Embark on an extraordinary journey through the life and mind of one of the most influential figures in the world of computation and physics - Stephen Wolfram.
Today, we are talking to Stephen Wolfram, founder and CEO of Wolfram Research and creator of Mathematica and Wolfram Alpha answer engine.
We traced Stephen's academic journey from Eton College to Oxford and CalTech, covering milestones, first scientific papers at 15, and the shift from space to physics. Delving into chapters on his PhD, teaching at CalTech, and receiving the MacArthur Fellowship, Stephen shared insights on complex systems, mentorship, and encounters with figures like Richard Feynman and Steve Jobs. After exploring the creation and impact of Wolfram Alpha, the Wolfram Physics Project, and his current pursuits, we also gained insights into Stephen's productivity system, reflections on parenting, friendships, and Hollywood interactions.
Throughout the episode, Stephen imparted wisdom and advice for fresh college graduates, leaving a profound mark on the sands of history. We hope that his wisdom will help you mark the trajectory of your academic and professional career while you have fun listening to the new episode of our podcast. Enjoy!

I can't believe how many of his KZfaq videos I've watched. Miles over my head but still crazy interesting to watch. Especially love his early interactions with the big boys at Caltech. Especially love his science history talks. While I don't share his intellect, I'm afraid that I *do* identify with many of his "quirks". 🙂

Yes I remember watching the 2010 TED talk and at the time I had no idea what Wolfram was talking about and thought it was just “whatever” but in 2020, after looking into his model I also picked up how everything fit into place and was again reminded of the 2010 TED talk and I shamed myself for not realizing what made it so special. I needed the 10 years of studying physics and eventually complex systems in 2017 for me to actually see why his model was the one. One of the key things for me that made it click was that it answered a paradox/research question I was figuring out in 2019, which to my surprise was in a completely unrelated field that had some deep connection with computation, complexity and biology and my reaction was “guhh?!” And I just couldn’t get why they were deeply connected. Wolframs work out the pieces together like an elegant puzzle and it all just then made intuitive obvious sense.

My Favorite Rocket Is the Nuclear Pulse Space Vehicle! It originated as Project Orion with support from DARPA, after a suggestion by Stanislaw Ulam in 1947."
