70 Surveillance State
1
After my decades in the Navy,
I went back to teach in high school,
I was the ROTC instructor,
Different time and different rules.
2
Twenty-five years had passed,
Since I had led a high school class,
The military trains you to be adaptable,
And I learned the ropes pretty fast.
3
But those ropes had changed a lot,
From the old days until now,
The latest thing was a surveillance state,
And let me tell you how.
4
From the time a student walked in the door,
And the students all realized,
All their moves were video recorded,
And all actions were supervised.
5
Every student, all the time,
I thought it was sad but true,
I wondered what it was like to know,
The man is always watching you.
6
Of course I know about security,
And the mounting danger threat,
But this is not how the world really works,
Well, at least not yet.
7
So if you want know what it’s like in prison,
Where they examine your every move,
You don’t have to rob a mini-mart,
Just go back to your old high school.
