Useless video it doesnt have to stay up if you need it foled up to fit somewhere it's going to be squeezed in so it won't fall anyways. And if it does fall you had enough room to not need it to fold anyway.

Had an old Delta benchtop as my first planer. Great machine for $90. Added a 4" dust port for my sanity. Found an older Makita 2030 for $250 and drug it home. Cleaned the beds of surface rust and put a new set of bearings on it. Crafted my own dust collection from some leftover PVC. Much bigger but it is an amazing 6" by 12". Crafted from that wonderful cast iron, adjusts easily and works like a plough horse. Thankfully the previous owner attached a nice base with casters for ease of movement. Absolutely love the 60" joiner bed. Scour FB market for the good deals if you can afford the space. Totally agree with your assessment. The engineers aren't Woodworkers and don't look at things like we would.

I've had a Wen 3 blade planer for a few years that has done very well for me. It has a dust port that comes off the rear with a couple of thumb screws. My one problem with it was when I went to flip the blades, a couple of the hold down screws on the blades had rusted and were very difficult to get out. After I got all 18 out and the holes cleaned up, I put stainless screws in and haven't had any trouble since. Also, my planer was only like $330, I can't get blades at the orange box store, but they're at Amazon. And Wen released a helical planer last year!

Dewalt locks down and no need for lock. I had chance to get a 15” grizzly planer, but it’s like 20 years old and needs 220v to run plus 50 amps. I had to pass on it. 13” is enough for what I do. If I needed some bigger, I’d want a wide drum sander for doing 44-48” wide tables. That would be nice.

as someone in an old city home with crap power supply, one thing I would love to know is if/how well planers and table saws succeed on a 15amp circuit. I saw a review saying the dw735 drew closer to 20a on decently heavy or wide cuts and probably will be frustrating on 15a, for example

On startup and under heavy load a 15amp machine would probably trip a 15 amp breaker. I've ran saws on extension cords and even my planer on a 15amp circuit and sometimes it was ok,but I tripped it sometimes too. I added a few 20 amp breakers and ran some new wire for my 15 amp tools in my basement. They're all on 12ga wire and havent given me any trouble. This includes my radial arm saw, miter saw, planer, table saw and jointer. My other smaller tools like scroll saw, drill press, router table, sander, and lathe are on shared circuits
