Finished in Polar White over a Blue knit interior, this 1970 Pontiac Trans Am is the recipient of a 2-year rotisserie restoration. The car comes with restoration receipts and PHS docs and is a blast to drive!
The car has excellent bodywork and a brand new two-stage paint job. All of the chrome and stainless has been redone, and all of the rubber seals and body bushings have been replaced. The engine compartment is nicely restored with the correct paint finishes, and the undercarriage is finished in correct red oxide primer. Also new is all the glass, which has been replaced with the correct looking, green tint glass. The front subframe and control arms have been powder coated to provide a little extra protection and a really nice finish.
The interior has been redone with new reproduction parts from Ames Performance. All of the soft parts are new as are the interior trim parts, handles, and lights. The gauges work correctly as do all of the interior lights.
The car is a PHS correct factory 4-speed, Ram Air III spec from the factory. The engine is a correct, 1970 Ram Air III engine and has been rebuilt to factory spec and is not numbers matching. The matching-numbers 4-speed transmission comes with the car, however, it was noisy after the rebuild and has a different professionally rebuilt tranny currently installed. It was rebuilt by a 4-speed specialist and is very smooth with a nice linkage. The car runs with a rebuilt Pontiac Rochester Q-Jet, factory manifolds, and an upgraded electronic ignition system. The exhaust system is the Firebird SD spec system from Ames performance and has a great sound without being overly noisy. The rear end is the posi 3.31 unit which has been rebuilt, and the clutch is a Centerforce dual friction unit.

I've always preferred stock exhaust sounds to custom exhaust systems. Early T/A s sounded perfect.

I only hit the like button when you said it had been driven 2,500 miles after an insanely detailed)and expensive) restore. It's sad so many of these cars are just left to sit on a trickle charger.

I can give you a couple of specs on this car. At 65 mph on the freeway, it gets 16 mpg with the 9068 cam. Cruising at 100 mph, I got 13 mpg. The factory air cleaner is from Delco and, on the box, it reads 1970 1/2 Pontiac Trans America. It's an AC 366C The only place that I've seen it referred to as a Trans America rather than a Trans Am. One of the main assets of the Trans Am is the steering box. It is a high-effort,, high rate,, variable ratio box. It saved ma a few times. The solenoids that operate the flap in the hood scoop are the same as the solenoids on the anti-dieseling system. The A.C. compressor has a smaller pulley that the crank and, it does NOT like to go to 10,000 rpm. The Z-28 got a hybrid 10 bolt but, the Trans Am had a 12 bolt. I built both at GMAD Van Nuys.

When I was there it was called C-P-C Div Van Nuys.86-90 got lay off. Had high GM seniority but low location time. So, we were the Earlybird's to go when things were heading towards a shutdown in 91. I worked in the trim dept upstairs as TMR. I can't imagine how much you went through in the 70-80. I had worked for GM but never an assembly line before. We had a rear hatch that was open. you guys had none of that. I laugh remembering watching temps run for the door at the first chance the line stopped. To anyone who thinks we were over paid, has never work on a line. After the line stopped for the evening, we would walk the line for missed items all the way to the yard out back. Take care.

Yes on the exhaust! The effort that they put into that back in the day was astounding as many cars had their own unique sound. The Corvette was one and you could tell it was a Vette with your eyes closed. And the crossflow muffler on the Firebird also had a great unique sound. Today most just put on Flomasters to make it as loud as possible and ruins the uniqueness and sounds terrible imho.

Back in 78, my buddy had a 1970 Trans Am “same specs / color as video” that gave me the bug for one, found back then a 1971 455 HO for $2500 but at the the time I ended up buying a 1978 Trans Am T-Top new for $8,500 I still kick my self for selling the 78, but passing on the 71 and looking back now I WAS A FOOL!!
