Today we have another instalment of a long-term owner's review of the 2023 Mazda CX-50. Now I love my CX-50, have been an owner since November of last year and I'm being super nit-picky here. But I do have some minor complaints as I want to be consistent with every car review and be as critical with this vehicle that I would be with any other on this channel. Let me know what you think about the 7 things I hate about the Mazda CX-50!

Good honest review, mostly aesthetics. I own one and find the brakes to be a lot tighter and responsive than my old vehicle (Honda). Also, I am a bit older than you and was taught how to accelerate a 4 cyl. engine. When they first came out, many moons ago, I was taught to slowly and steadily increase pressure on the accelerator and the engine will respond much better than mashing it down quickly, especially when coming out of a turn. That's how I drive mine and have no problem with the inherent hesitation that other drivers encounter and complain about. Ya want quick acceleration, get a v-6 but you'll sacrifice mpg. Also, you can switch between sport and normal driving modes with the tap of the toggle switch. I usually drive in sport mode when driving at or under 25-30 mph, bump it back to normal when driving above. Makes me feel like I'm "actively" driving my car. If you are carrying on conversations with passengers or talking on your cell, your attention is not focused on driving and can lead to accidents, tickets or to you being the recipient of a road rage incident. Best wishes.

Hey! I love your videos and wanted to ask if you'll consider doing a review of the '24 CX-50? I see them in transit to a lot of dealers around me, and I know they're advertising new dampers and retuned steering for 2024. One thing to note is that, Mazda USA has said that the new dampers and steering are not coming to the 24 model until late November, whereas my dealer mentioned that they all will have the dampers and steering (even the summer 24s). I'd love to hear your take on how the 24 feels compared to the 23, especially since you've been dailying a 23 and are very in tune with the driving dynamics of your cars. Thanks! Keep up the quality content :)

Interesting feedback. Most of the things on your list fo not bother me at all, but I kind of agree on a few of them. 1. The middle vent does look a bit out of place, but as long as it can be positioned to blow where you want it, I don’t really mind it. 2. The cargo door not opening unless all doors are unlocked is a bit if a pain. I picked someone up from the airport, pulled up to the loading area and tried to open the hatch and nothing. I’ll admit it took me a couple extra minutes to figure it out. 😏 3. Gas mileage could be better I agree. On a related note, I know you didn’t mention the IStop feature, and I know a lot of people don’t like it, but to my knowledge, mine has never engaged so I’m wondering if that’s hurting my gas mileage even more? 😕 4. I have no problem with the seats and can’t imagine anyone feeling the stitching on their butt crack unless they’re driving naked. (Or they have the whole “ Princess and the Pea” thing going on)😏 5. One thing not mentioned here is that my CX50 gets water spots something terrible😡 Noticeably worse than any other car I’ve had. I’ve had it waxed, but may need a ceramic coat or something 😢

Great review, the seats are definitely very uncomfortable , I believe the leather seats are the culprit, I can totally feel the stitching in the middle of the leather seats, so if you are buying this car definitely test drive and spend a good amount of time to see if the seats are comfortable or not. Most cars have shitty wireless chargers , the best one I have seen so far is Toyota crown. I didn’t like the key fob too, it’s super light, feels like a toy and button on the side are just stupid. The position of cup holders in the center console is definitely weird if you put a taller bottle it starts coinciding with the dashboard. I like driving my car however the uncomfortable seats just ruins the driving experience.

If you lock the doors.. then try to open the door.. it won’t open.. the trunk is the same way so it makes sense. I haven’t heard anything about the power train having problems so if these are your complaints, the car is a 10/10

Aesthetics aside, MPG is one of my biggest issues, I drive very little in the city and I get ~17mpg. On highway long trips, we got to ~25MPG at best... that is just not what they advertise and WAY lower than what competition can do. But I own it now, so I get to live with it.

1. Grab handle interferes with my knee - we got the cx-5 instead which has a nicer interior. 2. Vents are neither thoughtful nor aesthetic. 3. Doors sound tinny when closing. 4. Would love it if the pano-sunroof were optional...the downside is like putting an extra 150 lbs on the roof. 5. Throttle and brake on the cx5 turbo are GREAT - why not the same on the cx-50? 6. Why not have same wheels as cx-5? Looking forward to seeing the 2025 updates.

I just got my own CX50. Is there something wrong with mine? Shouldn't these have mirrors that sync with the seating position? My 2020 Mazda 3 Hatch was a preferred package and had the ability to move the mirrors when I hit my seating position. My M3 had much better features tbh. If anyone wonders why I seem nitpicky on this it is because I work at a job during the winter where my car has to sit out all day in the snow. Trying to scrape off Ice or snow at the end of the work shift sets my mirrors off. My M3 made it so they would reset right to where they should be. Although I do enjoy being higher up off the road given the weather here in the northeast. It just lacks a few things IMO. I managed to land a turbo which is great! Lost out on my Bose sound system sadly.

You use the word "hate" but then you admit they are "nit-picking" things. Cosmetic issues that you make a big deal of and a few things that seem like legit issues but your video demeanor comes off as nit-picking as a whole. Couple of real complaints are things that you could have figured out and knew about from your test-drive and examination, hence no complaint like Gas mileage and response (a million reviews on youtube, detailed breakdown on handling and throttle-brake response.). Panoramic -you should have seen the limits on first look at the vehicle. Better wheels to fit the off-road feel ( again a million youtube reviews detail the smoothness/luxury aspects rather than off-road prowress - but your wheel issue would have been solved by buying the Meridian PKG. I speced a Meridian for $42K with all-terain tires - off-road capable more than the reg tires you "hate"... again.. you saw them at test drive right? I think the title of this video should have been "5 minor concerns and a couple of pay attentions"

Most are not happy there is no hybrid option available yet, like the Corolla Cross built at the same factory in Alabama. It looks like the CX-70 will have the hybrid option instead of the turbo inline 6, for a bajillion dollars for a 3 row.

“Most”? Based on how few CX-50’s there are on dealer lots I’d argue that’s not the case. Plenty of people looking for a simple, fun-ish reliable car avoid hybrids and EV’s like the plague. People who enjoy driving Mazdas often like driving actual cars, not soulless batteries. EV’a are for people who are more into their phones than their cars.

Also i wish they would stop calling this an SUV. It's not. It's a damn car. To me a SUV is taller has much more room than these. Brands have just found a way to sell 'cars' glorified sedans and hatchbacks and call them SUVS. It definitely is not an OFF-road vehicle. That's marketing crap.
