bit late to the party, but this video really highlights the audible change from the spam cans with the chain valve gear and the walschaerts found on the rebuilt examples. Originals much smoother.

Excellent video! Last time I checked the Caldon Low line had been cut back to near Bottom Lane bridge. Why? I remember going on it all the way to Caldon Low quarry or what’s left of it back in 2007. Cutting the line back is utterly ridiculous! We want more and longer heritage railways not less!

Both great locomotives lucky to have them running .It was a shame a 3rd wasnt kept as an u rebuilt one.probably the best 4-6-0 express loco to run in Britain i am aware the King has many fans myself included it exuded sheer class, but a Royal Scot has a presence of Don't mess with me !.

Hi Liam (& Phil). Great to meet up over the two days, you put together an excellent record of events as usual. I found a comment on my post interesting from @Bobbedward who is always at the west mouth of Dainton tunnel as he works close by. He says that something very similar happened inside the tunnel on the Friday and the loco ended up wheel-spinning to get the load through, he also said it was the slowest train he had ever seen there and he has seen them all for years! So maybe it was an underlying problem of supplying sufficient vacuum when using maximum regulator and cut-off i.e. a vicious circle. Best regards, Alan (& Margaret)
