Let's be honest here. I love the 90s models but to say they used skills to be supermodels vs girls now is a bit of a far stretch. The fashion industry today is a lot more competitive than it used to be in the 90s, where only a select few girls got the spot light, mostly from accidental run-ins with a casting agent. Not many girls make a name for themselves in fashion by their own pursuit. The biggest names I can think of are Linda Evangelista and Doutzen Kroes. Other girls like Kate Moss and Gisele Bundchen were scouted. Girls who make it into the fashion industry are by majority introduced and selected by photographers, fashion designers, and fashion editors. I don't think fashion is dead now, but in fact I quite like the fact that it is getting it's attention back. In the 2000s, people were claiming the supermodels were dead, and really not many people can name the supermodels of the 2000s aside from Gisele and some Victoria's Secret models unless you actually follow fashion. The 80s and early 90s had their own look of supermodels who exuded glamour and womanhood. The late 90s to early 2000s and even in parts of the late 2000 and till now saw a heroin chic trend. The trend now may be social media supermodels, but at least the girls are making a name for themselves that people can recognize and fashion designers can profit.
