I had a 2014. I put it in B and drove carefully. Got 60 mpg according to the display. It's important how you drive it. When I bought it (4 years old) the display read 31 mpg so I guess the previous owner was flooring it all the time. Otherwise very reliable and comfortable car. Never gave the slightest trouble.

Several similarities with my Honda….being 2019, but not a hybrid or turbo. Currently averaging 56.8mpg E10 petrol. This period of time is not quite new or current for tech…..as in the video. My one has full android auto, but iPhone only gets Bluetooth linking. Also be aware around that time U.K. started using a revised version of DAB, called DAB+, for a few stations. That list has since grown and radio stations using the “+” format will not work on earlier DAB (non +) radios…..on any modern car this is an integrated multipurpose system…..and if you want to upgrade it (if it’s possible) it’s going to cost mega money.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 17 сағат бұрын
Yes, this is amongst the last of the E180 Auris models, we don't have the latest generation of Toyota's infotainment system yet. The whole DAB/DAB+ thing is really quite confusing. We found out that one of my mother's radios was not DAB+ compatible, despite being a normal DAB one. We just had to switch her back to FM...

@@lloydvehicleconsultingswitching back to fm…. In some parts of U.K. there aren’t many fm or useable am stations Where I am we get bbc radio 1-4 + local bbc wilts on fm along with a couple of commercial stations, and that’s it….on a portable radio. AM isn’t useable. So digital DAB/DAB+ is essential for extra choice, along with mobile internet.

Well after reading some very amusing comments I have to say, my dad wasn’t a tool maker but did have an earlier more “interesting” version of this car. I think it was the Victor 101 super? 1.6 hydraulic tappets I believe. It was a “4 on the floor” NEW gearbox option….i remember the little handbook saying it was also available with a more “traditional” 3 speed column change….possibly a 2 speed auto as well? It had the bench seat in the front….tho I believe 2 seat separate seats options was also available. It had silver dashboard with horizontal speedometer. It also had the same sort of bmw style gas pedal, a hood pull, and a “brights” (high beam) button on the floor. It wasn’t especially quick at accelerating, but once it got upto speed it maintained it surprisingly well…eg going up hills was usually perfectly fine in top gear (4th). Prob worth a fortune now, but at the time, it was fairly unreliable, rusted, and soon looked out of date due to its 1960s styling (tho tame compared with earlier Vauxhalls).
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 17 сағат бұрын
Yes, the 101 (or FC) Victor was available as a Super model. It didn't have the slant four like this one, though, it used an earlier engine. They were indeed available with bench seats and/or a three speed column shift, although the floor change four speed and the separate front seats would my preference. Can't remember which automatic gearbox the 101s had now, but it was definitely offered with one. The track on a FC is hilariously narrow...

My sister in law has one of these, but an estate, sorry Touring Sport. Finished in what I imagine Toyota have given an exotic name but is best described as an entirely appropriate brown. We borrowed it for a weekend a couple of years ago and I thought the economy was terrible but it turns out it has a very small fuel tank. Despite being a distinctly unsporty Touring Sport it did manage to get my stepdaughter to the zip line place mere minutes before it closed therefore completing its mission successfully. I remember these-just. The earlier version was very 1980s square I think. Very odd to see a boot or trunk on such a small car…but it wasn’t the only example. Our own Vauxhall Nova was offered in saloon version….i remember seeing a few of them years ago…never as popular as the hatchback tho. First of the rover metro with the 1.1 engine had a carburetor + CAT…..just for a couple of years before adopting injection. This forgotten, odd ball little car went up against the likes of the Ford fiesta. Prob should have ignored the crowd and bought the Mazda in hindsight. My uncle used to have an early 80s pre-facelift 323 1.3 5spd manual. Not inspiring and not especially quick compared with other 1.3s of that era, but it was nearly 100% reliable. The only issue they repeatedly had was the strange vacuum assist brakes-was fine on the front but the brake power to the back was always below spec-which always caused issues on the MOT….because they couldn’t figure out how to make it much better. Would be interesting to see one of those on review.

Yes, I drove a Nova Saloon in 2022 on Sensible Secondhand Classics. I do like the older Mazdas, they tended to be very well made, but just like a lot of modern Mazdas these days, they suffered quite badly from rust. A lot of early 1990s cars did not adopt fuel injection immediately.

Instead of fixing the issues with FD that just made a car that was too big for the market, there was a huge gap between the Viva and the FD. The seats would collapse, they would rust like billy-o and they were an object of intense desire to my local recidivists. Despite this the love remains strong and an early chrome bumper like this is very much on the dream garage list, a 323i would be perfect.
