Let's look at a more complicated schematic and try to learn what it does, and how to figure out what you don't know or understand

Hi Guy, this is absolutely perfect. A very very good teaching method. A big thanks for that.

this is just what i needed, il probs end up watching this a hundred times,,, thanx Imsai, could u possibly put red arrows on schematic, so we simpletons, know current direction, maybe black arrow,s for negative

In the original schematic, at least from what I can sort of see in the video, the symbol for an SCR is used for the TL431. In the hand drawn TL431 circuit the feedback is taken from the wrong end of the current limiting resistor. The TL431 is properly called a shunt _regulator._ The thing in the feedback path for current regulation is NOT a comparator. It is a linear amplifier operated open-loop at DC with the gain rolled off with rising frequency by the feedback capacitor. This is a very common configuration for an error amplifier in a power supply. The voltage control loop is much the same.

I have faucets in one bathroom that are from 1930 and they still work. My Delta from the 80's needs to be replaced though.

So the WL431 / TL431 is an adjustable zener voltage reference. And how does a voltage reference compare with a voltage regulator?

Hi! What's the purpose of your map with the two-letter grid?
@IMSAIGuy

It is a grid square map used in Ham radio. Some digital radio formats (like FT8) transmit this info to the receiving station.

Why can't they use a high frequency clock circuit to drive a chopper at something like 400Khz which can be smoothed by smaller capacitors so you get a nice clean voltage and no ripple.
