Happy New Year, everybody! I miss those old New Year's Eve shows like they had back then. TV back then was so much more fun to watch.

Back in 79 I was 3 and it blows my mind thinking that my parents were probably watching this same New Years Eve show while I was sleeping and now Im watching it 41 years later!

It's strange feeling people celebrating a new year that was 41 years ago. Although, I was only 3, at the time. It's amazing too how many of these products fade away over time. I believe VO5 is the only one around still.

Plenty of the products here are still made today including Breck Shampoo, Brioschi, Karastan Rugs, Static Guard, Alka Seltzer, Bayer Aspirin, Wheaties, Coca Cola (obviously), Tylenol and Pepto Bismol.

@@80sCommercialVault The mainstays are obvious, well, because they're still around so I guess I didn't think to mention them. Lol Guess I also had in mind the other commercials you have on your channel and how many products have come and gone over the years (Future, Scrugg for example) A lot of which I've totally forgotten about until I see your videos and it jogs my memory. Love the channel, by the way.

Purina Moist And Chunky- That is one determined dog to reject his food by pushing it away with a lot of force, without a single bit of food spilling out of it. "Happy Birthday Charlie Brown" Promo- It's amazing to see that Charlie Brown is so light weight, that, the crowd of characters carrying him can throw him up in the air like a ball. Bayers Children's Asprin- That medicine bottle looks like a perfume bottle.

In the 1924 pic, the band is posing in front of a sign that says "Gennett (something-or-other." Gennett was a record company that was based in my hometown of Richmond, IN. They primarily worked with jazz musicians. I don't remember when they closed, but the building was recently restored (to a degree) for the public to rent out. The city's farmers market is housed there during the winter months.

4:53. I recall a short doc on the BLUES BROTHERS on their 20 anniversary DVD. Cab insisted he didn't want to do "Minnie..." the original way; He wanted to go disco with it; Presumably to fit the times. The directors thought is was a bad idea. GOOD CALL.

Happy new year 1979!! 😎 I only have audio recordings from commercials that day on a audio cassette (video recorders being a costly investment back then) when somebody held the tape recorder mic to the TV speaker to record the Orange Bowl.

As a kid, I used to eat children’s chewable aspirin (grape flavour) like candy. My grandma was a GP and gave us tons of free samples - if my parents had had to buy it I’m sure they would have noticed.

Purina Moist & Chunky-dog was like"Get that mess outta here.." Breck Shampoo-would be kind of distracting if when talking to your significant other, she takes her hat off and does a random hair flip It's Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown-thankfully it's implied he overcame his shyness at the end of The Peanuts Movie Brioschi-sometimesi used to pretend having a stomachache just so i could drink some Foundation For Ileitis & Colitis PSA -at first i thought Charlton was going to say,"...those damned, dirty apes.." @4:57-afterwards Cab probably said"Guess ill never perform for a crowd like that again.." Wheaties-with Caitlyn's long-lost brother Bruce Coca Cola-loved that shot of NYC in the background with the couple Comtrex-lol @ the guy's "WTF" expression Coca Cola ad 2-Saturday nights were much more lively back in the 70s and 80s Pepto Bismol -the food they had must have went past the expiration date

Wow Cab I did not know you could bore the crowd with that Disco version of Minnie the Moocher holy crap that was bad! Yes - I had to watch the Blues Brothers version right after just to get the "disco" out of my head - you can't even call it disco. Cab is his finest in the BB version by far!

0:39--I think Breck shampoo is still around, but it is hard to find in my area these days. 1:18--Wow; a couple of obscure Charlie Brown specials! Kind of a pity that some of these only aired a couple of times--and that even the more famous ones are now off network TV. Mercifully, they've been released on DVD. I have the "1970's Volume 2" boxed set which includes this "First Kiss" special. 1:50--I'm not familiar with Brioschi antacid. According to Wikipedia, apparently it is made in Italy and is no longer marketed in America. I wonder if they got in trouble with Alka-Seltzer for using "plop-plop" and "fizz-fizz" in this commercial? 4:23--And speaking of Alka-Seltzer--Here they are, temporarily ditching their iconic jingle for a traditional Christmas song. 6:30--Wow; I remember when Bruce Jenner was the spokesman for Wheaties, long before he/she/they came out as transgender. 7:02 and 11:03--Not the most memorable one, but "Coke Adds Life" is one out of many great jingles used by Coca-Cola over the years. As an added bonus, we get 2 distinctly different versions of it here.
