This video is about the life and biography of Navin Nischol, a forgotten Bollywood heartthrob, who was once a promising young actor in the Hindi Film Industry. Navin Nischol was a prominent romantic star in the 1970's and was also known as the poor man's Rajesh Khanna. Navin Nischol graduated from FTII, Pune with a gold medal and made it big with his first movie 'Sawan Bhadon' released in 1970. Thereafter Navin Nischol did many films like Buddha Mil Gaya (1971), Parwana (1971), Hanste Zakhm (1973) to name a few. Interestingly Navin Nischol refused to star alongside Amitabh Bachchan in the movie Deewar (1975), when Yash Chopra offered him the role of Shashi Kapoor. This video gives all the important incidents from the life of Navin Nischol including his passing away in 2011.

I remember watching Khosla ka ghosla with my father many years ago, he said the same things to me that this guy was a very big star back in old days, some bad decisions and not being able to adept according to the time got him out of the race. According to me his calm nature was not fit for action movie. If he was alive today I am sure he would be part of some blockbuster OTT series. Where quality content is required.

Ye Jeetendra ka movie tha " Tumhari Kasam ". Khaas taur pe Rajesh Roshan ki music direction me ye khoobsoorat gaana bana. Ye aisa gaana hai jise kitne baar hi sune bore nahi lagta hai. Thanks for reminding this song. Have a beautiful day👍🏻👍🏻

I liked his film Buddha mil gaya, Haste Zakham, Victoria number 203 very much. The songs were great of all these 3 films. The Song "Raat Kali ek khwaab me ai" was shot on Bandra Fort, Mumbai, I think. It may have been shot on Sion Fort too, I'm not sure. You can see many Mills Chimneys of Mumbai City. Tum jo mil gaye ho, Yeh mana meri Jaan songs of film Hanste Zakham were fantastic.

I used to read Filmfare and Star & Style regularly those days besides listening to those great songs on Radio Ceylon and Vivid Bharathi. Your articles transport me straight back to those golden days of my childhood. Thanks a lot. As put by you rightly, when your time is bad you take bad decisions and that cost Navin Nischal a lot. But that does not take away the fact that he was a fine actor and had the mannerisms of a star.

Frankly, I remember him through Dekh Bhai Dekh (my childhood show) and, of course ,through the song Raat Kali Ek Khwab Me Aayi! And today only I got to know that this song Simti Si Sharmayi Si was picturised on Mr. Nishchal although, I hv listened to ds song a millionth time 😛 Anyways, u really sing beautifully Sir!

He had a great sounding voice matching Amitabh’s deep voice. He was also tall like Amitabh. He had all the ingredients to be a superstar. But he made some wrong decisions. Reminds me of Anwar Saab’s singing career. Tum jo mil gaye ho was his most famous and iconic song followed by Raatkali ek khwab mein Ayi and also Yeh Mana Meri Jaan by Rafi Saab. Later on in Amitabh’s Desh Premee he appeared as second lead in a much lesser role when he understood what mistakes he made cost him dearly. Rahoul you have a great singing and speaking voice!!

His most hilarious songs are from the movie " Victoria No. 203 ". Kishore Kumar's voice sounds perfectly fit for Navin Nischol. Can't forget this movie and songs ever. I became a great fan of Navin Nischol after watching this movie. Several times i watched it in the theatre.

Naveen Nishchol ji was a great actor, did lots of good work, but unfortunately could not keep it up. Towards end of 90's he had to do some insignificant rolls in big movies, like Sakshi, RK's Aa ab laut chalen, Was in relation with Reeta Bhaduri, but due to untimely death that did not work either. Rahoul ji All those songs you have mentioned were great. I also liked his movies like, Victoria no 203 and Dharma. Zorro and Monto, unfortunately he had to work in those movies, nobody remembers them at all. Thanks Rahoul ji for tributing this yesteyears actor. Navin Sir rest in peace.

His was the most charming face of Bollywood ever. I used to cut and place his photos under my table top glass in the 1970s. Another actor of those times was Anil Dhawan who too didn't seem to have got what his looks should have given him. Truly handsome.

To conclude what happen with Naveen ji these lines are most suitable that bhagy k aagey sab vivash hai. As a child sang sawan bahdo songs along with sister happily. The moment i got to know he did not become big. I was like how it's possible. I remember clearly getting impressed by his acting in dhundh. Aap sabhi Ghar k hai. Nahi main es ghar k liye naya hu. Ajnabee hu. He refused 2 actors movies like roti kapda n Deewar. He wanted to remain solo. After reading vinod Mehra interview of 1978 where he says he did not like Multi starer trend and this trend will go off. I feel no body realised that how this trend will be hit. So , I dont feel now Naveen ji was wrong in refusing that time. Felt bad as how a great talent was lost ( was not an over actor for sure) n how he suffered as father n police case actually broke him completely. He wanted to go without pain and God heard it. 🙏 Irony of life he was born on 18th March n passed away next day on 19th.

When Amitabh Bachhan was sacked from his first picture after a month - I don’t know why, I guess because of his looks - the job was offered to Navin Nischoll, who declined it saying that it would appear that he was doing injustice to a newcomer. It was then offered to Sanjay Khan, who accepted it. It speaks to Navin’s decency, and his sense of fair play. I don’t remember Navin Nischoll or his movies that well, but he looked like a decent chap but not someone who you think would prevail in a fight with a Pathan. I guess that is why the people liked AB in Zanjeer. That, and his baritone voice would scare you out of your pants even before the fight began. I didn’t like fights in movies, but as long as they were there, I liked Amitabh Bachhan to fight them. Before Zanjeer, I liked Navin Nischoll.
