I totally agree! In our strong anti-communist and anti-nazist family this movie has been known to us children since we were 3 or 4 y.o. The apalling thing is that right now we are at the eve of a "world-anshluss",,, the same foolish project has been resumed and neo-nazi are now clothed as communist,,,, Only Our Lady Mary will be able to save us from the oncoming tiranny

The most beautiful song in The Sound of Music. When I was a child in the mid-1960's, there was a neighborhood theater that ran The Sound of Music continuously for several years. It wasn't a multi-plex (they didn't exist in our city back then)...it was just a single theater. That's how important that movie was.

I was 10 yrs old when I saw this movie in the Globe Theater in Calcutta, India. We dressed up for the movies then. At intermission, we went out to get snacks and use the bathroom. This film was so rich in content, romance, sweetness, drama, music, that it changed something in my core. Liesl and Maria were so beautiful, the Baroness too, the Captain so handsome, the story so enthralling, I could never forget it. And we sang those songs at home, I was always singing them, and I loved that yodeling song. Julie Andrews articulation was perfect. Thank you, Sound of Music. What a story!

I was ten years old when this masterpiece was released to the big screen. Our family of five didn't attend movies very often, however; this movie was so special we all dressed in our Sunday clothes. The scenery and cast will never get old. Watch it every year without fail. I was in awe of Angela Cartwright for quite a while after that.

I was even younger, but saw it and then saw it again when it was re-released on the big screen in the 1970s for a brief run - probably 1975. I had already developed such a crush on Julie Andrews - her elegant beauty, her voice, her British accent. I didn't even know at first that it was a British accent. I just thought she talked nice, and to this day I still favour RP British speech.

So you have to come to Austria (my Motherland) and you will see Austria is much more than Sound of Music. I saw this Film first when I was 21 years old (in the 90ies). I didn´t even know that this movie exists. :-) It is not very popular in Austria. Because it tells a lot of sterotypes. And every Austrian will kill you if you order "schnitzels with noodles" :-) Edelweiss is not the Anthem of Austria it is a protected flower in the Alps 🙂

I knew Angela from Lost in Space before I ever saw this movie, but I was always struck by her beauty, her poise, and her singing (she did a little singing on LiS). It's worth noting that Kym Karath, who played little Gretl, guest starred as an alien Princess in one episode! 🙂
@MaskedMan66
@MaskedMan66 Жыл бұрын
Little Kym Karath as Gretl had a horrible scare filming the scene just before this. Maria and the children fell out of a boat, and as choreographed, Julie Andrews was to stand beside Kym and make sure she didn't fall under, but she accidentally fell backwards, and Kym did fall underwater. Someone dove in and rescued her, but everyone was panicked, and Kym was crying her eyes out. Happily, she wasn't hurt, and they were able to get on with their work.

I seen this movie 50 times probably over the years. One of the most romantic scenes when Christopher Plummer tells Julie Andrews that he was in love with her. He could melt a heart.

I was approximately a ur old when the film came out. When I was older I watched it in the cinema n was delighted endlessly by the songs n the beautiful landscapes. I walked out of the theatre with a spring in my step n the songs in my heart.

One of the first movies I seen when I moved to my new foster home with my brothers one year earlier at 4 years old. I was moved in so many ways. The coldness of some parents putting money over their relationships with their children. The cruelty of war. The Joy of music. The beautiful songs. The woman who cared for the children most of all. The beautiful country of ( Austria, said Switzerland at first. Thanks for the correction). The sadness yet joy of the movie overall. Memories of a movie theater that no longer exists. Memories of attending with one brother no longer with us in life. Memories of another brother I'm happy to talk to today. Loving and strict foster parenting. Thanks for the Memories.

I was not in the mood for a sentimental movie that evening almost 50 years ago but went to the theater anyway. About 10 seconds into the movie I was so drawn into the story, watched this masterpiece over 30 times . My macho buddies mocked me until I managed to drag each of them to the theater and they too became loyal fans. A timeless classic. I had the hood fortune years later to meet Julie Andrew's by chance at Kennedy Airport. She could not have been nicer a few words and a smile from her and I just about melted into the floor. God bless the lady and all the folks who created that beautiful work of art.

I Saw this movie in the Cinema when I was 6 years of age in Victoria BC. I turned to my mother at the beginning of the movie when the plane flys over the Incredibly green valley and told her that I would be going to Austria. 10 years later I went to Austin with our High School Band and Choir and 35 years after that I took the High School Band and choir I was conducting to Austria, and again in 2017 we competed in the Summa Cum Laude festival in Vienna and came in 1st in 2017. It was all so magical and I would do it again. It is true when we say somethings are truly meant to be. I miss those students everyone of them including the ones that were not able to come on those two very special trips.

I, too, went to Salzburg, Austria, with my HS band in 1979. I was part of the large ensemble, but not the smaller, more elite group or jazz band. I still enjoyed the trip even y houghI only got to play twice the whoe time. We also went to Venice. Italy and Yugoslavia as part of the trip.
