When it comes to buying underwear, you get what you pay for. When it comes to buying a luxury SUV, you get what you pay for. When it comes to buying tools, you get what you pay for. You’re always going to have a better tool if you buy a higher quality tool. Plus, a higher quality tool will always last longer than a cheap knock-off. The proof of that is almost all of us a couple of tools that Grandpa purchased back in the early 1930’s … the point is that we still have them, and they still work as they are supposed to. Thank for the video, Matt!

Thank you for sharing this video. I am sure there is some things worth it from TEMU. They have so much available, but I just do not feel comfortable ordering from them. I was given a couple rolls of the same tape. You are absolutely correct, in removing it is a very hard chose. I had to make some repetitive cuts on my Mitre saw that was outside of the rulers limits. I used it to secure a stop block. Went to remove the stop block and it removed a chunk of the melamine top. Just to see if it would work, I used it to secure a 20x20 metal babinet to the wall. Full strip from side to side, across the back, top and bottom to a 1x4. To see if it would hold the cabinet to the wall. It has not come loose yet. Is did also put 4 screws in slots, to catch it in case it did. But had not come loose yet. This stuff might be stronger than Medical tape. Everyone stay safe, happy 😊😊😊 and healthy. I hate people that support intellectual property laws. What you're doing is gatekeeping. You're protecting mediocre products with patents. You're saying poor people can't have access. Imagine if only Kreg made pocket hole jigs. We would be stuck with their mediocre design revisions and cheap plastic. I much prefer the armor tool jig.

@@mrniusi11 Actually, companies like Temu harm poor people by manufacturing easily-breakable or functionally useless junk. Tools that require repeat purchase will often cost someone more than more durable products. Temu is just as, or more, exploitative than other companies. There’s a lot to be said about lowering the barriers to entry into a hobby or profession like woodworking, but it’s a little naive to suggest that Temu is somehow a benevolent actor here. Also, I have no idea what IP laws have to do with it here, since in your second paragraph you acknowledge that different companies make different versions of tools that perform the same function. IP laws have nothing to do with Temu’s cheap, non-durable products.

I completely agree with you in regard to the inaccurate tools that would cause you to have errors in your work however where I disagree is on items like the Gripper. I actually have 2 of them and I love them, they greatly increase my safety using a table saw. For someone that wants to get into woodworking but can't afford the higher end versions I would still encourage them to get one of those items because I would rather they have it and be safe than not buy it because they copied someone else. Some people don't have the budget to buy the Festools, Woodpeckers, or Sawstops and that should not stop them from being able to enjoy woodworking.

Are you sure your Woodpecker square was actually...square? It seems weird that most of the ones you compared to it were "off" in the same manner. The only issue I had was the measurement markings were consistently off a little.

If you don't know if you are going to like a new hobby, then it makes sense to go cheap to start then upgrade later. However, from what I've seen even before this video, Temu is not the place to buy tools no matter what. Yes, they might have a gem stuck in there but that is like going to the casino. You might get lucky 1 time and have a winning hand, but the house is going to win the other 99 times. In my opinion it's not worth it. Keep making and stay awesome.

Matt, I've got to be honest, while I agree with the others about "missing the mark" to an extent, what sticks out to me the most is that it seems like about half way through you appeared to be entirely "over it" Now, this is not unreasonable, especially if it was garbage item after garbage item, and while I won't pretend to know the ins and outs of video production or scheduling, with all due respect, it really seems like you should have taken a break and gotten out of the shop for a bit. The frustration and negativity, which is exceptionally rare for your videos and while clearly valid (the circle jig that wasn't round for example) was definitely palpable. Again, I mean no disrespect to you or your editor. Maybe it's just how the footage was edited, the order each tool was placed in or maybe I just haven't had enough coffee myself (always possible) - I'm not sure. With that in mind, the criticism of the Micro-Jig clone is 110% valid! As for the tools themselves, I have a few observations: - Those adjustable jaw pliers appear to be clones of the Crescent or Irwin versions (which are very similar to each other) - they're a little different than the Knipex - The squares & protractors are not a particularly fair comparison to Woodpeckers unless it's a direct clone of a Woodpeckers tool. I think a fairer comparison would be to Empire / Swanson / Husky / Kobalt tools off the shelf from HD / Lowe's (they're much closer in price). I bought my first Woodpeckers tools based on your reviews, and I do love them but again, with respect, it's not a fair comparison between a sub $10-$20 tool and an $80+ tool - With calipers you have to be VERY careful where you order Mitutoyo calipers from and should only buy them from a reputable known distributor (meaning Grainger, McMaster-Carr, Fastenal, etc - a real industrial supply house who ONLY get their stock from the OEMs - definitely 100% NOT Amazon! Knock-offs ABOUND and some are VERY hard to spot if you don't know what to look for) - That said, for woodworking, even cheapie calipers are "good enough"... Personally I prefer the cheap ones because at $20-ish a set, you don't care as much if they fall and hit the concrete. Also, you should not leave the batteries in them as they tend to drain much faster (it's the circuit that "wakes" them up when you slide them apparently)

Thank you, Matt. I have thought the same as what you posted. But I have found that some things are not that bad. Dremel sanding drums are pretty good, just use a real Dremel drum. the ones that came with the Drum papers were wonky, that is the tech term. The Dremel bits I got are not that bad, with the prices being really cheap, they don't have to last as long as the Dremel branded ones. The biggest thing I found was the lack of info on descriptions. So buyer beware on getting things from them

I understand your point on the gripper, but honestly, 100$ (quick change between €) is a lot for a peace of plastic. For a hobby, I rather be safe than to be right. I think this a point that comes for all the tools, if you are a pro go ahead, it will save you money on the long run, meanwhile, if you are a hobbyist, you don't want to spend a lot in something is not making you money and also you are just trying tools, maybe is not a good fit or maybe you don't really need it. This kind of tools, despite being garbage some of the time, are a great intro that may develop into buying original tools.

I use the “beer principle”, if you’re going to buy disposable items & buy them often you need to find the best value, like who’s got the best price for your favourite beer. If you only buy it once (or not very often) then buy quality, you’ll be happier in the long run. I did buy some drawer handles from Temu & now I get bombarded with special offers!

I seem to have gotten luckier with one of those shoulder squares. Had some good results with a square that makes center lines on square or round pieces. The circle things nice when it works but I had the glue holding the case together fail resulting in me having to rebuilt the thing and glue it back together which worked out but it was a very annoying and fiddly process even if you put aside getting a nice finger cut in the process. I suspect the glue holding the case failed on yours too causing the blades to slip out of the tracks. Also had good results with the really cheap plastic caliper. Accurate and I can keep it out on the bench without worrying about my nice one getting damaged.

Please don't use TEMU. While I'm not a fan of the monopolies that Amazon has and the fact that they also allow for knockoffs, they at least employ US Citizens. Also, the reason why TEMU can send such inexpensive products all the way across the ocean without paying for shipping is because China uses a UN style loophole and claims they are a 3rd world country, which forces the US to foot the bill for shipping. So, in summary, TEMU has low prices because: they tacitly promote IP theft, their products are made from forced/unethical labor, and they cheat the US into to paying for shipping. With all that said, thank you for sharing, Matt. I have really enjoyed watching your videos.

While I use a Mitutoyo for work at times, and I calibrate them for customers, for my personal woodshop, I use an inexpensive one from Harbor Freight. I calibrated it using accepted accredited practices, it was just as accurate from .001 inches to 6 inches. I won't say all inexpensive Digital Calipers are as accurate, but a good comparison would be to get a battery and calibrated blocks and measure it. Biggest difference I found though was the battery life. The Mitutoyo battery lasts a long time. The inexpensive, ones you need to remove the battery or when you go and use it again a few weeks later, its dead. Looking forward to the other video.

11:09 The patent on the Gripper has expired which is why you're suddenly seeing so many very similar products. I have the Milescraft version which is excellent and much more reasonably priced. My main objection to this Temu one is that they chose to copy it right down to the color.

I always assumed the probe meters worked by putting an electric current through the wood and basing the waster content on the feedback or something. When I say that, I mean that I've never actually stuck the probes into the wood more than tiny, tiny dents. Hardwood or softwood. Now I'm questioning my life. Edit: I always get results though. Maybe I just lucked out and bought an OK one? lol

That digital caliper's battery looks like a LR44/A76 1.5v battery, that are commonly used for various small electronic items one might find in a home. The tool looks identical to one that I bought from Aldi some years ago, which worked quite well. At least here in Oz, they can be readily bought in supermarkets and 'big box stores' (to use an Americanism).

I bought that micrometer and had to go back to order the batteries. It uses a slightly odd voltage. Seems to work fine for my uses so far. I bought several router bits also. They will be throw aways when they start getting dull but for the price figured I would give them a try. As I find ones I really use I will head to TayTools or Bit&Bits for a more quality permanent bit. Doubt I'll be buying much of anything else thru them, the odds and ends I ordered were more curiosity, got about what I figured I would so I'm not going to complain.

You talk about paying extra and getting from a US firm. I live in Europe that is not an argument that I find very convincing. Why, as a European, should I pay a massive markup for a item just because it was made in the US? The microjig is a good example, you say that the cheap chinese one is the same in almost every way, but microjig is twice the price in europe and dificult to find.

I have a few of the items you showed here and haven't been able to fault any of them. The squares in particular have all been spot on - I mean how hard is it to get that right? Until I start to do a lot more projects, their stuff is a great compromise. It's a lot like my Ryobi battery tools - sure Milwaukee would be nice, but for now I'd rather have 10 Ryobi tools than 3-4 Milwaukees I'd get for the same price.

I know we don’t like knock offs, but that’s not the question… I did the same experiment, and 80% was bad stuff. The few hidden gems made it worth it because I got them under an initial offer of “buy 13, pay for 2”. But a lot was trash. What was not, was probably worth the

As for those Knipex wannabe pliers,, Using hand tools you're always better off spending a few more dollars and getting a tool that will last for years (if you take care of it) I only buy the cheap tools as ''loaner tools'', I WILL NOT loan out my good tools! I bought a cheap set of calipers from Temu, had to get an SR44/LR44 battery for them. Lowe's or Home Depot doesn't have the SR44/LR44,, had to go to Walmart by their jewelry counter and found an equivalent,, '357'.

Interesting you don't like the 1pc tenon caliper gage. I seem to remember a while back that you really seemed to like the Kreg router height set up bars. Is it because the Kreg are just longer and that make it easier to use? Because the first thing that went through my head was that as an all in one, it'd be great. Also the criticism of the Gripper is interesting since the Milescraft Grabber seems never to get any hate. Lastly, I'm most surprised that you are a member of the Temu affiliate program if you are so against their tools. Seems weird that you criticize products from Temu, but then are signed up as an affiliate. Overall, I think you have a good video. I mean I detest Festool and Woodpecker tools (mainly because of cost), but I cannot deny that if the tool you're reviewing isn't square - then you can't recommend buying it. That's fair and that's honestly all anyone can ask for is actual honesty in the process.
