybe they've improved it? Thanks for all you do!

TrailHappy - thanks for making these spin bike reviews. You do an awesome job and I have viewed them all. However, I do feel your review of the Echelon EX4S is a bit too critical. I have this bike and I am very impressed with the build quality and I feel it offers incredible value. I do not have the lag issues you describe and I am wondering if you need to update the software on the bike or the app. My wife and I are both on the shorter side and we find the adjustability this bike offers works very well for us. This bike is keeping us sane locked down in snowy cold Toronto. Thanks again.

Pro tip: if you cancel your trial membership immediately after signing up, it still lasts till year end of the year. Confirmed this with echelon customer service and did it myself. Works. No need to remember to cancel.

I really appreciate your clear, well spoken reviews. I've watched many of your videos and appreciate the time and attention that you give each one. One detail that I think you're overlooking, or at least not mentioning in any of your reviews, relates to these bikes with built-on screens, and their optional ability (or not) to pair Bluetooth headphones/earbuds. Example - you mention the EX-4S has a headphone jack. Great. Who uses headphones with wires anymore? For me, personally, it's been years since I've plugged headphones into a headphone jack (an unplanned "emergency" when my regular BT earphones died, had to dig deep in my car console to find some old earbuds...with wires). I will strike the Costco EX-4S off my "want" list for the simple reason that it "forces" me to deal with a limited use, single-purpose, probably non-BT-compatible screen. I will, instead, keep an eye out for a deal on the EX-5 (not 5S), and gladly "BYOT." Thanks, again, for the great reviews! #fan

I feel like most bikes that come with a screen immediately narrow the options of the consumer and can actually hurt the overall experience of the rider..ie poor speakers, small screen. When I ride i sweat profusely, any bike that comes with a screen I'm afraid will detect my drop of sweat as an errant touch.

Many of those bikes you have are used by people on the Peloton app. I think many of your viewers would like to know how many turns on their bikes resistance knob would equal 30,40,50,etc. percent on the Peloton bike.

"If you forget to cancel" - You can cancel the renewal at ANY time, so that could be 1 day after you sign up and your current subscription will continue for the year until expiry. Why do you "hate" that ? I commented on your 'lag' issue on the other video :-)

I have been trying to talk myself into keeping the EX4S from Costco. I like that I can use my big iPad on an EX3 though and not have the dedicated small screen. My question is, is the motor in the EX4S the same as the EX5? I called their customer service and the lady told me that was the case but she did not sound very sure. She said the newer motor is a bit quicker and more accurate to adjust to resistance. Thanks!

Yeah, the Echelon screen does nothing for me and they (normally) charge an absurd amount extra for it. The Sport-S with just the added screen, is $300 more MSRP than the Sport! In fact, it's more of a hinderance TBH. It's locked down to the Echelon App only (despite probably being a generic android tablet under the hood). If I used a separate phone/tablet I could run other apps in parallel with the Echelon android app. Also, this thing barging in and hogging the machine when you power up is more of a pain than it is worth. If you're trying to use other apps like Zwift you have to do a finely timed power on dance to stop the Echelon tablet taking over. I think Walmart has realized this. At the time of writing (July 2023), Walmart is actually selling the Sport-S for $100 LESS than the Sport ($400 vs $500)!!! So they're actually dumping the "upgraded" product for less (I expect they had a warehouse full of the $800 MSRP Sport-S not moving)

I wonder if there is a lag in metrics with the EX-5S or 7S since they have the built-in screen. The tablet looks a little awkward on the bike as well. Is the tablet open platform? Can you use any other apps on it? Great video.

Hey Matt! I love my EX4S but unfortunately I’m on bike number 3 in a month. I’m curious if you’ve had any issues with yours? Bike #3 is a week old and is now experiencing the same issue as bike #2. The bike is making a crunching/crinkling sound like there is debris in the pulley mechanism. Echelon is sending a new belt and pulley. I’m really hoping this will correct this issue as I simply can’t justify exchanging for a 4th bike. Bikes were basically silent and then all of sudden they develop this noise. I have a video of the issue if you’re curious.

Starting to think my ex4s purchase might have been the wrong one...if the screen dies, is the bike dead? I can see myself in a situation 2 years from now where the screen dies and Echelon is no longer supporting this model and then I am up shit creek without a paddle?

My husband just bought me the Echelon Connect EX-4s+ with the 15 inch built in screen from Costco for Christmas. It is great that it comes with a 1 year free Echelon app but what happens after that? I am a senior and will only be freestyle riding easy (classes are overwhelming and intimidating). Will my $1000 bike work (track miles and time) without paying for the expensive app? Will the screen just be a dead brick? Is it possible to connect the screen to other KZfaq workouts?

You’ll still be able to freeride without a subscription. You can’t watch KZfaq videos on the echelon screen, but could watch on your phone/tablet or TV while using the bike.

PLEASE HELP with your input (I won’t hold you to it... I know it’s an “opinion”) - I’m in my mid to late 40’s - Loosing weight, but a bit overweight - I’m 5’6” and 200 lbs - Torn ACL & MCL from snowboarding so I can’t do impact sports (running) - I’m looking for first bike and I’m between: * Echelon EX-4S (New Costco version... currently $799 on sale) * Peloton (older & used on OfferUp) * Keiser M3i or M3 (depends what I find good deal on OfferUp) * Pro Form Tour De France (the REAL high end one and not lower end Amazon versions) * BowFlex or NordiTrack (some on OfferUp, but my last choices) + many other Magnetic versions on Amazon with good ratings but under $400 (which makes me wonder if they’re any good) Which one would you recommend?

Thanks for the info. Would it be possible to confirm what is the highest wattage the 4s+ can go to? I don't have this unit but have had the e3 and connect. Neither could get anywhere above 400W. The resistance is quite low. Curious if perhaps 4s+ has better resistance.

My guess is it’d be the same drivetrain among all these echelon rear flywheel setups. I’d recommend checking out my stryde review or the nordictrack s22i for a higher resistance

Hate the uk market. The ex3 is £1600 ($2200) with 1 Yr subscription. Almost triple the price and less features.

The $500 Sport/Prime/EX-15 has little to no lag. I assume it's the same with the EX-5 and EX-3.

These are relatively minor issues. Especially the lag time thing. I would never use a built in screen. Always use your own ipad. All the metrics work better with Apple. Speakers? Who uses speakers? Get some headphones like a normal person. jk
