I worked for a long time as a conservation officer in Canada. Occasionally we had to deal with dangerous animals. Several times I dealt with brown bears that were quite large. The 2 weapons I carried and used regularly were a 12 Guage pump action and a 600 nitro double rifle. Needless to say the 600 was highly effective at stopping a charging bear. The 700 nitro is a whole other level above that. Love it. Thanks Scott!

As much as I love watching you blow thing to smithereens with a bunch of different elephant guns up close, I cant help but wonder how those guns would perform from a descent distance and what the accuracy would be along with damage to say a, Zombie torso or ballistics gel 🤷♂ And, did tactical T-rex tag crispy on your back???

It's wild watching the slo-mo. You can see the projectile pass through the target, and the explosion actually happen after the projectile has come and gone. It just deposits so much energy into the target as it passes through and then seeing that energy reverberate outwards causing the explosion is so cool, and also educational. Science is fun AF brah.

Two things I always wonder: how do the effects of these elephant rounds compare to same/similar caliber sniper rounds (e.g. .375 CheyTac, .416 Barrett, .50 BMG) against unarmored and armored targets, and how do their effects change at different ranges? Does a .700 NE or a .50 BMG do more extravagant damage at 10, 100, 500, 1000 yards? Stuff like that would be really cool and interesting to see!

Yeah those fat hunting cartridges in the single shots aren't meant for long range use. If you're shooting them at 100 yards, that's a long shot. The reason they do the double barrel is for faster follow up shots. Nothing faster.

Think about it for a moment, Scott is willing to buy a table for every single video, and is willing to break it in some sort of way. The 460 Weatherby left nothing but small fragments. It can also shoot out to 500 yards extremely effectively. It is the ultimate African big game cartridge.

@@kyledodson2992 one ended up at rock island auction house and sold for a metric ton. They got sold for consumer sales: just not for long seeing the cost to manufacture is beyond large and after you factor that into buying price the thing is a rich man’s toy at that point.

@@CatTechSupport There’s only 2 or 3 of those guns in existence and they stopped making more as well as the ammo for them. He’ll never get his hands on one. He should get a 4 bore rifle though. It’s basically a 1000 nitro express but in black powder.

One thing I'd absolutely love to see would be a revisit to the torso with the .700 nitro express. Yeah, you already shot it with it I can't doubt that. However, there's something you left out of it. We need both triggers to be pulled at once. Also just to make it more spectacular, lay the torso down and shoot it length wise instead just through the chest. Soft points would be preferred but obviously not a must. I think doing that would show the true power of that beast of a rifle.

I have never fired a 700 Nitro, had one in front of me, but not allowed to shoulder it. An old acquaintance of mine, has fired the 700. He is no whinger, but he described firing it as "not a pleasant experience". Something he would be reluctant to repeat, so he says. I would not be surprised that a firing both barrels at the same time, would end up with shoulder damage. How much shoulder damage is open to speculation, but reading between the lines , it seems very very likely. Scott does remarkably well from what I'm told. Firing the 700 once seems very challenging, he sometimes fires several rounds. I sometimes wonder if he edits things so as to be able to give his shoulder (and back) some rest between discharges.

How about a side by side comparison between the 700 nitro Express and the 50 BMG. I'm interested in seeing what does more damage. Thanks for demonstrating how effective an elephant gun is as a home defense rifle... Effective but messy.

in theory, if both projectiles were loaded with a charge resulting in the same muzzle energy it would depend on the target, if you're hitting something without sufficient armor the higher caliber and domed projectile of the .700 will instantly impart more energy on the target with more explosive results, whereas an armored target such as a vehicle will be able to withstand the initial energy transfer better, meaning the .700 won't have as much stopping power as the spitzer-point .50BMG with the same muzzle energy. in reality, according to wikipedia the .700 nitro has a muzzle energy of 12,000j whereas the .50BMG has anywhere between 18,000j and 20,000j meaning that it's already 50% more powerful in terms of raw numbers.

A lot of these rounds are designed specifically to dump all of their energy into a target they hit, which is why they exploded so spectacularly. So after going through the skull, they have no force behind them to continue penetrating anything.

@@kalin6149 It is an interesting phenomena for sure. But notice how I didn't say a ton, I said ALL. Especially those higher velocity rounds. It's why something like a 5.56 will explode a jug of water more than a 7.62x39.

Between Garand, Demo, and Kentucky - I think they've got you covered. They usually don't have many of these heads, and shooting them once usually does enough damage that they can't really get a good demonstration on a used one - they just split apart faster... so they tend to do em in batches. Pretty fun videos - I enjoy the high caliber exotic tests the most.

ISIS put out quite a few high def execution videos back in the day. One they put out involved a guy being shot in the back of the head point blank with a 12 gauge slug, and they played it in super slow mo. It looked really similar to what these Elephant rounds did to these skulls. A massive amount of initial pressure, which caused the guys face to begin to look like he was being filled up with air, and his eyeballs began to bulge out of his head, and then his entire face took on the form of likea flimsy Halloween mask, as the bone behind it disappeared and the skin has nothing left to cause it to maintain it's normal form. It really looked like that first zombie head he shot, just from the back to front, instead of vice versa.

Man those slow mo shots are good. The amount of expansion from the bullets is insane - they'll blow out the back, the gelatin and skull bits look like they might barrreeelly hold it together. Then it just keeps expanding and the entire skull just... disappears Wild!

Safe to say zombie heads are no elephants! WOW! Some of those rounds straight up vaporized those heads(460 weatherby). The slow mo was awesome! I think the 700 torched it and blew it up! Nice fire ball! Cool contest. Pretty brave giving out that address. I will definitely be sending something for ya to pulverize. Just watch out for those weirdos. You might end up screaming-what's in the box!

The elephant rifles are really neat and they did a good job. I'd like to see you use something like a 22-250 with say a 45 or 50 gr slug on one of those heads. I think you'll find the carnage to be rather interesting.... and the ammo is cheaper too.

The .700 is clearly the best option. As soon as you're close enough to get zombie goo on you, the massive fireball out of the muzzle sterilyzes everything to avoid health risks XD
