7News has been covering the ongoing police shortage in Fairfax County as the county has seen increases in some crimes since 2020.
In 2022, 7News was the first to report that the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) internally announced a staffing emergency. That meant officers had to work more hours because of the police shortage and new start and end times.
The staffing emergency that was announced in 2022 is still in effect.
