I think what Austin has or puts into his vocals is emotion, he doesn't sing a song, he performs a song! His song "I'm not supposed to love you anymore" brings me to tears every time I hear it.

Don't judge him from one song. He has a great voice and personality and fits in wonderfully with Home Free. Always has.

Exactly, Austin is a true tenor, very powerful, bright, frontal voice. Adam's voice seems a little darker, meaning his voice sounds like it resonates more in his chest. The HF blend most of us are used to is going to change a lot, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, just different.

You're right, they originally made it sound like Austin would be with the group until much closer to the end of the year. This "new" Adam was with Home Free briefly when they were just getting started, before the Sing Off days.

Austin was supposed to leave in fall then got bumped up to July then all of a sudden on very short notice Bastien did his first concert with Home Free at the Country Rumble Fest in Lima,Ohio June 21 and The Grand Ol Opry June 22 and he did amazing . Home Free released a video called Bastien’s First Weekend on KZfaq The Adam’s they opted to be called by last names. They are releasing today the first of the last 3 videos with Austin in them called Your Man.

There is a video or two online where you can hear the blend and it will be VERY WELL with Bastien. Bass-teen. He sang so very well at The Grand Ole Opry. Standing ovation for their last song. He is a seasoned professional singer. He will bring new energy the group. Already is doing so. The Home Fries seem to be loving him and quite welcoming to him and his husband, Gerome Bell to the Home Free family. He has sung for and with home Free back during Sing Off days.

I think when Austin did his video about leaving he said he was willing to stay until fall if needed. He mainly wanted done before the Christmas tour.

Austin wasn't supposed to leave until fall, but life happens and he left sooner. The Adams will go by their last names now. Rupp, Chance and Bastien (pronounced Bass teen). 😊

Chance's Last name is actually Ray. But the name he uses in HF is Adam Chance, first and middle.

Austin had to start radiation treatments for his pit bull Titus last week in Chatanooga. This might explain the abrupt handoff of the microphone. I heard the new sound on the Grand Old Opry. He does not sound like Austin, but he rocked Delta Dawn. There is a HF video out now about Bastien's first shows with the group.

Bastien is technically a former Home Free member. Over the 20+ years that Home Free has been around, there have been many different members (Matt, Bastien, Elliot etc) If you look at their Wiki page, you can see that as lives changed, members would come and go, especially early on when they traveled A LOT! (One former member went on to college to be a lawyer in fact.) When Home Free got on the Sing Off, they still had tour dates they had to fulfill so...from the past members, the put together what I guess you could call a "B Team" to fulfill the obligations. Bastien was part of that group. I think he will be just fine with the guys. He definitely has the pipes!

I missed you last week, so sorry about your car. I am so glad you reacted to 7th Ave. They are great. I think Adam will fit in nicely with the guys. They realeased a video yesterday of Bastien's first weekend, it shows how well they get along with each other. I wish more reactors would do more of Chris Rupp and 7th Ave. Thanks

Tristin is the dark-haired lady. Adam is the only Rupp sibling with blond hair (it used to be really, really blond when he was a kid and has slowly darkened as he's gotten older). Bastien was Home Free's high tenor off and on before Austin joined. There are a couple videos floating around with him in Home Free way way back in the day. So when Chris formed 7th Ave with his sister, Bastien was an obvious choice. Adam R, Rob, and Tim had worked with him before. I think Chance was the only one who hadn't, but obviously they knew each other. In a video posted a couple weeks ago, Austin said Bastien is the most present person he's ever met -- that if you're talking with him, he is paying attention completely. If you go back and watch the video of Home Free's interview with a radio station, you'll see Bastien is there, so he's been hanging out for a while with them, learning the ropes. He's an experienced professional. He and husband, Jerome, competed as OneUp Duo in The Voice. They've recently changed the group name to Bell Bastien. There's a 7th Ave video they did for Pride a few years ago, a cover of Toxic, where you can really hear Bastien's upper range, and see how handsome Jerome is!

@@musikbyjh I've been so excited for Bastien joining because of the diversity angle. As the mom of an (adult) kid who is trans non-binary and pan, the general fandom can feel stifling. So them tapping Bastien is like they opened a window and let some fresh air in.

Adam Bastien sang with Home Free before Austin, so Adam Rupp, Chris Rupp, Rob, and Tim have all worked with Bastien. According to Tim they reached out to Bastien to see if he wanted to come back. He did.

So happy you're reacting to 7th Ave. They deserve some reactions. There's plenty to choose from. Keep them coming. One thing we have to remember through this transition is that Bastien (is pronounced Bass (as the fish) teen (as teenager). Bastien doesn't have the same power as Austin, but then who does?

@musikbyjh Hahaha, I see that I started the sentence to say one thing and ended up just clarifying the pronunciation of Bastien. What I was meaning to continue with was that we have to remember that Bastien is singing parts created specifically for Austin's voice and that all songs with Austin have been arranged with Austin in mind. So when we hear him do songs we're used to hearing Austin sing is, I believe, important to acknowledge the skill and difficulty, and courage, it takes to step into that. It won't sound the same because he's not Austin, and it's as simple with that. It will be and sound different. It doesn't mean worse or better, just different.

They've got 3 videos with Austin, including one dropping today, that they'll probably put out before the video with Bastien. I'm guessing August. But you never know. They might decide to drop it earlier so people can see Bastien.

Discussing upcoming videos in one of the Discords, and it was pointed out that while the upcoming videos obviously have Austin's voice, they haven't actually said Austin is in the video. I just assumed that. He probably will be, but I wanted to make clear that's not been said.

I'm sorry about the problems you've had recently. I hope they are resolved soon. Adam the Third is called by his last name (it's pronounced Basteen) as are all Adams now. He doesn't sound like Austin, which is a good thing as far as I am concerned as I try not to compare anyone in the group. They've released a BTS of their first two shows with the new lineup and included a snippet of Delta Dawn at the end (mostly Bastien's part with background harmonies from the rest). Worth a listen/reacting to. From what I could tell he'll fit right into the group. Both vocally and personality-wise. On Friday, they've released Your Man with Austin and I think there will be at least one more, if not two, before they are releasing the first one with Bastien.

Bastien has been in Home Free before many years ago, so the guys are familiar and harmonize great together. I think things will go well. I agree with you, from the clips I've heard from their concerts, adam3 and rob are very similar and it sounds not as full of a sound. It almost sounds like one of the harmonies is missing. It could have been an issue with the mix....but it really didn't sound as full. He has great chops though.

Welcome Back! That was a lot of fun. Who doesn't love this song by Kenny Loggins. They all did a great job. Nice to hear Adam's voice. I think he will fit in well with Home Free. It will just take time getting used to him because a lot of us will compare him to Austin.

Good one guys. I thought Oct also as they said fall. I guess they’re moving right along since the new “Adam” was found. I think he’s going to go by Bastien, his last name. I think we should just call Rupp, Adam. Then call Chance, Chance and this new Adam, AB. But he’s going by his last name so that will be a bit different. He has a good voice but it will be different. I'm so sorry that in your new location one of the first things to happen was having your car vandalized. It's said that bad things come in threes so perhaps you've filled your quota now.🙏🙏 Life happens, sh*t happens - take care of business first, we'll still be waiting. There's a video out now of Adam Bastien singing with HF at the Grand Ole Opry. Although I'm sure he's a great addition to HF, Austin has a piercing quality to his voice and a vivacious personality that I'm gonna miss.

Yes, Tristin Rupp is the one in the red top. Aside from singing, she's an actress. @@ghstdnsr Dang, you're right. I went to the original vid and watched it full size. She's in white. I don't know about any wig, though. That's embarrassing. I used to know her personally, when she was an Indie actress in Minneapolis. And I still made that mistake. My bad. In fairness, the other lady does look a lot like her.

As suggested, definitely check out Jimmy's 6-min video of Bastien's first appearances with HF in Lima, OH and The Grand ole Opry. Agree that B may sound similar to Rob, but haven't heard Rob get as high as B. He's got power, IMO (despite having a case of nerves and cotton mouth). The guy has silly sense of humor so will fit right in plus he's comparable height which is a 'thing' for me. So far, from the little we've seen and heard, he's ticking all the boxes for this HF fan. I'm not one to embrace change, was bummed with Austin's announcement of departing, but actually excited about the addition of Bastien. He also comes across as extremely humble and gentle-spirited. 😊

7th Ave was a really great group. The new Adam is going by his last name too. Which is of course is Bastien. You should check out some more 7th Ave. Bastien has sung with Home Free in the past. Rob is actually the lower tenor in the group. Jillian Austin was supposed to be leaving in the fall before the Christmas Tour. Their is some things out with Bastien singing for the Tour. Tristan was the girl with the braids and cowboy boots. I really enjoyed watching your reaction to this song.

When Chris left and we got Chance - it took a while to learn who Chance is (plus he is a quieter personality). I think we will be the same with Adam3. (except Adam3 maybe another extrovert)

Austin just has a different voice. That's one reason he's going to do well with his own music. Adam is a good singer and has great energy, but has his own sound. It'll be interesting to hear if he develops more character to his voice, and how they shift things around in the arrangements. I'm happy he fits in well.

If you want to get to know Bastien, watch his Voice performances. As far as where Home Free's power will come from, they are all capable of giving power but never had to do it much because they had Austin. Bastien has more power than this arrangement showed, not as much as Austin (but few do). The thing you are going to find in this new Home Free is a clearer sound (because Austin's Georgia accent would come out in certain songs) and I also believe they are going to take more chances. What I mean by that is you are going to see all members do more runs and ad-libs instead of leaving 80-85% of that stuff to Austin.

This is true because we can't clone people and each set of pipes produces a different sound. Austin is an awesome singer and a BIG part of the appeal to his voice is the sweet southern drawl. Bastien has the technical ability and warm personality to do a great job in the group. All of Home Free have said they work periodically with voice coaches. Their voices have become more full and rich over the years of singing together. Austin has sung so many of these songs hundreds and hundreds of times with the guys. Let's give Bastien major props for just now stepping in and doing so VERY well at this beginning stage. He will only improve as arrangements are written for his parts.

I’m so glad you checked out 7th Ave. Bastien sounded great with the boys. You are right, it’s going to take time for B and Rob to find their harmony groove due to their voice tones. But they will get it. On the Opry, They had B sing the girls part of Delta Dawn. 🤭. Changed the song a lot, but it was still great. Nothing stays the same but change…. Now! So you’ve seen Tristin the other Rupp. Wowzer! That girl can sing! Another great 7th Ave is their cover of Black Velvet, and she nails her portion. Cool part about 7th Ave is they are only a Capella when they want to be, and all of them are killer dancers. I can see why Chris Rupp wanted to move on from HF after they became known as a Country focused Group. Their earlier stuff has more jazz and pop.

Rob has much more gravel and growl in his voice than Bastien. The range was similar to Rob's because of the song/arrangement.

I think to be fair we shouldn't be expecting the new guy to sound anything like Austin. Austin's voice just had a very smooth voice with an amazing range. In the end I think it would be fair for us to just give him a fair chance and also believe that the rest of the guys wouldn't have brought him in of he wasn't capable of doing things right.

I'm a bit late in responding due to a busy few weeks. But I can understand when it is said that Bastien comes closer to Rob in terms of voice, I think so too. But both can do so much more. I think Rob is certainly someone who can do everything, from tenor to baritone, from opera to soul, from soft to rock, etc. (Adam) Bastien, who I followed in 7th Ave, I have also heard do all kinds of things. He has great runs and can also go quite high. I just think that Bastien joins Home Free because Austin leaves the group, but is not Austin's replacement😉. It might sound the same at certain times, but otherwise it just brings a new sound to Home Free. Just like Chance brought when Chris left the group. I'm curious whether Bastien will bring more dance movements to Home Free, which he is good at, as you see at 7th Ave. Chris and sister Tristin are not only good singers, but also good dancers.❤

Bass-teen is how you pronounce his name. They have said that they will be "Rupp", "Chance", and "Bastien", but I will find it hard to call Adam "Rupp". Bastien was part of HF from time to time in the early days, so he was familiar to the group even before 7th Ave. You may have seen, by now, the footage from the first weekend of shows, and have seen how well he fits into the space Austin occupied. Not juts vocally, but energetically - which was a concern of mine.

I'm pretty sure the blonde is Kelley Jakle and Tristin is in the red shirt. I haven't seen this video before. There are two videos I love by this group that I'd love to see you react to. Their Uptown Funk is really fun to watch. The other video seems to be shunned by all of the reactors I've requested this from. Their video for the mashup I Kissed a Girl in the House of the Rising Sun can be considered kind of racy so I understand. Don't have to like it though. You might want to check out videos by OneUp, aka OneUpDuo. That's Bastien (or Bell-Bastien) pairing with is husband Jerome Bell. They sound terrific, and I'm adding them to my playlist ASAP.

Happy Home FrYday! We missed you last week, but sometimes the ugliness of life intrudes. Hugs. It will take some getting used to no Austin. He has such an oversized voice presence, with a huge toolbox of vocal tricks. I'm trying to be open-minded about the change and Bastien. (OK, I'll admit I hate change!) I listened to the oprey performance and he sounded great with featured stuff, but I thought the harmonies sounded a little strange because him and Rob had such a similar tone. He also got no time to practice at all and got chucked in there so I want to give it a chance. I am concerned a little tbough.

I have to be honest with you and say that I’m not really impressed by him. He does great with the harmonies but he has a voice that you don’t want to much of. I’m sorry if no one else agrees on this. But. Jmo. They will never replace Austin. He had a great warmth to his voice. And Bastians is very shrill. Please don’t hate me for this. But I don’t think Austin is going to get as much attention for his voice as he did. It’s all about the harmony. I’m sorry about your bad luck J&J Y’all are loved 🥰 though. ❤
