Some time ago, Erik Cortina challenged me to start shooting F-Class. I’m finally starting my F-Class build, a 7mm PRCW. In this video, we cover the new Woox Titano chassis, the build components, and the barrel chambering!

What would that look like? Custom work costs custom money. If you can't save up for that, buy a Savage Axis, or Ruger American and stick it in an aftermarket stock.

@@michaelbrown343 there are cheaper components. Gavins build usually use top of the line components with most builds ending up being at least like $6k. There are components available to make a way less expensive rifle, so it'd be interesting to see what he would be able to come up with as a less expensive custom build.

Shoot a 156gr Berger out of the 6.5prc…. Pretty close!
@marcmoore4115
@marcmoore4115 9 ай бұрын
@@jaymiller393 it might be close, but it's not the same by a decent margin. The 6.5mm bullets top out at a G7 BC of .356 in the 153.5gr Berger. .355 in the Hornady A-Tip and the 156gr has .347. In 7mm you're topping out at .422 in the 190gr A-Tip, .391 in the 180gr ELD-M and and .387 in the 195gr Berger. While for the every-man, the 6.5 PRC is good enough, the 7 PRCW is still a very cool and unique option capable of more than the 6.5.

Instead of standard 60 deg inserts, I use full form thread inserts that cut the specific thread pitch. While you need more inserts (different insert for each thread pitch), these full-form inserts cut the full thread profile including the peak and root radius. I can leave the OD a couple thou oversize and turn with the full-form insert to size. I get better looking and fitting threads and I don’t need to set the compound to 29 deg. You’re absolutely correct that you must check thread pitch and be careful doing it. I cut 23 tpi instead of 24, and didn’t realize it until the brake was almost about to screw on……….and then didn’t.

@@Ultimatereloader I sent your form in. I shoot a savage model 11 with a .260 Remington barrel from E Arthur Brown. As I develop my load, I want to custom throat the barrel so I can push the bullet to a much larger OAL. Yes, this will force me to go from a short action rifle to a long action to still run a magazine. Look at how far a 140 gr bullet sticks out of a 6.5X55 Swede. Kind of what I’m trying to do here.

The reason is the availability of 6.5prc cases made by Lapua, if the 7saum case was offered by Lapua, the 7saum would most likely dominate F open class. Same reason for the .284 brass made by Lapua, they are many different versions of the .284 winchester, .284GAP, Shehane, etc... if there were only .284 cases made by winchester, it wouldn't have been as populsr as it is. Consistently is the reason.

F Class rifles are normally single shots and magazines are typically not allowed. This stock is a 700 BDL style to be used with a magazine. Even though it is a very, very, VERY nice stock, I think a traditional F Class stock would have been more appropriate. Great video!

We do a lot of things very similar but I do have a couple questions if you don’t mind. With your set true chuck does your barrel extension show you were your barrel run out is and at what position do you find it best to click your run out. Myself I use 12 and or 6. Not real sure through my own testing it makes much difference but I do set mind at 12 or 6 Also with your set true, I noticed that you have a lot of chuck jaw contact. How does that play out if your chucked up on a taper? Reason I’m asking is that I am interested in adding the machine you have to my shop. I have made barrel extension in the past for my big grizzly 1640 Gunsmithing machine but I never felt I had the rigidness I wanted while using them. Great video!

Threads should not be used to maintain concentricity or alignment. You'll likely find that serious competitive shooters have modified their receivers or use models that don't rely on threads for accuracy. It's a fairly simple modification to cut a registration step into a receiver and add a companion section to a barrel.
