Back in December 2019, I had the privilege of being one of the first channels on KZfaq to review the then brand new MG HS 1.5 Exclusive Manual, courtesy of Summit Garage in Dudley:
Tweed Jacket Reviews: 2020 MG HS 1.5 Exclusive Manual - • Tweed Jacket Reviews: ...
After having tested a 2021 MG HS Plug-In Hybrid Exclusive back in September, I had wanted to get hold of one of these for longer than the two or three hours we had in 2019 in order to see what it was like to live with one for a week (especially as these are £8,000 Cheaper than the Plug-In Hybrid version), and so earlier this month, courtesy of MG Motor UK, I covered 500 miles to do just that! In this first part, we have a montage with some familiar music, use a supermarket car park for filming, ramble on far too much (no surprise there) and try not to show an address on camera. Nothing untoward, then!

How rude of people leaving disparaging comments! My mother always said "If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all!" You're reviews have always been very very good! I like your reviews of vehicles since certain models are not or were not available in the US market.

I'm curious to know which vehicle is similar to this? Would this be similar to a Vauxhall Mokka?
@lloydvehicleconsulting

Sadly, it is just a fact of KZfaq life that some people will leave such comments. That is what the "Remove" button in the KZfaq Studio is for! This is bigger than a Mokka, it's probably more similar to the Ford Kuga, sold in America as the Escape.

Such an insightful and valuable review and explanation of the MG HS. I like your easy going presentation style and the way you are thorough, without being boring. Thanks so much for taking the time to do this. I really appreciate it and it's inspired me to test drive one very soon! Drive safely! :)

Great first part to the video, I would have thought MG would have resolved the Audio coming on every time you switch on the ignition. Really like the colour of this MG and with the panoramic roof makes it look really airey.
@lloydvehicleconsulting

There is apparently a way to do it, but it is not immediately obvious. Same with all MG's current range, unfortunately. The Brixton Blue is rather nice, as is the panoramic sunroof.

Funky looking pair of front seats and colour. Also, was that a Volkswagen Audi Group coolant reservoir under the bonnet.

Got my new mg hs auto early summer comes standard auto cruise and traffic jam assist never had a problem with radiokeep coming on just press the left hand button centre consul never comes again till you turn volume button up brilliant car wouldn't swop it for anything but you do get more on auto version
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the automatic version does come with considerably more equipment, which is why I have requested to have one to test for a week in 2022. The radio has done this to me in every new MG I have tested in the last six months, so it's definitely not an isolated criticism of this model. You are right, though, you can turn the infotainment system completely off so it doesn't do it, but if you want the screen on, you have to get very familiar with the mute button. My 2014 MG3 also had the same issue when we owned it.

Here's the solution to your MG Infotainment loud radio volume woes... I found it in the PDF copy of the Owner's Manual I downloaded from the MG Motor UK website a while ago: In the section labelled 'Air Conditioning and Audio Systems', mention is made of how to turn on the 'Standby Mode' - here is the procedure: 'Standby Mode' With the START/STOP switch on, long press the HOME button to allow the Infotainment system to enter the Standby mode, the operation of the Infotainment system may be suspended. (The clock / date will now be displayed.) In Standby mode, all sounds will be muted. To cancel the Standby mode, short press the HOME button. The following operations can also cancel the Standby mode: • The system automatically switches to the parking image during parking / reversing. • Turn off the START/STOP switch, the system shuts down directly.

It's unnecessarily complicated for what should be a relatively simple process, isn't it?
@ivan747100
@ivan747100 2 жыл бұрын
Indeed it is - but that seems to be the norm for vehicle infotainment systems nowadays - needless complication and a multitude of confusing sub-menus to navigate through for basic functions, where simplicity & ease of use (pressing a physical button or turning a rotary dial using muscle memory, without having to take your eyes off the road) has been entirely overlooked as a design, ergonomic or safety consideration.

The one thing that gets me on these KZfaq car reviews.when you are driving and talking ,why is the camera looking at you?. Thanks 😊

It's a practice as old as the hills, Top Gear did it themselves back in the 1980s and 1990s. I think that it is supposed to be psychologically more engaging looking at someone's talking and driving the car rather than just the scenery passing by if the camera was the other way around.

@@lloydvehicleconsulting ours is a motabilty car and we get 25 miles for £10 around town. Cancelled the lease and it’s going back in March. The ride is unsettled unless you are in a straight line and the plastic seats smell after a while. Horrible cars
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 7 ай бұрын
@@enchantress7940 , it's a very popular car on Motability. If is an automatic, then the fuel economy will be even worse. It's one of the only cars I have driven which I could actually feel pitching (rocking back and forth) on faster roads with bumps. The smaller ZS is actually much better in this respect. I tested one the next week after this manual HS. The ride and handling are superior, it is far more economical, the interior space is very impressive, it is easier to park, and it costs much less.
