I have had this book for man years along with “American Genius- nineteenth century bank locks and time lock” they have been very helpful on jobs and will be in the future! I definitely recommend these books for everyone looking to become a locksmith

Looks like a real gem! I'm a great fan and advocate of such works. Anyone familiar with the Ashley Book of Knots would see a similarly encyclopedic and likewise indispensable reference. Now and then, someone with a lifetime of knowledge does us all the service of placing that knowledge in our hands in perpetuity through a well-presented volume like this. It's a gift to humanity.

The best book I've read is "A treatise on fire and thief-proof depositories, and locks and keys" by George Price (1856), you can download it from Google Books. It offers a massive insight into the history of locks as well as the "Great Lock Controversy".

I have mine and it is invaluable for what I do. Like many things in the world of locksmithing it is expensive but worth every penny if you are serious about being a locksmith or are deeply into lock sport. I was delighted to see this encyclopedia reviewed here!

Watch your videos regularly. While you were flipping thru the book, I saw the page (about 2:38) showing the Winfield 7 wafer lock. I picked one up at a local antique mall. Very different, and beyond my current skill level. Strange what you see when you aren't look for it. Thank you.

Looks like $80 well spent. I have 20-25 specification/parts sheets for old Sargent and Greenleaf combination, and Medeco locks on one of my computers. Reference materials like your law books are the starting place for knowledge.

Iam remodeling the entire exterior of my house siding windows doors everything can you recommend really good locks for my doors deadbolts and door handles both are there really good ones to buy or I don’t know if I’m better off buying some solid locks and having the locks themselves or lock cores or whatever you call them switched out. I would much appreciate the feed back.I am using commercial type steel doors with steel frames and security storm doors with the tempered glass and Metal bars and deadbolts on both. By the way I love this channel wealth on knowledge After the second or third episode I went and ordered a pick set and the practice lock and a few other locks as well. thank you keep on picking.

Certainly an interesting book. However for that kind of money (sure, it‘s rare and special wich increases the price) I would expect a higher quality color print on silk finish paper.

Kind of a bummer this isnt sold as a PDF. I'd love to see those diagrams scaled up and ideally be a 3D model that you can manipulate to better understand the complexity of a given lock.

You are kidding me...I was doing random searches on amazon and ebay yesterday at work under "locksmith", quiet day in the shop, I think I cut about 8 keys all day :/ Anyway, This was teh first book in the list and I was surprised at the price. Come to think of it, I think I was on lockwiki looking at a TuBAR lock and a link to this very book was one of the references on the article. Anyhow, quite the coincidence. I suppose I better watch your vid now :D

A company is printing magnets. Very robust, complex and can be miniaturized magnets (think rare earth, meets '3D printer', plus you get to choose polarity). If this technology is accessible enough, I think there will be a new bread of unpickable locks. Unlikely these can or will bind unless you have all of the magnetic pins set to the right floating height. I wont say any more but think patent pending.
