In this video I reinstall the clutch side cover and carburetor, repair couple leaks in the oil tank and manage to get the engine running although not very good. I think the problem is the carb mount that is too loose. The engine is getting too much air.

Hey Dale, I noticed that the carburetor on this model slides over a rubber boot which may be dried out and shrunk. I have had good luck soaking dried out rubber parts in brake fluid. sometimes brake fluid will bring old rubber back to life. Another great video Thank you

Hey thanks for the tip, James, yes brake fluid does have that effect on rubber parts. I didn't think about that. Thanks, and thanks for hanging out in the shop with me.

Have you checked the jets and needle in the carburetor and two other things that may help is to get an NGK plug and check also that you have a correct air filter and clean air box, add 4 ounces of Chevron Techron fuel additive to help clean the carb further and that maybe helpful. When you do get a quality chain I do suggest a new rear and front sprocket. Thank you for the great video Sir. !

I can't agree more, I just love getting into this stuff and figuring out how to fix it. I prefer not to work on bikes that have to be all original. I like having the flexibility to improvise and fabricate to fix the problems encountered. It keeps the old brain working in my retirement. It's nice hearing from all the folks out there about solutions and ideas. This is a great bunch of folks that follow these old bikes. What's really nice is no one takes this stuff serious; name of the game is FUN. Hey thanks for hanging out with me, you are so right, we just keep learning more stuff.

Hey Dale, I enjoyed hanging out in the shop with you today. I think you have found the problem with the loose carburettor, drawing air. It could be a crank seal leaking but the obvious thing is the loose carb. It certainly seemed to run well once you restricted it with your hand. Maybe you won't have to do much to this one. Best wishes, Dean.

Hi Dale. Great looking bike, I really like those old rotary valve Kawasaki’s. I used to have a KE100, it was a good little machine and I wish I never sold it. The erratic idling certainly sounds like an air leak, you’re right. It might be worth trying to run the bike with the side cover bolted back on, obviously this won’t fix the loose carb spigot but will stop the engine pulling so much air, providing there is a good seal between the two faces. I think those side covers take a paper gasket? I’m sure by your next video you’ll have it sorted out. Thanks again Dale and look forward to the next one with you. Cheers Dan
@montana2strokeracer
@montana2strokeracer 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I was thinking that last night myself. Maybe put a large o-ring around the mount tube and put the cover on. I also need to pull the flywheel off and see if the seal is pushed out. That could be an issue too. I will probably end up doing a leak down test.
@garyisabelle8078
@garyisabelle8078 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Dale, all my G series carbs clamp on with an access hole in the clutch cover, maybe you can modify yours to clamp on. Regardless whether the air leak is at the carb, I believe it's time to vaccume/pressure test as it is likely to leak elsewhere after 50 years.
@montana2strokeracer
@montana2strokeracer 2 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, I have new seals coming and I probably will have to open her up. So, a pressure check is on the horizon for sure, probably do it before the disassemble just to see, and it will be good for another video. Think I did one on a Yamaha a few months ago. Yes I think they improved on the design on the later bikes. Thanks for your help, and for hanging out with me in the shop.

Hello, what part number is the cable at 23:54? From the manuals it looks like either 54017-039 or 54017-060? Those are both labeled as starter cables though
@montana2strokeracer
@montana2strokeracer Жыл бұрын
Not sure, it is the oil pump cable, I will have to look, didn't need one for mine so I haven't investigated it. The starter cable runs from the twist grip to the choke on the carb.

Dale.. inside the engines air duct it had some mud wasp nests that could get into the carb intake....
@montana2strokeracer
@montana2strokeracer 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, its nasty in there, crusty more than anything from hard water most likely. But no mud wasp, we don't have them here, too cold. I grew up in Oklahoma and we had those mud dobbers, never seen them here in the 35 years I have lived here. But yes, it needs cleaned. Most likely when I pull the engine and start that, I will bead blast that area clean then put in the ultra-sonic cleaner.

Have you been able to make any determinations about air leaks on these f7 bikes? I have one thats been nothing but trouble. Replaced the carb boot with a NOS boot, replaced ignition side crank seal, plugged/locked out the "drain pump" - all potential sources for air leaks and the bike still has air leak symptoms. Probably perform a leakdown test next, not sure what else im missing. Challenging bikes to get back running again. Great videos thanks
@montana2strokeracer

I have been able to get this one to seal, if you look at the will it run and a couple other videos, I did on this one at first. The carb boot was my biggest problem, the seals are getting replaced now, along with O-rings. The leak down test is your best option for finding the pesky leaks, be sure to check where the center cases interface, the base and head gasket, along with the sparkplug seal. Of course, on these with the rotary valve, there are several O-rings, and that stupid engine pump valve on the lower front. Good luck with it, hope you are successful in finding it easily!.

my tc-100 carb has a screw on clamp access hole on the side, you have a clamp where is the screw? doesn't take much tightening to clamp.
@montana2strokeracer
@montana2strokeracer 2 жыл бұрын
It looks like there is a clamp and screw, but the clamp was never split or drilled for a screw or bolt. This is a purely slip fit and it is held on by the carb cover pushing in on the carb body. It is totally not well designed in my opinion.

@@montana2strokeracer all good :) I don’t know about that haha, learning just like you with this bike lol just took mine apart and it can stick into the cover slot. As far as the piston debacle for my F7, I checked compression and I was getting like 90 PSI, so I tore the top end down, and I’m curious, I’ve got a 0.40 over piston on the way, with the KD/KE rings, and I’m wondering if I can just get away with replacing the STD rings to new? The gap on one of my rings is 0.08 (max is 0.07). What would you recommend? Will new rings reset my compression?
