7029 Clun Castle & LMS 6233 - A Christmas Weekend Finale !

A day where the potential to capture three locomotives was on the cards but ended with the just the two due to 46100 Royal Scot failing on the Pennine Moors Christmas Express. Even with the loss of one locomotive we still had the delightful duo. To be honest the main star of this video is Clun Castle and we only caught two brief shots of the Duchess which are at the end of the video. While brief shots they were, Duchess Of Sutherland was going well along the East Coast Mainline on its final approach to York. We even got to see and hear the steam operated coal pusher in full affect with its cannon fire sound effect !
So there we are, I hope you enjoy our final steam outing for 2021... I think. I'd like to wish all our subscribers and returning viewers a Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year and as always thanks for all the comments throughout the year. Keep a lookout for our usual end of year compilation which I hope to get published on Boxing Day.

Excellent shots as always, Liam and Phil, and what an achievement in just one day. Clun Castle seems to be one of the most consistent main line performers. The DoS coal pusher was impressive - thanks for highlighting it - and I think that's the only time I've actually seen and heard one in operation. Excellent filming and locations - always great to see pedigree higher power locomotives at speed - both looked superb. I thought CC was running well until I saw DoS - looking probably just as she would have done - without the catenaries - all of those years ago. No weeping drains either! Thanks for sharing. Al.

Hello, neophyte subscriber from the USA. Is it common for these heritage runs to fill their carriages to capacity? Do enough people purchase tickets to make the outings profitable. I personally very much enjoy watching.

Thanks for commenting Jim, these two trains in this video were heading to the popular town of York and as they were Xmas trains they would of been sold out. The profit is usually in the last carriage.

Provided the steam locos are within allowable tonnage for their trip bearing in mind gradients en route, why won't Network Rail allow the accompanying diesel to run one section behind and quickly assist if ever needed? Having a diesel attached wrecks the whole premise of a steam day tour, and if you're sharing tracks with faster regular trains, the special could be put away in the loop if there are some near key locations. In some other nations, it's not normal for rail authorities to insist on diesel assistance.

Edmund, this does happen but its added cost. Steam is forever in and out of passing loops. I'm happy to tolerate a diesel on the rear but as long as it keeps quiet.

All very nice, but much too much of carriages. More of those lively engines ,coming and going . It,s the steam engine that defined a glorious rail era. Up the game you chubers. jeff

@@MarshSteamVideosTM great stuff Marshy, scenery, sound, weather variety. Yet I,m not into trains really. Not into support diesels. It,s the living engine that rings my bell. Nige has a touch I think of train spotting pandemic,not fully pan. So maybe buy more cameras and control remotely eyeing off the engine. When I was a farm kid near a slight rail climb into Toowoomba in Qld, Oz. The engine and it's huffing thrilled me. A copperish coloured bb17 , I think, don,t quote me,I no officianado.That caught myear,eye,and nose. Downs Steam have just finished recommissioning a locomotive ,20 years effort. Forty or so of these locos were built by Southern Cross/ Toowoomba Foundry many year ago. So keep up the great work. Just, for my taste ease up on carriages. Didn,t James ,dislike carriages,ask Thomas. Happy New Year Jeff of oz
